went out with my brother yesterday morning. We decided to stay home from upstate since it has been real slow up there and hunt the island with our bows. turned out to be a good choice saw a spike chasing 5 does a small 8 pt and my brother took this guy around 815. he is going to post the story as soon as he can. I couldnt have been happier for him. Im going out this afternoon so hopefully today will be my day. John

I cant wait to get back out on LI this weekend. last time i was out i saw 5 bucks in one morning. My friend hunted the same property today and saw six different bucks. two were chasing does real hard. They were all small with the biggest one being a small 8. we are still getting trail cam pics of some real nice bucks so i know they are around. good luck to anybody going out this weekend. p.s. Geno dont give up yet i usually see the best action of the year in december on the island. John

Good Luck guys!!! Just got home from another hunt on the island. saw 5 different bucks today with the biggest being a 7 pointer. No sign of the big guy today but all the bucks i saw were rutting pretty hard. Im going up to Chenango County tonight for a few days so maybe my luck will turn around up there. Liwaterman that deer is living on the on some private property bordering otis pike. Just to be clear that was a trailcam pic of the buck if he was that close to me he would be dead by now lol. That wasnt the one i saw last night though. the one i saw was bigger. John

i hunted long island today. saw a ton of deer moving including 2 8pts. one being almost 140". def gonna cry myself to sleep tonight. been hunting this spot for two days now and all the deer i have seen were about 40 yards in front of me. so tonight i decedied to setup my climber over there and the monster 8 came 10 yards behind the stand i have been hunting. i should be setup perfect for the morning so im hoping tomorrow will be the day. this is another buck running around where im hunting and the one i saw tonight was much bigger. cant wait for the morning!!

Weirdest thing i ever saw was in the springtime. There was a spider and som other weird bug fighting. They were locked onto eachtother and the unknown bug actually killed the spider and startred dragging it away. It was like something you would see out of National Geographic. I got it on video too and everybody i show just watches in disbelief. John

I will be upstate for Sat and Sunday but im really excited to get back on sunday night b/c i will be hunting the island all next week and my buddy has got some real big bucks on his trailcam last week at the farm i will be hunting and most of them were in the daylight. I cant wait to get out there!!! John

Thanks for all the great input guys. I wasnt trying to start this thread b/c i want to be lazy and sleep in. But sometimes i just feel like when im crunching the frozen leaves to my stand in the dark i am just doing more harm than good. I feel like its better to wait until the sun comes up and the ground softens up where i can sneak into my stand quietly without disturbing much on the way in. I guess it all depends on stand location and time of the year. John

Cool Video. I got this picture last week up in Chenango county. I put my scent wick out that morning and i was going to hunt that spot in the afternoon. Man was i pissed when i checked the cam and saw he came in the same morning lol. would have had a 15 yard shot at him from my stand John

ASAT is the only Camo i will ever wear again. After seeing the results this season wearing it all bow season i will never switch back to anything else. John

Just wanted to see who agrees with me on this but i have been hunting for about 15 years now and i have always went out before first light to get into my stand plenty early. Most of the time (not always) i usually sit until about 8:00 and without seeing any action. I always feel like from 8-11 is the best time of the morning to be out there and have seen the most action during those times. Im starting to feel like im wasting my time getting up at 4:30 to get into my stand before first light when i can sleep till about 7:30 and get in the stand by 8 and hunt till about 12 not feeling tired from getting up so early. I know during the rut you can see deer at any time so its good to stay in all day but im talking about early and late season hunting. as a goof i wanted to put my theroy to the test so i slept until 8:00 yesterday morning and got in the stand by 8:45. I saw about 8 deer all up and browsing around and i also saw one nice buck chasing a doe at about 9:45. I know there are a lot of factors that play into this theroy but since in my 15 years of hunting i have never shot a buck at first light so im starting to wonder why the heck am i getting up so early to hunt when the best time to be in the woods is not until after 8 anyway. I would love to hear your opinions on this theory. John

Saw 4 bucks this mOrning. 3 spikes and a 4 pointer. They were all grunting like crazy and chasing does. I passedon a small 6 point last night. Hopefully a bigger one will show himself soon.. Hunting in 7p John
