  1. Too still and bright for the still hunt. Have to call it quits in a bit. Found an old rub line sandwiched between two one-upon-a-time tree stands. 0 deer seen. Breeze is inconsistent, so who knows what’s picked me off without me seeing... All in all, a beautiful afternoon in the woods here in 4J. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  2. Still hunting 4J, until I find something better to redirect my efforts. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  3. Ha! I was super surprised to see you leave after sitting in the stand for a bit, and come BACK AGAIN WITH camo on!
  4. Just heard the metal clanking. He’s setting up a stand. Yep. There he is, in a tree. Ha... gotta love public land hunting. Dude... if you’re on this forum, could ya throw a camo top over yourself next time you hang a stand on opening day? That’d be helpful to your fellow hunters. Other than that, good luck, and be safe in that stand, man. I’m giving it another hour and a half hoping those doe really, really like these acorns. Hope my buddy here is out before then. 5. Man... something turned them around. Tough hunting out here. Fella in the t-short is still hanging out by him camera. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  6. And the doe came back, as I’d hoped, off to my right. Darn... hope they don’t see this guy. 500 yards between them, and a little roll of a Hill. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk

  8. Fella off to my left about 200 yards checked his trail cam in blue jeans and a white t-shirt. Stood there for a good long while. You on this forum, buddy? See anything good on ya pics? Oh... here he comes again. Dude, come on. It’s opening day. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  9. Set up on an oak flat pinch point between some houses and a road. Hoping to catch some afternoon browsers, or see something unusual. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  10. 4J - Pine Bush. Put a 45 min stalk on two doe. Had planned to use the climber. Got within 60, and even got the climber off my back, and no one noticed. Moved my foot... nope, that’s three doe. She watched me for a few mins, and decided she didn’t like the scene. She ran off taking the other two with her. Well, these three know it’s that time of year now. Time to put the climber back on... 11. That’s the DIY fella that’s currently out w/ The Hunting Public crew. Spot on, on his quality. A couple of his videos provided some great ideas on how to “trick out” my climber. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  12. Agreed on The Hunting Public. I think they're paired up with the DIY Hunter right now, and that fella's reviews of tactics and gear is detailed and useful. That 45 min video of the ghillie suit stalk was pretty exciting. Watching (Zac, I think) run towards the camera after a two hour crawl was joy coming right through the screen.
  13. All I've ever pulled are preference points and a 4J. Ha. I'd love a 4K, 4H, or 4L, if you're not going to use it. I'd be happy to help out with a 4J harvest, too, if you have doe you'd like to be rid of...
  14. Unsure if anyone's been posting on this topic lately, but up here in 4L, it looks to have been an early hard mast drop. Tons of acorns on the ground, and I have yet to find a beech tree that's holding. I've had limited scouting this year, but some staple spots look to be fairly well spent already. Anyone noticing similar/different situations in their area?
  15. I'm in. This will be fun... Thanks very much for putting it on!
  16. During the second week of February, I sawed off the top 1/4 of the limbs, and cut off a majority of the suckers. I didn't spray anything, but did buy all of Grow's recommendations at Agway. Looks like I'll have apples come Fall. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  17. Saw your note too late to check the DOB. Upon the first sip, I noted that it was pretty tasty. Each subsequent sip got better. I was amazed when I realized that the last few sips were the best tasting. That was a different kind of experience... I only had one, so I'll need lots of further testing to justify the experience... Glad you (and many others on here) stirred my curiosity on this one!
  18. Finally. My first. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  19. Ahhh... I remember my first trail cam like it was yesterday. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  20. There are many ways to the top of the mountain. Beware the one running around the middle yelling, "you're on the wrong trail!" I don't remember where I heard that, but it comes to mind more and more as I age.
  21. Each time I discover how not to hunt, I learn a bit more about how to hunt. My mistakes have been my hardest and most valuable teacher. Having no family experience nor exposure to draw on, I've been very fortunate to have had the time to read up on deer hunting, and the opportunity to walk many miles of public land, once royally screwing up another fella's hunt. I will never forget that day, nor that lesson. He was sitting for the culmination of his scouting. I had found the spot by mistake a week before, thought it looked good, and hoped to get lucky. It was my fifth day in the deer woods. He got pissed and stormed out, only to stalk in his truck and honk the horn on occasion. In addition to other things, I learned to not be like that. The overwhelming positive experiences of being in the deer woods, however, led me to a deeper exploration of the effort, as well as to here (and other places). My fortune increased with the knowledge shared and especially the time spent with and encouraging me. Although I've only been hunting for four seasons, three with bow, I think I've learned enough to know I'll never learn enough. I consider myself lucky to be able to hunt and provide organic food for my family and friends. I am indebted to all the help, the shared knowledge, and all the mistakes. I hope to be able to share what I've learned and to continue to learn for a long time to come. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  22. I ended up buying another cord to add to the wood I felled, bucked and split, which put me at around 4-5 cords for the year. I've burned a quarter of the new cord. I have a bunch of trees I dropped in January, but the snow pack from February and March prevented me from working on them. Tomorrow is day one, in what I expect to be a busy next few months for splitting. I'd like for the house to be more efficient, so I think more insulation in the crawl space is a good idea for a spring or early fall rainy day project. I'm all thumbs when using Tapatalk
  23. I think some of the offenses listed are low-bar, despite the branding behind the name.
