  1. The taxidermist needs to be taking at least 50% down so customers owe less when piece is finished. With life size animals such as bears it's still a bit of money. Id often thought 25% more should come in before the piece was assembled. With a reputable taxidermist that shouldn't be a prob. I never did it though.
  2. I'm seeing headshots a few times n imo it's way too risky unless you rope em first. Before anyone tells me how great they shoot, things happen beyond our control. Deer move, especially their heads, an unseen vine or branch can be hit n cause deflection, tree can sway n most likely is, etc etc. we don't need bad press, first deer pic of a blown off jaw will go viral, it's happened w hunting type things way too often lately. Besides the moral implications we owe it to the game n each other to take the best shot w lowest odds of crippling or injuring
  3. Ok I was supposed to do the classes to teach but after the first night of them I realized I didn't have the required time so I just didn't know. Both courses are international so should cover same items
  4. I'm not a fan of rage. They're prone to problems. And if it's questionable whether they're NY legal, hell in some parts big drinks arent, but why try the head? I've used jackhammers in my compounds for many many years n they don't fail. Started using them after seeing the big holes left in bears coming in my shop. I've yet to hear of one problem w this head n the deer go a very short distance. Whatever you decide best of luck
  5. Some good answers here but so much is gonna depend on angle. If the deer is quartering it may be nearer the back ribs for a bow shot, high on the back if you're above it. Think of the deer as being a barrel w the vitals in between the shoulders or so. You gotta penetrate whatever you need to so you can damage the lungs w bow shots. Guns kill by shock n can be shot differently but still some shots need to be passed w both weapons. Don't they go over this in NY hunter ed? I'm from out of state n we teach it thoroughly. Assumed NY did too?
  6. Good shooting! If you need help w his grip so he doesn't need arm guard let me know. Also the back tension thing. Not criticizing only offering help
  7. Just had a bud make me some strings. He put a loop on for me n paper tuned it, something I normally do myself. He actually put a nock in the normal place n tied the loop around that. Id never seen that but he instructs w me n is coaching a girl that's state champ. Another fellow instructs w us is a past state champ w multiple titles. I think he does same. I normally reset w square n have it marked. Interesting n seems to work w less potential work in the future of that string
  8. Thank you fast Eddie my intent was never to argue whether he believes it or not. We're all brothers n sisters doesn't mean we need to agree on everything n someone who doesn't isn't necessarily the enemy
  9. Well I don't give two hoots who you are or what you do. Gotta be an ass when you assume. You have zero idea as to my intent n obviously arent swift enough to read so if you need to translate this/- I was making the point not to assume as you are the world is wrong if they don't agree w you. I stated to fight for what you believe in, that's your right but it's others right to object. If you can't inderstand that or still wish to disagree I think you're the troll looking to fight. It was never my intent n you certainly can't know more about me than I do.
  10. Moog you got me again, your sights are adjusted to poi. Truthfully though w the faster biws even shooting perfect through paper broadheads in my experience can shoot differently. Older bows seemed to be more on, again only in my experience, not discounting yours
  11. Also by paper tuning you're not stating how far your doing it from or if you're checking dif distances. Moving the rest up should theoretically shoot nock low, being its high n you didn't mention rest type it may be breaking around rest n pushing point up.
  12. Why didn't you just move the pins? If the bow was shooting clean before don't mess w it. Oftentimes even a tuned bow shoots slightly off w broadheads because of the heads characteristics. Retune n sight in w broadheads. Moving your rest will affect how arrows fly from bow. Don't move the rest once set. Don't move the loop either btw. The sights adjust poi
  13. Try telling it in court. It's illegal. invite a co to come w you?
  14. Mike103 you're an ass. That was not my point. My point was explained clearly. Do what you want n if I don't agree it's my right as it is yours. That's was the reason for post as soon as someone disagrees they're automaticslly a trouble maker. Ridiculous
  15. Best of luck w it! The draw length is adjustable so set it up w your loop n release n let us know how it shoots
  16. Guys lets be clear cause we know not who is reading. The overwhelming number of deer are shot under 20 yards n ego aside most guys cannot make the shot especially excited at 40 yards. Not saying no one can I just feel most for ethical reasons shouldnt. The animal can move, tree can sway, it can just be windy. Yes long range shots are great for practice but most guys taking such shots would be wounding deer. I'm not referring to anyone who posted above, never seen them shoot. Just stating cause imo it's generally a bad idea and shouldn't be spoken about lightly.
  17. I use electronic callers w dekes. It's a lotta fun n pretty much guaranteed shooting
  18. I agree that's why I figured it might seem believable
  19. I knew someone would Google it. Funny. Least no one is arguing on the thread
  20. Shake the tree n see if the nuts rattle
  21. Just point the gun at em n make them walk back to house
  22. Anyone hear bout W Virginia passing a law that requires shooting only male squirrels?
  23. I use an old bolt .22 rimfire n shoot them only on the ground n normally only after deer season
  24. rangefinder is how most folks do it but keep your shots close n its a moot point
