Nice looking buck. Great job.

Has anyone else noticed the lack of success as of late???
Steve7 replied to Four Season Whitetail's's topic in Bow Hunting
Been warm. It was great late Oct and early Nov. See more deer in my yard at night than in the woods during the day. The boys don't have any interest in the girls right now but that going to change in a few day for sure. just a matter of time before it really goes strong. -
I totally agree with that. The article was written like 15 years ago and with all the modern advances with hunting implements it can be scruntized in many ways. Just posted the thought from the article.

I have to scan the article in and make it a picture.. give me a day

Study says that there is a 50% percent chance that deer which were not recovered by a poor bow shot are more likely to survive than that of a poor placed gun shot. 85% of deer die from poorly placed gun shots. Just make the right call when you draw your bow or pull the trigger. Comparing bow hunters vs gun hunters is ridiculous.

I've seen 6 or 7 true 125's or maybe larger in 30 years of hunting. There is this 8 this year that I saw twice which is a contender for sure. Had him at 70 once this season but never came in to anything (grunt, ratlle, bleat). hoping he makes a mistake for sure.

Pretty nice map F&S put out.... Activity and Rut http://www.fieldandstream.com/rut-report

Joe12...I'm in 3M also. The boys are ready but it did shut down some of them chasing the does. Weekend should be better with cooler temps. Seeing lots of scrapes and rubs too.

NYA has 58 which I agree with for sure.

bushnell... look at the scoresheet... too funny

For what it's worth going off the photo without a tape....

Between 45 and 50. No more than 50 with the inside spread at 12". I do score.

Just got back from one the cameras and had this guy on it right next to my stand. FYI...scraping activity is increasing. Saw 4 today.
-
I'd take him.

I use the Remington Accutip in 165gr, Funny thing though, the last three 8 pointers I shot, the bullet never exited. All were shot perfect just behind the shoulder and the insides were soup with no identifiable organs. absolute devistation. Tracking was 30 yards, 10 yards, and three yards

Jumped a spike yesterday from his bed in thicket. Saw 4 does around 8:15 but it was slow. Wind wasn't right (wrong direction and just too much). Deer VERY jumpy prob due due wind. Today.. moved to seconday stand. ok 4 point with same spike from yesterday. will get better from here.

Make it count. Let's do it !!! Good luck everyone !!!

Tough call with the gun on #1 and #2 without a backstop. I agree with the bow on 1 and 3 though.
-
You call the shots on these photos and conditions with a gun and/or bow. Photo 1 Deer is 45 yards broadside and the wind is blowing toward him. You're below the rise and cannot stand or you will be seen..... Photo 2 Deer is 50 yards slightly quartering toward you...wind is right to left at 10 mph and you're seated with nothing to hide you.... Photo 3 You're busted. Deer is bedded at 20 yards and is staring straight at you ready to bolt.... Photo 4 Deer is facing you looking away at 35 yards. He's watching does to his left and ready to join them. No shot if he clear the big tree to his left....

Lot of deer in 3M. They eat me out of house and home. Welcome and enjoy the site.

1,2 5 mornings. 4,6,7 afternoons. I would defintely scout a lot to focus on the trails they using especially with all those stands. Be especially cautious of the wind and how you approach the stands.

No reading here. I always stay attentive and watch the woods come to life around me. Rather watch a pretty blue jay or cardinal anyday. Will try and get on this site for "report from the field".
