  1. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! As for me... I hunt with my T/C Pro Hunter a lot during regualr gun seasn.. Took 3 deer this year with the muzzle loader barrel on it.. 2 during rifle and one this past Sunday... But back to the question, it should have 2 weekends in it... and cut regular season down...
  2. Well.... Filled a tag with a beautiful 120 pound doe on Sunday... It was the day before my B'Day so I called her my birthday present... Passed up 7 smaller does, had deer all around me from 3:00 on... Had 3 others within 15 yards that I was passing on and more to my right when this do walked up... She stepped up on the flat I was on at 20 yards, as I slowly swung the T/C Pro Hunter over to her I noticed that in the 14 degree temp my breath had frozen on the scope!! Rookie mistake!!! Damn.. So with 3 minutes left of legal shooting light, I cock the T/C, clear the scope enough to see her at 20 yards and touch off the 110 grains of Blackhorn 209 and sent the 250 grain T/C bonded through both her shoulders... She dropped, kicked once and then just rolled down hill, ug... At the shot, the woods exploded with deer, no clue how many were really within sight, could not move with so many that close... I look at my watch and there was 1 minute left of shooting light. It was a really great late season hunt... Sad to see the season end though... No pics, to dark and the up hill drag was looming and damn near killed me by the time I reached the top.. I'm sure you can picture a nice doe though... LOL
  3. If people have to cheat with doe permits, they are just sad... But I see your point...
  4. Don't you think by micro managing though you are inviting problems with either people making "mistakes" by shooting something in one zone that is only ok in another?? Just asking... I was trying to figure out a "simple" plan that might work easier and make less people mad..
  5. Don't you think trying to "micro manage" the state by zones is asking for "issues" either intentionally illegally shooting something not fitting the rules of that area or by accident??? Better to be state wide and work with doe permits to adjust by zone I would think...
  6. The other part to the "poacher" part is, if you know someone doing it, you should be turning them in or you are just "ok'ing" their actions...
  7. Yup... if people arehunting with guns, I wear orange.. period...
  8. Would be nice but I think we are past that in terms of the state and DNR... So if you had to chose, what would you prefer???
  9. Sadly that is probably true.. but we have to rely on the majority of hunters being ethical and law abiding... We have no choice... We also must report abusers of the law as well...
  10. Great job!!! Love the intro.. very cool.....
  11. Very true.. but remember, the permits are issued when the crops are to be harvested and fawens would most likely survive if the doe was taken, so it's the best scenario for the fawns and farmer... but for me... I only shoot does with no fawns.... It's a moral thing in my head.. I can't bring myself to do it...
  12. I filled 1 crop damage permit, my son another and I filled 1 DMAP tag so far this year... Shot a doe with my bow and a 5 pt with my gun. EVERY deer I shoot is processed and eaten weither by my family or a family in need. The farm I hunt has a lot of crop damage on it so the farmers lively hood is helped dramatically by our killing of does. If you need further validation of my shooting let me know.. If you ask any deer biologist they will tell you a buck stays with a doe in estrous for 2-3 days, unlike a turkey with hens, it will not try to breed/chase another doe. While he is with her, other does are coming into estrous as well.. When he finally leaves that first doe, he "may" get to breed one more doe before most or all the other does are out of estrous.. now wait 28 days for them to come back in and repeat the above scenario... After the second estrous any doe bred runs the risk of having her fawns to late in the spring making them to small to survive the following winter...
  13. OK... lots of things here.. LOL... First... more does does not mean more fawns 100%... 1 buck can only breed about 5-6 does a year... so any buck doe ratio higher than that, does are going unbred or having fawns to late in the spring to survive the following year... Second, yes this is another AR post in a way but it is trying to see if people are just jum, ping on AR to try and improve the age of bucks in this state or if there was another more amicaple option would be better... Third... Yes, only 5% of hunters kill more than 1 buck, but how many shoot that first small buck thinking they will now wait for a big buck... The thinking is, if you want to use your 1 tag on a spike, go ahead, but now you have to pass up all other bucks that go by you... (legally)
  14. Personally... I am in favor of a 1 buck per year rule... You want to shoot a spike.. have at it... Want to wait for a bigger/older buck... wait...
  15. Would you rather see the state go to AR's across the state or go to a 1 buck per year no matter what rule????
  16. I several.. but I put up the bow hunting ones in August to mid Sept. brush them in and then leave them alone... When I take them out for gun hunting, I use my Bone Collector blind, keep the mesh up and just tuck it in on the edge of a field.. shot a 3 1/2 year old 9 point out of it so it does work...
  17. Got 1 Muzzle loader/Archery tag and 2 DMAP tags.. but I've got 2 1/2 days to hunt this weekend... so I'm hopeful..
  18. Blackhorn 209 is a great powder choice... Cleaner burning... Consistency is the key to accuracy with ML's... Everything you do, do the same every time.. Mark your ramrod when you get your powder charge set so you compress the load the same every time..
  19. I took a big doe opening day of bow season, took a 135 pound 5 point opening day of rifle, took a doe last Saturday and took a doe on a crop damage permit... Looknig forward to muzzle loader even though it is what I use during gun season...

    To all

Wishing you all a safe and freezer filling gun season!!!! Got my black powder all ready for tomorrow morning...
  21. Leupold's are made in the US if that helps the decision making process...
  22. I'll play the wind and what other hunters do... try to sit most of the day... Also try not to get to discouraged when I hear 100 rounds before noon time...
  23. Personal favorite is the 25-06, hits them and they don't go anywhere... next favorite is 30-06...
  24. Weather this year has been AWFUL... worst ever... Last week was a complete waste of time.. temps in the mid to high 60's... killed deer movement...
