  1. That was originally proposed and they rejected it outright as unsafe.
  2. I was not thinking of gun hunters here. Just bow hunters.
  3. Just proves it is a renewable resource that the town is paying to have privately managed. I'm of the opinion doing it that way is not a better solution than allowing hunters to do it. And if they were allowed to bait, hunt at night and take deer without limit or season, they would be able to do just as good a job as the police.
  4. Ask yourself why it doesn't. Isn't it obvious the anti's and the media really have no problem with killing deer? They have a problem with hunters. That's what sets me off.
  5. True, but the original purpose for preventing average hunters from hunting deer in these areas was because it was deemed unsafe by the elected officials. They like to portray hunters as beer swilling low lives that nobody should want anywhere near their homes. Hunters were asking to do the job with archery equipment, which is much safer, and they were told they weren't qualified to do it. This is what I meant when I said these politicians despise hunters. Police officers do not necessarily have any special deer hunting skills that would qualify them to be out there shooting at deer. They may be well versed in weapons and shooting at targets, but if they don't have years of experience with deer hunting, accidents are more likely to happen. I wonder how much money has been spent over 25 years to have the police shoot deer. It also seems the program isn't working any better than having bow hunters do it since it's been ongoing for 25 years and is still a problem.
  6. Did you miss the line in the article where the LEO put a bullet through someone's window when he missed the deer?
  7. I have about a dozen wrist watches. I hate this daylight savings time stupidity.
  8. The police can justify the time shooting deer as sniper practice on live moving targets. It qualifies as range time. They probably need it.
  9. I think it is important for all hunters to realize these problems were created by the same governments that are now proclaiming themselves to be the solution. Until they passed laws preventing deer hunting in these areas, there was no deer population problem. BTW, no local jurisdiction has the power to ban hunting, as that is strictly a state authority. They stop hunting within their borders by banning the discharge of weapons that could be used for hunting. Therefore, hunting is technically and legally not banned, but discharging a firearm or bow is. Unless you happen to be allowed to discharge a weapon inside their town limits because you are a police officer. Now, how do they connect the ability of a L.E.O. to discharge a weapon in order to defend himself, with hunting deer? They do so by saying they are doing it to keep the public safe from deer/car collisions. (The public also appreciates not having the deer eat their expensive landscaping). That all makes sense until you realize they created the problem and are now making taxpayers fork over millions so they can fix it, especially when allowing controlled hunting would fix the problem for free, and in many cases, bring money into the town. If I lived in a town that was doing this, I would certainly be voicing my displeasure with town officials and making sure the media was exposing all of the details I've outlined about it.
  10. Lawdwaz, perhaps you would be so kind as to fill me in on your thoughts, since you indicated my post was humorous. I've had quite a bit of experience with these town shoots, many in upper class neighborhoods.
  11. And they call themselves the party of diversity and tolerance. They are crossing a line here and are too stupid to know it. Anyone can criticize Israel and it's politics. That's fair game. But when you attack the people simply because they are Jewish, you're a racist bigot that should be censured. The left often picks and chooses what it deems politically correct though. That's why they're hypocrites.
  12. I was raised Catholic, but was never given any good reason why we can't eat meat on Friday, especially during Lent. When I was a kid we never ate meat on Friday all year. Always seemed stupid to me and never got a good explanation from anyone for it. Consequently, I have never followed it. I've always practiced the Christian faith, but have come to reject many of the things the Catholic church demands from it's members.
  13. If people were given all of the costs involved to do this deer genocide, they might begin to understand these killings are done to control deer numbers AND hunters. These towns do not trust the average hunter when it comes to doing this job. They are willing to spend a million dollars to wipe out a deer population in a given area to avoid allowing responsible hunting and creating a renewable hunting resource. Costs are paid for training, equipment (bait, rifles, ammo, suppressors, tree stands, night vision, labor on all of this stuff, etc.) overtime, harvesting the dead deer, processing the deer, inspecting the meat, transporting it to food banks, administering the program from start to finish, getting political approval and permits and maybe public relations needed to avoid public protest. If any local government is doing it without all of these things, it's doing it illegally without the knowledge or approval of the public. What else do they do illegally without the public's knowledge and approval? The NY DEC should never allow these shoots to happen. How is it NY game laws are not applied to these "special" shoots? Everything these government agencies are doing, from night hunting, baiting, either sex, no quota, suppressed shooting, to no check in or accountability for the take, is completely illegal for hunters who pay to harvest an animal they use for food. When something is legal for government, but illegal for the public, that is tyranny. The hunting community in NY should be at the forefront of outrage against these shoots. Hunters are the ones who are getting screwed here. No game animal population in NY state should be controlled by any group other than licensed and trained hunters. These animals are the property of the entire state public, not the local government. Question: Why can't we hunters apply for positions to take these deer legally with special training and conditions? Answer: Because we are not part of the government elite and they despise us.
  14. I did it. We went 14 miles into the ADK to the Cold River near Tupper Lake during the one week where deer & bear are hunted with muzzleloader. I forget the guys name. Was just wondering the other day if he was still in business. Cost $1000 for the week back then.
  15. I guess people with kids will be forced to carry a pistol cocked and locked in their own homes if they want to be ready to defend themselves if something happens.
  16. Used to be, but not any more. If your neighbor "red flags" you in retaliation for reporting something he did, or for calling him out on something he's doing, they come in for no reason. But when they ask about guns and you show them unsecured ones, guess what they do.
  17. "Now get in line, before I kick you so hard you'll be wearing your ass for a hat"
  18. Just a little bit of a correction for this thread. Josey Wales never joined the Confederate Army. He joined "Bloody Bill" Anderson, who was part of the Missouri guerrilla rebel militia. They fought with the South, but were never Confederate soldiers. They were partisan rangers. That's why they were never given any status by the North after the war and were shot on sight, just like happened in the movie. They were all considered war criminals. They did not fly a Confederate flag when they rode. Their flag was simply black, sometimes with Quantrill's name written on it in large letters. The film got the flag right.
  19. Here's the entire program in one statement: "The more they air allegations against the president in the public square, the greater the clamor may be among the Democratic base for impeachment" It's all propaganda and allegation. No facts and no evidence. Leftists are constantly telling lies to the public to get the low IQ public to support impeachment. Anyone who swallows any of this garbage isn't capable of thinking for themselves. They certainly don't have the capacity to understand the law and what actually constitutes a crime. Leftists want President Trump out of office because he is a threat to their totalitarian goals. That's a fact.
  20. Right now, I do not need another rifle. I have all of the bases covered now with rifles that are worth from $1000 to $3000. But if I were looking to buy a new rifle for general big game use and wanted the best value for the money, I'd be buying a Kimber Hunter in .308. I've seen them selling for $700. The rifle is light, has the 84M action and trigger, is stainless steel, very accurate and practically indestructible. Plus it has a detachable magazine, which the Montana's don't. I don't think any rifle sold today will come close to the value a Kimber Hunter offers. And since it is very light, you won't need a take down, which only adds issues to a rifle's accuracy and reliability.
  21. Granddaughter is 5 years old and tall for her age, so I'm getting her one that's 2 sizes bigger than she wears now as she will out grow it in a year. Mom wants one for the grandson too. He's only 4 mos. old. Not sure what size would be good for him. He's getting big fast too. I'm thinking something he could wear when he's 1 year old.
  22. Been there many times fishing the Big Flatbrook and camping in the area. When I was a Boy Scout, we used to go to Camp Cowah, which was also closed due to the Tocks Island Dam project. Since it was cancelled, the federal govt owns all of that stuff and it just sit there. The fed basically stole it all and should be forced to return it all to the rightful owners. Let them keep the little bit of money they got as compensation for pushing them out of that beautiful area. (I've often though about becoming a "squatter" in one of those stone homes in that area. But it's still in goddam New Germany)
  23. Her questioning was pre-planned, orchestrated by the left and rehearsed with Cohen prior to the event. Political theater performed for the gullible.
