  1. I use them and like them. No issues so far.
  2. I got my stands in Friday, only took 3 days to get here. One of them had way too much powdercoat on it, and the round bar on the platform would not swivel, so Sportsmans Guide issued a return label for it, and will be shipping a new one. The other two went together easy and are very nice. I would say they are well worth the price. They are not they typical cheap stands you get for the same price at Dicks or Gander Mountain. Comfortable seat and very adjustable.
  3. Had a really good weekend at one of the farms. Our QDMA branch field day was held there this year. Friday I took a half day to get all of the mowing done and move the tractors and equipment to the demo plot area. My buudy and I finished up prepping the plots and the sky was so clear I hung out for a while checking out the stars. Saturday morning I was down there early meeting up with the branch volunteers and getting tents and everything setup. The day went off without a hitch, weather was perfect and the speakers and subjects were very good. After everyone left, and we packed everything up, my buddy and I went back to the plots and finished them up. Both were planted in Winter Rye. One plot we worked with the tiller, cultipacked, seeded and then rolled with a flat roller. The second plot was done with a 10 foot tow behind disc and the cultipacker. We just wanted to compare which way works better, as we are looking at expanding these two smaller plots into a pretty large, 3 to 4 acre plot next year. The tiller is on the small side and it would take a long time to work a plot that large. My buddy is actually thinking he should sell it and buy a larger one. By the end of the day, the plots were done, so food plotting for us this year is finished unless we have a failure on one of our brassica plots, and it needs to get disced and planted with Winter Rye. I will post some pics of everything later.
  4. First buck I ever killed with my muzzleloader was at 190 yards. It was a high shoulder shot and took the buck right off its feet. It wasnt a "jesus shot" either. I practice at 200 yards with it every time I have it at the range, and knew exactly where it would hit. The slug passed completely through the deer, taking out both shoulders in the process.
  5. Thanks for the info guys. I figure if I dont like the scope, Ill get a new one for it. The price I got this for was unbeatable. I know it isnt high end, Ill just keep my shots within my personal comfort zone, probably 40 or so. Nope Larry, I wasnt gonna get one this year either, it fell in my lap.
  6. So I acquired a crossbow today, Ill be picking it up next week. Its a new in the box Barnett Raptor. Not what I really wanted but it should be a decent one to get going with. 6 1/2 lbs, 330fps with 97ft/lb ke. It ought to do the trick. It has a 4x scope on it and a few bolts. Im looking forward to picking it up and seeing how it shoots.
  7. So which way is it? Does arrow weight, etc have a big effect like you state on the last page, or doesnt it? You cant have it both ways. enough of the Jesus shot nonsense. First you claim physics, now religion? You wont limit anything, the next one will probably be a brisket shot at 75 yards and youll claim that Jesus wanted that deer to live.
  8. I like Hang Ons, but will hunt out of a ladder stand as well. I dont do much hunting out of ground blinds.
  9. I have a room built out in my garage with cabinets, counterspace, etc that I keep all of my hunting gear in. Theres a padded ladder hook on the wall that it hangs from. Nothing special.
  10. I wouldnt buy it. It has a very shallow foot platform. I have a stand similar to that and it sucks.
  11. I didnt post it lol. That was just a link to the NYODN site
  12. So as far as bolt weight vs arrow weight, I see the typical Easton Bloodline 22" bolt, ready to hunt with a 125gr broadhead, weighs in at 433 grains. The Easton Bloodline hunting arrow, at 29", ready to hunt with a 125gr broadhead, weighs in at 398 grains. Vertical and compound bows are not that far off from each other in speed. The Hoyt Nitrum (probably their most popular hunting bow right now) IBOs around 340 to 350 fps. The Ten Point Turbo XLT (a pretty popular model) shoots around 345 fps. What was your argument about weight, etc again wolc123?
  13. Guys, lets keep this thread to swapping DMPs. Thanks.
  14. Im thinking they just dont know what to do, because their low hanging fruit strategy of flooding the areas with tags didnt work. They dont seem to care to listen to what people want, or look around at other states and take examples of good programs that work. They are completely blind to the fact that hunter satisfaction is going to make or break their "management plan". They need hunters to buy into the plan and carry it out. Thats not gonna work so well when they piss a large portion of hunters off, and make the hunters less willing to work with them. This is what we get when politicians are running the show. We need a real wildlife management department in this state, thats run by qualified individuals.
  15. It wont be state wide, so dont get too excited.

  17. Id rather see part of gun season as doe only if they need to kill off does. It would make more sense than bow season. Ill continue to hunt the way I hunt, starting October 16th.
  18. Yep, same price as me, I just got 3 stands and 1 stick. Great deal! I forgot in my post to say the savings I got that dropped it down.
  19. Just a couple of days away! Weather looks to be perfect. Still time to register!
  20. I ordered 3 stands, a set of ladder sticks and joined the Advantage Club to save a couple of bucks. Shipped it was just over $180. I could have only bought 2 of those stands at the store for the same price.
