  1. If they really want in on this gravy train, they will implement higher taxes on your businesses and clients. Its as simple as that. The states arent worried about your money, they are worried that your industry is hurting our natural resources (wildlife).
  2. So a quick update from last weekend. I didnt get out Saturday morning, but headed down to the farm early afternoon and swapped out camera cards before heading to the stand. It was a good sit, passed on a yearling 4 point and saw a few doe out of range. My buddy Mark had 2 shooters just out of range and a couple of smaller bucks and does on the other end of the section of woods we were hunting. Sunday morning I met up with Mark again and we headed to the same woods. I started out sitting on a field edge, but pretty quickly changed locations to a stand deeper in the woods, as the winds whipping across the fields was too much to stand. Mark had a big, mature 8 at 18 yards, but he just couldnt get a shot off as there were other deer there and he didnt have the chance to draw or move into position. I saw a couple of doe and a few fox. One fox was huge, almost small coyote sized. Ive never seen one that big before. Mid day Sunday Mark and I had some stuff to get done around one of the farms, then we headed out for the afternoon sit. I went down to the same end of the property as Mark had sat that morning, but in a different stand. Ended up with a button buck and a 1 1/2 year old coming by, right under my stand. Then a little whie after, I saw one of the shooters right over in the area of the stand Mark had sat that morning, Looks like thats a real hot spot right now. Mark saw a couple of small bucks and a doe that was out of his range. It was another fun weekend, but Im getting anxious to put some meat in the freezer. Gonna be on a doe mission this weekend. Need to start filling our DMAPs.
  3. Dont get discouraged yet, the best time to be in the woods is from now till the end of November. The big boys are on their feet as we speak.
  4. Yeah I may have to take my plugs with me when I hunt. If I have time to put them in, I will. If not, well, Ill blast my ears lol. The one thing that really bothers me about the gun, is the stupid Remington finish. Already has a couple of small spots of rust I had to clean off. After the season is over, shes going to get Cerakoted. Im also going to swap the stock out for something a tad nicer.
  5. I thought they were at first too, then started looking at other diagrams of bone structures and realized what they were lol.
  6. No it doesnt. The bones you see above the lungs are the vertical pieces that go up from the spine. They are not rib bones. Those "animated pictures" are computer generated Images done in layers, and are anatomically correct. Its not some cartoon site that I pulled them from. They came from the D&DH shot placement software. The other drawings and diagrams came from biologist sites.
  7. Heres the thread I was talking about. Look through it. http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/6770-deer-anatomy/
  8. I made a shot a couple of years ago where it went right through the backstraps. The arrow stayed in the deer until brush pulled it out. The same arrow, bow, etc has punched right through numerous deer, so it wasnt a matter of speed, Ke, etc. It happens. If the arrow hit one of the bones that stick up from the spine, and broke it, etc, it can stun the deer and knock them down. Sorry, but you are wrong about the below the spine thing.
  9. Theres a pretty extensive thread on deer anatomy on here. Its pinned. The proverbial "no mans land" between the lungs and spine does not exist. High, non fatal hits will go above the spine, right through the backstraps. They will bleed like a stuck pig for about 100 to 200 yards, then the blood will disappear, alot of times, you find big blood clots right before it disappears.
  10. If the name calling doesnt stop, this thread goes bye bye. Last time I ask.
  11. You have yet to see what be the case? Ive left deer overnight before with zero issues as long as the weather is cold. Ive left plenty of deer hang with their skins on for days, again with no issues. Sounds to me like your butcher is keeping meat for himeslf and telling people he tossed it because it smelled bloated. Theres one born every minute from what they say...
  12. My daughter shoots a Hoyt Ruckus. She will be using this bow up until the point where she can afford to buy a new one herself. Check around on Archerytalk, you can get them used for a good deal. Hers cost me @ $450 fully rigged. http://www.hoyt.com/compounds/ruckus
  13. Same thing many have been saying all along.
  14. Depends for me. Bucks? I prefer to shoot a bigger buck, for bow season at this point, its 2 1/2 year old or better, for gun, its 3 1/2 or better. When it comes to meat I shoot does, and on one of the farms I hunt, its about population control, so fawn does are fair game. I try not to shoot button bucks, but ive made errors in the past on that.
  15. If you look at the overall temps in Iowa for the day it was killed (Oct12), youll notice the overnight temps in the mid 30s to low 40s. Perfectly fine weather to let a deer sit overnight and still preserve the meat.
  16. Take the Escalade and build it to be a real off road capable vehicle (like the Jeep with an aftermarket suspension is) and then yea, it will. Can't compare a luxury SUV with a purpose built off roader.
  17. I'm asking everyone not pointing fingers : )
  18. I was thinking the same thing on the way to work this morning, They are really starting to move. We have a bunch of mature bucks moving during the day on cams and from our observations in the woods this past week. Its a great time to be in the woods! Congrats on the buck btw
  19. Ok guys, lets simmer down on the name calling please and thanks.
  20. The more out of whack your buck to doe ratio is, the higher the chances are that you won't see as much buck movement during the rut. If the Bucks don't need to seek out the does, they won't have to move as much. Kill the does
  21. And you came to this assumption how and why? How do you know he is not feasing on the meat right at this moment? Some of the crap people say is just plain silly.
