  1. They won't start the new 'Live from the woods 2018!' thread for ya so you jumped the shark! Nice!!!
  2. Why would anyone be arrested for this in the first place?? Any LEO that arrests for this opens themselves up to a civil lawsuit, period. No judge is going to rule against the Circuit Court ruling that upheld the original decision by Skretny. The constant fear-mongering over carring 10 rounds is absurd. The 7 round limit was struck down as unconstitutional and that's that.
  3. No duty to inform in NY, but tying the DL to the PP via the recert process will surely provide the LEO with that info when he/she runs your license. For the record, 10 rd mags are completely legal. The 7 rd limit was stuck down in court, LE knows it, and no one needs to wait on Albany to change that language in the penal code.
  4. You really should start citing your behind as the source for this stuff you post. When a projectile hits a twig/branch, it is going to deflect and possibly tumble. The degree to which that happens will be determined by far too many variables to provide an exact answer that can be applied as a rule of thumb. It does not "push thru" like some kinda laser beam unaffected by the obstruction. Suffice to say, accuracy to the target and penetration will be adversely affected versus making a clean shot. You might get a kill shot on a deer or you might not. Me personally, I'm going for the clean kill shot every time. To claim that using a scope in the rain is "futile", making open sights the only viable option, is about as baseless a claim as anything you normally post. I know you refuse to spend a few bucks on a scale, but any other hunter knows that a good scope paired with flip-up lens covers is very effective when hunting in foul weather. Magnification can definitely help a hunter to thread the needle through an opening among branches; again, hardly "futile" as you claim. However, my method of hunting isn't to snap-shoot through brush at an obscured or moving target and hope for a kill.
  5. 1. Hunt new land by way of permission or lease. 2. 100% humane kill rate (1 shot, 1 recovery). 3. Notch my first buck tag. 4. Notch my first crossbow tag. 5. Harvest 3 or more deer.
  6. But he killed that brush dead! Besides, even dinsdale hasn't dropped an invisible Predator.
  7. I'll admit, this list is so impressive that I needed to Google more than a few names. You sir, as they say, are "Living tbe Dream".
  8. If anyone isn't familiar, here are links to then-Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin's exposure of Cuomo's gun grabbing wish list that he tried to put into his un-SAFE Act. facebook post youtube video of floor debate where Dems try to hide Cuomo's gun confiscation
  9. Never truly lost, but I once got awfully confused trying to find a herd path going up to Panther Brook while hiking in the Santanoni's. It took about an hour of circling to finally realize that the path I couldn't find was actually submerged now by some very industrious beavers. After bushwhacking through some thick crap, I finally got back on track, summited all 3 peaks and ultimately walked out in the dark. Great hike with some valuable lessons learned about problem solving and keeping my head in the game.
  10. Did you see the list of un-SAFE Act provisions that Cuomo wanted, but didn't get? One of them was outright confiscation; his own party thankfully told him that would never fly. So what we have with this new recert law is basically a backdoor way to confiscate any and all firearms from a law-abiding citizen merely because they missed a poorly-advertised paperwork deadline. I certainly don't want to see anyone stripped of their property, but maybe such a case could make it to SCOTUS and ultimately end the blatant abuse of our Rights here in NY. No law-abiding citizen should need ANY government permission to own a firearm!
  11. What he means is that the consequence of not recertifying is that the State can confiscate all of your pistols plus all of your long guns too.
  12. Good looking out, especially when the consequence is one having ALL of their firearms confiscated.
  13. All of the above plus cheeseburgers and pizza!
  14. The dots are used for range estimation and providing a quick holdover so you don't need to adjust the turret first. I would picking a zero that best suits your ammo and most likely hunting ranges. For my purposes, I have my NF NSX zeroed at 100 yards. This should leave me within about 2" for most shots, easily accurate enough on deer vitals. The 150gr InterLocks haven't missed yet. You can find all kinds of tutorials online if you really want to get into the weeds on longer range shooting and target identification at various distances.
  15. My first go at a chili, here's how it went down: 3 lb ground venison 2 cans Bush's dark red kidney beans 1 28 oz can petite diced tomatos 1 28 oz can crushed tomatos 1 red and 1 yellow pepper 1 large sweet onion 1 tbsp minced garlic 2 packets of McCormick Chili seasoning 2 tbsp black pepper 2 tbsp parsley 1 tbsp cayene pepper 1 tbsp salt extra virgin olive oil Lea & Perrins Worcestershire sauce Habanero hot sauce (optional) Cheddar cheese First, finely dice the peppers and onions into a bowl and set aside. Add olive oil to a large skillet and brown the venison over low heat. Add worcestershire sauce and 1 McCormick pak while browning. When done, pour browned meat into a strainer and set aside. Add diced veggies to the skillet with minced garlic and add olive oil. Saute over low heat, stirring often. While doing that, add diced tomatos, crushed tomatos, beans, 1 McCormick pak, salt & pepper, cayene pepper, parsley and some hot sauce to the crock pot. Make it as hot or mild as desired; I used about a 1/2 tbsp of the habanero. Add meat once drained. Add veggies from skillet and stir everything together. Cook on high heat one hour then an additional 4 hours on low heat. Stir and sample at least hourly and add additional spices as desired. Top off with shaved cheddar cheese and slice of hearty bread.
  16. My former restaurant owner gf had a taste and said it was, "really, really good". Mind you, she hates venison, compliments are rare and I'm watching her steal one spoonful after another from the pot! Biz, I'll post what I did in the venison chili thread.

    Beer

I'm not sure what makes this different than a Hennepin, but it tastes the same.
  18. My very first batch of venison chili.
  19. Making my first batch today. I basically pulled ideas from all of the recipes you guys posted. After an hour in the pot, it's already smelling pretty good.

Is this before or after the Chiefs game?
  22. One of my all-time comfort faves.
  23. Bonus: they can also be used to cut free from zip tie handcuffs.
  24. You know what I'm talking about. Those foods that knock the chill out or make you feel good on a crappy day. We all have them. What's your favorite comfort food for staying in and filling your belly? Tonight, I went with venison brats wrapped in bacon and coated with brown sugar and cayenne pepper. Harpoon Winter Warmer to wash them all down.
