Is the black blob a porcupine or groundhog?

I feel your pain. I grazed a nice buck last weekend knew right away the shot might have been off. I spent the next day 8 hours searching without any sign.

First time I've used the rifle hunting. Probley just thinking about it too much because of that. I have access to surrounding land just needed to call my neighbor who is a hunter first. I didn't want to impede and he said go for it he is out of town. If he is dead I'll fine him but i didn't want to jump him. Thanks everyone

Well here we go. My first shot at a ADK buck and I rushed the shot. Nice 8 point I watched at about 4:30 cut about 80 yards behind my food plot. He disappeared for 10 minutes in a thicket, when he came out i shot. I should have taken an extra second but was excited, there was a slight rain as I shot and after so blood will be hard to track. Took a look around till dark spotting light blood at the point of the shot. Tomorrow will be a long day, wish me luck.

Was just telling a friend about Huntstand.

Sdcard can be encrypted if the small button on the left side of the adapter or the card itself is down, push it all the way up and that will fix your problem if the camera is good. That's exactly what will give you no memory with a working sdcard . Some cams easily bump that little switch down when they are ejected.

5h Late October No deer movement during hunting hours but on camera there is a 2 1/2 year old buck 3 minutes behind a big doe nose to ground with no intent of stopping and feeding in the food plot. Had one solid rub in the direction he came from.

Well I have seen negitive reviews of chicory in northern states but from the pictures above I see different. Most of this was eaten in the last two weeks. Clover and oats haven't been touched but chicory and brassicas are crushed already. 80% of my brassicas were eaten in one week right after the first hard frost. Bear, turkey, deer seem to enjoy. Whitetail Extreme if anyone was wondering.

All great advice thanks everyone. I did walk the entire pond, it didn't seem like a lot of water compared to Google earth which is a 3 year old picture. Dam was very small and had a constant trickle of water. Deer do drink or cross at the dam it looked active with deer. Yes the water source is a large stream from Kayuga Lake. It runs adjacent it the bottom of the property. As a disclaimer it's not mine yet I own 40 acres down the road and I'm thinking of adding to my collection and from what has been said it seems like a good idea. Hope my wife doesn't ever go on this site and see what I read. There are tons and tons of coyote on a preserve very close I hear them every night. Tons of pictures so that advice hits home Sailing.

Stinking beautiful but Im out of my element. This pond doesnt appear to be active so my question is where would you sit? One view you oversee the pond area and newly made driveway. The other is by the dam but thats all the prevailing wind allows you to hunt. Seems like they cross or drink at the dam. I walked the edge quite swampy with a hundred foot bowl in every direction but the dam and stream.

I remember a couple of these last year.

What type of trees do you try and cut? And have you seen a benifit?
-
So what stops you? To thick, wet, loud, windy? All problems hunting swamps and I have hunted them growing up but I'm going in blind Saturday to a new spot and not sure what to expect other then Google earth. Just a general question I know each situation is different.

Wow! Good luck I have a ton by me as well. Have you seen any during the daylight? I have a ton of pictures clearly hunting in two minute intervals at night and morning but few during shooting hours. -
The irony of this showing up the week I didn't have an SD card in. Moved the now working camera so he can have space next time. Any guesses on what size buck does that in a day or two?

I thought the WW would be the last thing the deer touch but that's where they spent there time last night. I have brassicas and oats in the same area but the oats are what they seem to be passing on so far. Also the WW was planted a month after the others and half as tall.

Went out from 1:30 till dark saw two doe. Was expecting more movement with the weather change. If tomorrow morning wasnt looking perfect, one of those mature doe was headed to my freezer.

A little rain goes a long way. The winter wheat was true to form. I seeded bare spots and were roundup was sprayed to kill ferns. I would say about 80% germination with no rain for 10 dats after seeding. I look forward to expanding next year.

Monday looks like a golden ticket. My last couple of hunts with bow will be Sunday thru Tuesday looks like the weather is going to work out. Almost no moon on Monday and Tuesday I'll be sitting all day for as many as it takes. Congrats on all the harvest in the thread.

I have an itch to buy a 12 acres piece of property with about an acre of which is a beaver pond. My question is being connected to a large ADK stream do I run the risk of the property being junk? If used strictly for hunting would this be a piece of property you would go after or avoid? This piece is surrounded by large woods which is a huge plus.

Which model? Hope that buck works out for you. Did any clear pictures come out?

Looks great!

Holy crap has it been a lot of work and some failure but I have defeated my fern problem. I planted my brassicas and oats later then most Sept 1ish and they are rounding into shape with only heavy dew for the last 10 days. The plot is spotty but working including my Dad shooting his first deer with a bow in twenty years! It's also the first deer killed in my own property. My dad's excitement after seeing the food plot attracting deer was worth all the hard work. Including dragging his damn deer. Once again thanks for all the advice over the last year. I have learned a ton.

Taking a shot in the dark but has anyone been to Metcalf or G lake in the southwest adk. First trip any advice? Spinners and spoons?
