Your not crazy. I have 6 on 35 acres and I could put at least 4 more up without feeling overcrowded at all.
-
Looks great! How long has that winter rye been in the ground? I can't buy a drop of rain, I'm concerned to say the least but what can you do.
-
This is what I have used in my new ab3. By far better results then the core locks. No hunting yet just sighting it in.

I hunt in Orange County and Oneida County. I will take my chances in Orange County any day with bear. However the last pictures are from upstate. My dad's friend shot one last year in Rosa Gap forrest.

Turkeys have setup shop. They make noise every morning I visit.

My oats germinated pretty well but I thought they were a bit behind after being planted two weeks ago? Brassicas planted a month ago as a test strip look awesome! I can only hope the oats and brassicas planted two weeks ago have the same success. Turkeyfeathers, I think we have a similar experience when it comes to food plots and it looks like it's working out for both of us.

Tad more then 1/2 an acre. I planted winter greens and pure attraction in quarter acre strips in two places. I only have pictures of one of the plots.

Have to love always resetting the date and time on those stealth cameras.
-
I have seen the debate on winter rye but I'm overseeing some clover and brassicas on Sunday. Any advice on seeding rate? Trying to help the soil and fight ferns, this seems like a good idea.
-
Just bought 120 lbs of winter rye today with plans to plant in Sunday. Easy to grow, just seed at a high rate.

Fertilizer recommendation requested

Just wondering how easily you could screw up a plot if you didn't do a soil test or just guessed what you needed. -

How easily can you over fertilize an acre? Say it calls for 240 pounds 15-15-15 and you put 400 pounds on. Would that promote any negative growth as far as weeds? Would the soil not germinate the seed? -
Thanks, I grew up in Alaska and since the 20 years I have left, I have never felt like I have been at home. Buying land improving it and hopefully harvesting a deer on my own land makes me smile when I think about it. It's cool knowing people enjoy the same process.

Yeah that's why I thought you might have been to Restaurant X. Just went to the culinary institute which isn't the worst spot.

Visit the Hudson valley and I can point you in the right direction. That is Grappa in Warwick, great service as well.
-
Thats just half the plot the other half which gets better sun was pretty good without spraying.
-
Yes. 3000 pounds hand thrown! I would hope the ph is raised by next spring but it was already 6.3. Two bouts of roundup and I still think they will comeback. This picture is after the first roundup spray.

Oysters with caviar and raw tuna. Amazing!

What's the latest you all mow or trim your clover? My fight with ferns hopefully will be over when I check my main plot in a week. I planted oats, brassicas, turnips and winter peas. Tilled it for the second time this year fertilized it and have my eye on the radar for rain. To anyone who might read this thread but not plant food plots, it instantly will improve your habitat and isn't rocket science. Thanks for all the great post over the last year to all the fellow board members. To see other people's success was inspiring last year and made me understand the correct steps to increase the value of my land.

Owner financing is available on some land. Higher interest rate but worth it if it's a couple people involved. Worked out just fine for me. 30% down no bank hassle quick and easy.
-
I'm on the same pace as you guys. All my planting is done. Hung two ladder stands and two climbers. Need two more stands to go up then I should be all set.
-
You seem like a food guy ever been to Restaurant X?

Anyone have an AMAZING Dry Rub Recipe to share?
corydd7 replied to t_barb's topic in Game Recipes / Cooking
Cumin chili powder salt white pepper brown sugar a little coffee. I'm on vacation otherwise I would send the ratio. Use mustard to hold the rub on, even if you don't like mustard it will cook out and you won't taste it. -
I've have had bear that is as tough as nails but also had "pulled bear" which was amazing. A good cook can make almost anything tasty.
