Ok so I finally got it done although it didn't go as smoothly as I would have liked.I have bow hunted for 4 years without releasing an arrow and last night seemed to be following that pattern until about 630. I had been sitting since 4 and had seen nor heard anything not even a squirrel. I was battling misquotes for my sanity when I heard a twig snap of my left hand shoulder, it turned out to be a spike about 25 yards of quartering slightly towards me between two brush piles. There was an open window between the 2 brush piles of about 2 foot I thought plenty of room. At the shot the deer ducked and started to turn he then took off and I thought I had missed I could see my lighted nock arrow stuck in the ground. I heard him crash seconds later. I gave it till dark and waited for the rest of my hunting party to go look. I Got Him! It ended up being a crappy shot I'm not sure if it's all because he moved at the shot or if it was me getting jittery or a combination of both I took him right across the throat and the rage hypedermics did there job. He had only went about 60 yrds. Finally I got one with a bow not a textbook shot but I got it! Feeling stoked!! Not a giant but will always be a memorial deer for me. Not super fussy about what I would take with a bow but I am fussy about the shot I would take I have to be 100 percent confident I will connect. Don't want to try to extend my comfortable range or take any bad angle shots taking the risk of wounding the deer just for a chance to harvest one. I'm the same with gun hunting I have watched many an animal walk away because I didn't like the shot. I am the total opposite of trigger happy. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

Looking for a .308 deer rifle with a wood stock.

Not a real popular option but if you're looking to save a little coin there's the Mossberg Patriot for around $450. I have one in 270 and so far it's been a good gun and is not to hard on the eyes. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk -

To get my first deer with a bow, I have taken quite a few with a gun but have only bow hunted for 4 years and have never let one fly yet, they are always a little farther than I feel comfortable with or I don't like the angle or something. Hopefully that changes this year! Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

My wife is not a hunter but enjoys the venison especially the venison bologna. She understands how much hunting means to me and my son and has never complained about how much I hunt. I always tell her she's lucky I only deer hunt and that the season is only 2 1/2 months long. She enjoys her alone time curling up with a good book. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I generally dress alot lighter than most people I hunt with. I very rarely wear any long johns or any gloves and and usually I just wear a camo cap no tuke. If it's wicked windy I will pull up my hood on my jacket. I especially dress very light on the walk in nothing worse than working up a sweat on your way to your stand. I have never been one to get cold easy but I don't take the heat well. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

I put up three tree stands yesterday after dragging them in about a mile via ice fishing sled. I was soaked with sweat, this heat has got to go! Only 9 days to the opener here in the north. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk
