Dogs do work, but the problem with dogs is yots can travel some good distance, and most likly you will be getting on other peoples property. There are quite a few people out there that won't appriciate that. Because there is a seson on them I would check to see if bait piles "baiting" is legal or not. I know there only coyotes but I would still want to follow the law.

In a way I allways put the presure back on the deer I just killed. I say to it, sometimes out load...why did you have to walk this way, if you would have went the other way you wouldn't be laying in fornt of me. In some small way that makes feel better about taking it's life.

I have a FoxPro remote control, not sure of the model. It has speakers on both ends of the unit. They pte load calls at the factory to what you want on it. I have to say I have the most fun with it just calling crows, they show up in big numbers in no time at all. I have not taken a coyote with it yet, maybe 6 times out, but have not used it at night either. Called in a couple of fox just to watch. The remote is great, you can control volume start/stop and change calls at will

Sawtooths,...... I have then going into, I think there 8th year. Growing pretty good but not a nut to be seen. I read somewhere last year that is just too cold in WNY for them, but maybe you'll get lucky. White pines grow fast like the Austrian, but I prefer the White spruce. I planted 100 or so in 8 x 8' 10 years ago and now there 10' high or so and a great home to many a song bird.

I use my dog Red for Deer Search and just this past week started training her to find sheds. We'll see how she does, but flavored planted ones so far are easy finds.

I wear both, when off my property BO hat, on my posted property camo. Hunt only with ML. Only hunt from a stand so I can identiy my surrounding quickly. Only shoot at walking or standing deer. I think it works pretty good this way. In over 40 years of hunting I have to admit I have never been in a "holy crap" what could have just happend here situation. I may agree that BO on state land is not such a bad idea.

My dog (Red) is a mixed breed that has caught on super fast to be my Deer Search dog and my wife and I have talked about a second dog to keep Red company. You know the saying a lone dog is a lonly dog. We'll I read through this thread but can't find who the trouble maker is from the three. Is it Baily starting things or the other two defending home and not wanting a new comer? Baily looks like she has some energy, which were fine with, Red we think may have some greyhound or wippit in he so we know energy. My main concern is the temperment of Baily, Red is a very submissive dog that also came from a shelter / foster home. Let me know, thanks

maybe hunting licenses need to be renewed, either take a course or pass a test every some many years. Poor judgement or lack of knowledge.....

I too never raised the barrel on the ML all season. I know the feelig on state land, it can produce some monsters but also some heavy foot traffic. It took me a few years to get there but I bought my own land where I also live. It' nice to be relaxed and truly enjoying your life

Yes the trees are bare of leaves but loaded with buds which is high value food in winter. I prefer to hinge cut along the top of ridges or ravines on the leaward side of wind travel. Cut the trees 3-4' high and help to lay down. Now the food is there and it will grow very thick, which in turn makes great cover. The tree wil not die. Deer love to lay in heavy cover to there back (wind side) and open where they can see & have a great escape area like a ridge top or ravine.

next year put a fence around a 3-4' circle to keep the deer out. You will be amazed at how much they are chowing down.

you cannot beat the return in hinge cutting, like all said the best thing for all wildlife. I believe it is even preferred over food plots. I end up with more trail pics from hinge cut areas than my food plots, and for a lot less $$ to boot.

Pass, because this is my 38th year deer hunting. The problem with taking him is, now your done. So when you out with a doe tag and a 3.5 year walks through, you get what I mean. My property is posted and respected because I started a QDM with over 20 neighbors. Long story short, it works. This year in Erie county the group took 3 - 3.5 year olds 125+ Great buck and I would guess at 1.5 years

when I used to drive to my hunting grounds I would stay on stand until 10, usually because you would start to get cold. Then we walk back to the car for a sammy then back in the woods until 2pm, when we again meet at the car. back in for the evening hunt. What was nice with 2 breaks is we could discuss what we saw going on, and more important a lot of guys would only break at noon. When they did we were on stand and had a lot of success from 10-2. Now I walk out my back door, so some days I will get a hour after work, and others are a all day thing from a few stands. There is no way I could honestly say I could stay on ONE stand all day without getting cold, maybe this year is an exception with all the warm weather.

I know a guy who shot a coy on opening day of shot gun. It had mange so it left it in the woods. Went back by it 10 dyas later and nothing had touched it, not even crows. Every wild animal must know they are king in the wild.

a couple of years ago I was live trapping in the wifes flower garden, and you could set the trap walk back to the house turn around an bingo, a munk, we didn't count but there were so many I gave up

very interesting. I would say if you needed a town permit to build it, then yes the 500' rule would come into play. If no permit is needed it's going to up to the lawyers I guess. I have a 100year old 8' x 8' ground blind with an old wood stove. It sits 40 yards from my tree stand. If weather allows all day in tree stand, if not, warming up is great, and yes I have taken deer from it, they taste the same

If I had the oppertunity to take a picture that would be cool, would not even consider pulling the trigger. I would not need the cat to prove that I saw it. If there's one maybe there's 2 and it continues to one day they are truly here, then with hunting dates, kidda like the black bear.
