  1. We use the Sawyers spray. I sprayed my clothes the night before and didnt bring it with me. I guess for scouting it would work to carry the spray with you and spray down as needed but i know for hunting that would be the worst thing you could do b/c before it dries that stuff smells like spray paint and i dont think you would have luck getting close to any deer with that kind of smell lol. We did actually have a bottle of off in the car which we did spray on the chiggers and it seemed to work but we had to do it every time we got back to the car b/c it didnt seem to last to long. Hopefully they will be gone soon!!!!! John
  2. I just got the 3rd arm mini xl for filming second angles and for when i am by myself. I got the tbolt model that comes with a screw in t-bolt that you screw into the tree and then slide the arm on. I have tested it out and it seems like its going to be a great arm for when i am filming by myself. I also got the attachment that connects to my climber so its always on there and when i climb up i just slide the arm on and im ready to go. It folds up real small and its light as can be. I will be using it with my canon hf200. here is a link to the site if you want to check it out. http://www.the3rdarm.com/products.htm#minixl John
  3. I guess some areas out east dont have as many as others becasue i sprayed down my clothes (Pants, Socks, Boots, Shirt, Hat) and had hundreds of them on me all being on my pants from the knee down. I know that spray works great for ticks but im not convinced it does anything for chiggers I also have a foot full of bites to prove it lol. Either way i will be spraying my clothes down on Friday night before the first so i can have some sort of protection. John
  4. My brother bought it at dicks last week. We sprayed down the day before goign out to scout on the island and it did a great job at keeping the ticks off of us. Didnt do much for the chiggers though. Our pants were loaded with them. It seems like i can walk through the woods all day and not get them. Once i step into any sort of grass out there i am covered in them. Hopefully with the cooler weather they will start to die off before the season. John

Ill be out both Sat and Sunday for opening weekend. I Cant wait!!!! Hopefully the weather stays on the cool side and we should be in for a good weekend. John
  6. Hunting both Long Island and upstate i get to hunt quite a bit. Ill be out just about every weekend from oct 1st to dec 31st with a few being 3 day weekends. I also took off the second week of Nov and Thanksgiving week as well. I also get time off from work the week after christmas so i will be out that week with the bow down on LI if i havent already filled my tags. Good luck to everybody this season. John
  7. Here is a tutorial that my brother wrote on our site about doing the european mounts. his come out great so i can def recommend doing it this way. http://www.rubinofilms.com/joe/?p=31 John
  8. I have a brand new Summit Hawk hang on treestand that i am looking to sell. I have the stand, talon, and i will also throw in the backpack straps that i bought for the stand for free. This stand is very easy to setup and takes about 2 minutes to hang. I am not sure if i still have the box it came in but the stand has never been used and has been sitting under my bed since i got it. im asking 135tyd. Here is a pic of the exact stand. John John
  9. Awesome pics Dave!!!! Not sure where you are in Chenango but my buddy has a place up there and i try to get up there as much as i can throughout the hunting season. I love hunting up there.. John
  10. Here are a few pics that we got over the past few weeks. The spot with the bear is going to be an awesome spot this year. I know there are a few real big ones in there that we just haven't gotten on camera yet. Every Pic i get is in the daytime and i got about 160 pics in 2 weeks of a ton of different deer. John
  11. If it were me i would let him hunt the stand and then scout for a new spot on the farm to hang a new stand in. like everybody else has said come fall that buck will most likely be long gone from that area anyways or be on a totally differenet travel route. Are there any white oaks on the property? If there are i bet you will find that deer and every other deer on the farm there come early season when they are falling off the trees and could make an ever better spot to hang a stand. John
  12. lol isnt hunting something we do to get away from our wives/girlfriends??? J/K. I have taken my girlfriend out with me a few times while bowhunting all she does is sit in the stand and read so it wasnt too bad but im glad she never wanted to really get into it b/c i like my alone time in the woods. John
  13. Yea that sucks. Where i hunt if you passed on a 3 1/2 year old buck you might as well not hunt there b/c there isnt very many of them running around and you would be sitting in your stand wasting your time if you were passing on them when they came by. Most bucks dont live past 2 1/2 where they are small 8 points.
  14. The farm that i hunt is the same way. We try to pass on the small ones 6's and 4's but as soon as they step over the line boom. It can be very frustrating. Last year i was hunting about 200 yards down a hill side. I saw a decent buck walking up toward the road but he wasnt a shooter so i let him walk. As soon as he got to the road and crossed over i hear a gunshot needless to say i was a little frustrated that morning but thats hunting i guess.
  15. Nice buck. Looks like he made quite a jump from 1 1/2 to 2 1/2. I know it would be hard for my people in NY to pass on a deer like that so i hope he makes it another year or 2. John
  16. My brother and I Use the Summit Hawk stands both for hunting and filming and i would highly recommend that stand. Its very easy to setup and takes about 2 min. You basically attach the talon to the tree and then the stand hooks onto that it couldnt be eaiser. For climbing sticks we use the muddy sticks. They also go up quick and easy with virtually no noise b/c of the rope style mounting system to the tree. John
  17. Awesome NY Buck. I cant wait to see a pic with him on the ground come fall!! John
  18. Awesome bucks Looks like you are in for a good season if they stick around John
  19. I have the same wildgame cam but its black not camo. I am happy with that one too but it really doesnt compare to the Bushnell as far as size and trigger speed. Also the bushnell has the video with audio and time lapse which the wildgame cam doesnt have. Either way they are both good cams but i would give the advantage to the Bushnell from what i have seen from both of these cams being out in the field. John
  20. My house is in Cairo. but i hunt in both Cairo and East Durham. John
  21. I would def consider the Bushnell Trophy cam. I picked one up a few months ago and i couldnt be happier with it. It does both pics and video and the video even has audio. It also does time lapse and the size is great it fits in the palm of my hand which makes for easy carrying in and out of the woods. I got mine on eaby for 149 and the still have similar deals on there now. Hope this helps. http://cgi.ebay.com/New-2011-Bushnell-8mp-Video-Trophy-Cam-Camera-119436C-/130558941725?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item1e65eb5a1d John
  22. I havent put any out in suffolk this year but i know a few guys that have them out and are getting some good pics of some real nice bucks. I also fear the chiggers had a real bad expierence with them 2 years ago and i hope to never go through that again.
  23. Those are some awesome bucks. I hope you get a shot at one of them this fall. Keep the pics coming!!! lol John
