Scouted a little this morning. Rained overnight so everything is soaked, but makes stalking quiet. Unfortunately, makes the Toms quiet too, if there's any around that is. So far I've heard nothing.

Interesting video showing velocity vs barrel length. Not much difference.

Your ammo budget will thank you too.

Many years ago I said goodbye to the suburban life and moved to deer camp to live. I will never regret that decision.

Seems to be an updated version of the old .357 Maximum round, which was designed for a revolver. This new .350 is being sold as a rifle round. In truth, it's a pistol round fired from a rifle. It will not come close to what a .223 will do at 300 yards.

Who has bird feeders, and what interesting birds have you had
Rattler replied to rob-c's topic in General Chit Chat
Have one up in the winter, but by April it becomes a "bear feeder" and gets taken down. -
I activated my free 2 month trail a day ago and it's worked for about a total of 10 minutes since. No Signal is what it says.

John Lott's take on this NRA issue. He's right. https://www.foxnews.com/opinion/john-lott-second-amendment-nra-oliver-north?fbclid=IwAR3VNYIzvsrh4v6Uz2ufBK990Hp7ztxAV9emKAO8XRBjUw9Dnm3-h_Zk5Rg

Kimber has a sub-MOA guarantee on their rifles, and the Classic Select grade is like the rest of their rifles. It has a match chamber, match grade trigger, free floating air gauged barrel and pillar bedded stock. The trigger is about the best I've ever felt on a hunting rifle. They are considered to be one of the best accuracy values for the money in hunting rifles. I have 5 Kimber rifles and they are all match grade accurate. From the .22 LR to the .375 H&H, they are the best shooters and hunting rifles in my battery. BTW, they are made in Yonkers, NY.

I too am seeing early leaf production, but the apple trees do not seem to be blossoming early this year. I'm hoping for good apple production this year. So far long range weather forecasts do not show any freezing temps in the near future in my area. Most lows at 40 or only 50 degrees for the next two weeks. It looks like another wet month of May though, even on the opener in the afternoon.

North has apparently been involved with Ackerman McQueen and has taken cash from them. He also wanted to be paid to be President of the NRA, which has never been a paid job. Sounds as if he is trying to ply more power and money out of the NRA. Not a good idea for him to push. When you demand someone resign, or you will put out a letter that will damage the entire NRA, you do not belong in the position of President of that organization, especially when the things that were going to be in the letter have not been proven to be true. Not saying Wayne LaPierre is pure as fresh snow, but North is going about things the wrong way here. If he feels he no longer agrees with the NRA's management, he should be the one resigning, especially when they can simply not nominate him for a 2nd term, which they have now done.

Coincidentally, yesterday's mail came with a free two month subscription to Sirius in my truck. It was free for 6 mos. when I got the new truck and every now and then they offered a free couple of weeks to get me to sign up. I take the free subscriptions and always find I only listen to a few channels and often they don't even come in where I live because the weather is often cloudy. At the end of each trail I'm usually sure I won't want it anymore.

At 20 yards or less, even I would be confident of a kill. But getting a bird that close is on the verge of "expert" skill level. The .410 IMHO is a gun for experts as well, since it requires a lot of skill to be proficient with on most game. It's also considered to be the most difficult gauge with which to score high in trap and skeet.

Seems to be a new fad brewing in the turkey woods. With the dense tungsten shot, I'm sure it's effective within it's 40 yard limit, but the pattern is small and many may decide to push the limit, wounding a lot of birds. The light weight does allow for a lot of woods cruising without getting tired. I think I'll stick with the 12 gauge 3.5" mag. This is just one of the new .410's "aimed" at turkey hunters. Hunting turkey with a single shot is a whole nother thing in itself. https://www.americanhunter.org/articles/2019/4/28/sundaygunday-stevens-301-turkey/?utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=insider&utm_campaign=0419

I'd be looking at a Kimber Classic Select Grade rifle as well. It's in a little higher price point but worth it. It will give you the same accuracy and looks far better IMHO. It's also lighter. Not sure if the factory offers it in 7mm-08 anymore, but there's plenty of new ones on www.gunbroker.com for sale at good prices.

A 3" load of #6's out of a 12 gauge with a turkey choke will have a very tight pattern for quite a few yards. Might as well be a slug at close range. Even at distance, one of those pellets hits the right spot and you're dead. Sounds like it was unsafe gun handling at close range.

I have three of the new Redfield scopes (2-7, 3-9, 4-12) as well as the Battlezone 3-9 and none shift point of impact with a power change. You will not have a problem.

Wearing headphones and situational awareness

Not when other women are around their man they don't. -
Guess they didn’t teach that in liberal arts class...

Yeah, he was middle eastern Arab or something. Hitting people with the bottom of your shoe is a big insult in their world. Considering all the crap they walk on in their streets, I can see why. -

The other day I had a woman tell me she just noticed someone backed into her car, but didn't know when it happened. She assumed it was when she went to the store about 3 days prior, as it was home in her drive since then. She never noticed the front bumper was hanging off the car on the driver's side with the parking light falling out. She does notice every little detail of everything her husband does though. I guess that's selective awareness. -
I don't pay for any of that stuff. I don't even have cable. Just a bunch of DVD's. Leaves me more money for guns & ammo.

Many people today are inconsiderate, oblivious or both. You can identify them by the headphones or their face in the phone. That being said, it does seem to be an improvement over carrying a huge boom box on their shoulder. -
Hard to replace Entwistle on bass.

What's left of them anyway.
