Right from the link: 1) A pilot of the re-certification process will begin in January of 2015. 2) The Pilot Counties will be Albany, Schenectady and Fulton. 3) 500 invitations to re-certify will be sent out to each of the pilot counties. I guess my question would be has anyone from the three counties listed for the PILOT programed been contacted to go through the process??

Hunter9396 Just a little info...Hunting snowshoes with dogs is not like hunting cottontails. The snowshoes typically run A LOT farther. They will take a dog(s) out of hearing and make you wonder if they are running deer. (Tracking Collars will help) The more guys you have the merrier. When the dogs jump them position shooters on their runs and you stand a chance of getting one. If you don't get them the first time be prepared to wait for them to come back. I have run one snowshoe as long as 4hrs and never got it. They usually don't hole and will keep going til you either shoot it or call the dogs off. If there is snow on the ground they are hard to spot so everyone has to be alert. Good time and a good workout for the dogs. Good Luck!

Obama executive order a go.....
Steve D replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
MRJvp You are correct that a good percentage actually voted for Cuomo. The point I was trying to make was a very high percentage of gun owners did not vote. I don't have the numbers but the election had the lowest voter turnout ever and if the gun owners would have stepped up and voted the safe act would probably be history. Just trying to get the point across that if we don't stand up and do our part no one will step up for us. We gun owners have the voting power and are over due to use it! -
LED Lights for trailer?
Steve D replied to dirt_a_KISS's topic in ATV's , UTV's, Dirtbikes & Snowmobiles
I have had a pair of rectangular l e d s from Harbor Freight on my utility trailer for about five years with no problems. Super bright and work every time. They are probably the most reasonably priced also. Haven't submerged them. When I had a boat I would always unplug the trailer lights before backing in anyway. If you check I think they do carry some that are submergible. -
Obama executive order a go.....
Steve D replied to growalot's topic in Gun and Hunting Laws and Politics Discussions
We (gun owners) are our own worst enemy. Gun owners do plenty of complaining but few get out & vote. We had a good opportunity in the last Governor election to reverse the safe act if gun owners would have voted. A very low percentage of NY gun owners voted in the last election when it could have made a difference. Voter turnout is low across the country and while it isn't much; it is about the only way things will ever get reversed. Just like taxes...I hear people complaining about higher taxes and when I ask them if they vote the answer is usually "no my vote won't make a difference". Gun owners are a majority in this country and could very easily reverse the trend by voicing their opinions where it matters instead of just doing it on forums. Look what the gay alliance accomplished in the last five years and they are not the vast majority. If you don't vote and don't stand up for your own rights then don't bitch! -

Welcome...sounds like you like to do as much as me or more. Would like to try a HTX hunt sometime but haven't made one yet. Don't run the night hunts much anymore. Got tired of all the bs but the HTX hunts sound like something that would be enjoyable. Enjoy the forum.

When they first opened rifle in the southern tier I hunted with a 30-06 and shot two deer with it. Both were hit good through the front shoulders and bled like stuck pigs. Both ran 75+yards even though they were hit hard. After that I started using the .223 with the Hornady 60 grain V-max. I have shot 5 deer with them and none of them went over 20 yds. The longest shots were 125 & 230 yards. Two of the five I have shot with it have dropped in their tracks. The disadvantage to the V-max is if they hit anything on the way (golden rod, tree branch, etc.) they disintegrate. When they hit a deer they do the same thing and cause severe internal damage. Like crisw says there is hardly ever an exit hole and they don't leave a blood trail but if they drop where you shot them or close by you really don't need a blood trail. The other thing I like about the v-max is you don't have to worry about them traveling a long distance in case of a miss. They will more than likely hit something and disintegrate. I shoot them out of a Browning A-bolt which is a tack driver. Haven't lost one yet and haven't had to look for them like I did with the 30-06.

Excellent Job on her part.

I would like to welcome you by saying Brooklyn is not New York. If you get out of Brooklyn and get a chance to explore you will see what I mean. It is a beautiful state to live in and has a lot to offer the outdoorsman or "outdoors woman" (being politically correct) but our rules, regulations, and taxes suck!! There is a predator hunter behind every bush and tree so they won't be hard to find. Welcome aboard and enjoy what you can.

I will be joining you. Worst deer season I have had in many, many, years. First time skunked in nine years.

Looks exactly like the one I let go during bow season Only had one side (the right side)....Saw him on 11/4 & 11/20. Hard to believe he would have made it to the end of the season but who knows. I live & hunt in 8h. Sure wish now I would have taken him when he stood there 10 yds. from my stand. Probably not the same buck but who knows! Congratulations!

Jason Might want to look into the DR. I had a swisher mower and I spent more time working/repairing it than mowing. They are nice when they work but usually don't work for long. The trail mower may be better but I would look at close before buying!! http://ithaca.craigslist.org/grd/5297437200.html

Advice for calling coyotes needed!
Steve D replied to grampy's topic in Small Game and Predator Hunting
Baiting will work....just make sure you are able to set-up down of the bait. Might want to set up a camera to get some idea of when they are hitting the bait. More than likely it will be during night. -
