Antler Restrictions - voluntary or otherwise
WNYBuckHunter replied to Curmudgeon's topic in Deer Hunting
People here rarely tire of kicking this horse. Its one of the biggest issues facing NY in the hunting relm. I agree 100% with your statement. Voluntary is good, and recruitment of others into that voluntary mindset should happen through education, not forcing things down peoples throats. The farms I hunt are a good example, used to be a brown and down, drive the deer every day type of deal there. Most of the guys there have been thinking differently for a few years now. Most of the farms around us are as well. Last year, and so far this year, we only shot one buck that was not to the ears, and that was a youth's first deer. We have great deer showing up and everyone is happy. Why? Because we all CHOOSE to hunt the same way, nobody forced anything on us. We still do some drives in some areas, heck, they are alot of fun, and we put a good dent in the doe population that way. We have fun, we knock down some great deer, and we make lots of great memories. -
Antler Restrictions - voluntary or otherwise

You do know that there are very few areas in the midwest with ARs, right? Even Illinois, the one with the most, doesnt have them everywhere. Saying the Midwest has good deer hunting because of ARs is complete nonsense. You have to start looking at many other factors, like large chunks of contiguous land, little pressure on the deer, low hunter numbers, and thats even before you go into the reasons why the average buck out there is larger than in NY. -
Ive heard of a Hail Mary, but never a Hail Merry.... good luck

A tree stand I got off Craigslist for 40 bucks
WNYBuckHunter replied to ronschaniel's topic in General Hunting
on a 15' stand, you should only need one bar, but you can use 2. However you want to attach them should work fine. Id say if you want to use both, put one around the bottom or center of the 2nd section up, then put the other one up near the top. In reality, the guy probably gave you an extra bar by mistake. -
Cool pics. Ive been doing the same thing for years. Something fun for the off season. Ill even go so far as to pick up road kills and add them to the pile.

Some people will buy anything with the right brand name slapped on it. I enjoyed the part of the video where the guy explained how every cam combo was tried in order to make a no cam bow. Uhhhhhh, what did I miss? Also, most accurate bow ever? Like guys havent been cutting Xs with all kinds of bows for years? Give me a break.

Great buck! congrats!

I saw a bunch of deer this past weekend, including a mature buck. The first buck of the year for our farm hit the ground on Friday.

Um, you eat it, just like any other deer.

Posted /no trespassing signs pulled down
WNYBuckHunter replied to Slickbowht's topic in Deer Hunting
I spent about 5 hours total this weekend dealing with trespassers and putting up replacement Posted signs for ones that were ripped/fallen down, and adding more. Sucks to deal with, but seems to be part of the game. -
Go to bass pro and shoot a few

5 or more after looking at the history and realizing what deer that is.

Youre looking at the flagship bow. Take a look at the Titan, or Wicked Ridge line. The top end Wicked Ridge is around $700 IIRC

NCW will travel to you. I believe Foothills will as well.

Im really envious grow!

That look like a 2 1/2 to me.

The corn down at our place is still not dry enough for them to cut. They dont want to spend the money on propane for the driers.

I do silver skin up with a razor sharp filet knife. It gets easy after you do it a bunch of times.
-
I practice with it on and off, no difference really. I usually take it off in the stand, just that much less to get in the way if I have to move.

Ive read some good things on them, still wouldnt buy without shooting one though.
