Snacks at 41 is a given LOL

My daughter was 5 her first time out with me. Snacks, books, tablet, sleeping bag whatever it took to keep her comfortable and happy for an hour or so. She was so intrigued about hunting from the first time I brought a deer home to butcher she sat in the garage with me as I skinned and quartered it. She’s now 12 and finally was able to hunt herself this past weekend. You won’t see deer with a 5 year old in the stand but it also won’t matter to you. I highly encourage anyone to take there young child out with them. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

22LR rifle accuracy and range?
Moho81 replied to dbHunterNY's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
Ours is sighted in for 100 yards and my daughter will hit a 10" steel plate all day long from a rest. After sighting it on paper we just shoot at the plate. Way more satisfying hearing that ping off the plate than shooting at paper! I can't recall exactly but I'd guess while siting it in and shooting at paper we destroyed a 4" x 4" section of the paper. We defiantly where not stacking them on top of each other at 100 yards -
It's cube steak. Make all the rude comments your heart desires.

Cabela's was the same way when I stopped on Friday. Saw it was locked behind glass then remembered I would have to go through a background check just for ammo so I walked out without even looking.

Just totaled the hours up from the weekend. We hunted 3 days 5 sits for a total of 17.75 hours in a ground blind. Not bad for a 12 year old. Oh and 6 deer seen. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

She’s 80% the reason why I built the enclosed stand. This way we have heat and don’t have to worry about how cold or wet it is. She doesn’t need much for special winter gear. A 4-5 hour sit on a cold day is easy now for her. The other 20% before you even ask is because I was also tired of doing dark to dark sits in temperatures in the teens. Or 40 degrees and raining which is worse in my opinion. I still like to sit out in the elements because the enclosed blind isn’t the same feeling but when it gets bad I can retreat to the enclosed and be comfortable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

We always have a good time in stand wether we see anything or not. I’m not a super serious hunter and even less serious when she’s with me. I run a if we ain’t having fun it in the woods then why are we out here program. For the most part I let her decide how long we stay out and what we shoot. This weekend being her first time being the Hunter she has the run of the show. I offer my advise and the times I think we should hunt until. Surprisingly being the hunter she didn’t pull the plug once and we put in a lot of hours and had some cool experiences together. She will be back out November 5th with the cross bow. Ugh. He came out 45 yards away took one look at the blind and took off running tail up. Gonna hang in until 10 just in case Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

One last chance. We moved the ground blind in the dark to be a little closer to where he pops out. It’s rained pretty good last night but no more rain in the forecast. Only going to hunt the morning no matter what happens Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got some time left but this is getting disappointing/frustrating/sad. The deer came out and instead of coming east like he’s done every single time he went west instead. Less than an hour of hunting left today and we haven’t seen him in probably over an hour. We have tomorrow morning to try as well if tonight doesn’t pan out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Im not sure if I posted this yet but the morning hunt had 2 small bucks 10 yards away but on the wrong side offering no shot opportunity. We stuck it out until 11am then called it quits. Now we just got back into a field right next to the club house where a small button buck has been hanging around for almost three weeks now. He’s an orphan from the early September season. Everyone was on board with leaving him alone until one of the youths can come out. We just need him to show up now. If he doesn’t tonight we will try again tomorrow morning Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Been in the ground blind since 6:45. 2 small bucks snuck in close through some thick stuff no way could my daughter have swung on them without getting busted. I think I’ve bedded down fifteen yards away but I don’t know that for sure. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Well my daughters first day of hunting ended like most of our days hunting. Only saw a couple of does on our way in this morning. Nothing while sitting morning or evening. Gonna give the same spot a go in the morning. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

It’s cold enough. The meat will be fine as long as the yotes don’t get to it. I’ve noticed more yotes on cam over here in my neck of 8G Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That’s not a lot of blood. I’d be waiting until morning now Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Got settled in about 15 min ago. A new ground blind in the oak trees 30 yards off a well used path. Will only have two quick spots for a shot if it all goes according to plan. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Calling it at 10:30. Gonna give this spot a try in the afternoon as well nothing seen besides the 2 in the early morning on the way in Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I’ve occasionally looked at their predictions and have found no correlation while in the field. I just check it for today and it has good conditions until 8am then it goes to great until about noon then back down. We had doe’s in the field at dawn and nothing sense. It’s also starting to rain which according to the prediction is now in the great time frame. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Myself and 2 friends wrote up a resolution to allow youth to hunt with a crossbow or gun from an elevated position. First it was submitted to the Erie County Federation of Sportsmen where it got support and passed onto the New York State Conservation Council. At the council’s fall meeting our resolution got the support of the council and now they will take it and lobby the state during the 2023 legislative year. There is no guarantee the state will change the law but nothing was going to change unless someone tried. So keep your fingers crossed and maybe in 2023 the youth will be allowed up in a tree stand. Had to wait to get into the ground blind this morning. 2 doe where feeding in the food plot. Tried to gently bump them and they left with the tails down. Hopefully we didn’t blow the area out and they return. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I'll be out all weekend or however long it takes with my 12 year old daughter. It will be her first hunt ever besides sitting in a stand with me. I'm pretty stoked for it. I'm not sure what she will want to shoot but I have a feeling it will be just about anything besides a small doe or button buck. I'm hoping for a good sized doe at a minimum as I kinda want to spend the money to get a shoulder mount done of her first deer.
