  1. Cornell ag extension is who you should call. They will let you know what's close to you and what they have to offer. I searched and searched for specific fertilizer online through local farmers and I could have just placed a 5 minute phone call to avoid all that. In Orange county it's Crop Production Services
  2. 20 rounds at 100 yards----- Light gun (which was a main point for me) safety is loud and sounds cheap. Spring noise will not cut it, I need to find a way to adjust it. A-bolt is smooth, easy to reload, no issues, no complaints, smooth and easy to use. Gun was accurate, little recoil, and fun to shoot. 20 rounds at 300 yards------ Wow after locking gun down at 100 yards we stepped it out to 300 yards the rifle was spot on. Adjusted 6 inches high with no wind and had a solid group. I wouldn't push it more then 300 yards. Was shooting 140 grain hornady. Awesome rifle for under $500 except for the safety .
  3. That atv might be worse then just walking out there. Jim Ward and a couple qdma guys believe in talking, dressing, and smelling like yourself until just before hunting season. I have 35 acres that I play on so for me there is no sanctuary. Would I have a picnic around my camera tree, no. Would I stay 10 minutes and sift through pictures and screenshot the stuff I like, yes. Of course it depends on the setup but for me it makes the process simple.

    No Fawns

These are from a very thick overgrown area so I see more fawns then most but this is 3m as West as you can go. I have seen more fawns in the last week then the previous month on the roads.
  5. I have had great luck growing clover on a new property but not so much with annuals. My thought was by creating a summer and fall plot I would provide more nutrition to the wildlife. Question is what are your thoughts and what would you personally go with assuming time and effort doesn't play into your choice.
  6. Add me to the list of fern problems. Has anyone tried spraying arrest max or slay? Controlled burn? I had about 30% percent success of what I was hoping for. Plot was an annual so I will be replanting in September. Looking for best advice how to dispatch of ferns but not by hand.
  7. If you have an Android 95% of them use a micro sd card slot. Buy a SanDisk SD card with adapter and as long as your phone is with you, just pop it in and when your done pop it back in the cam. One problem I've had is making sure the notch on the memory card is in the correct position. If anyone has had a problem reading a memory card that's the first thing you should check.
  8. Are those briars surrounding clover? Great pictures
  9. You can make it too alkaline but in N.Y. that wouldn't be the case. Also 300 lbs isn't much at all and it takes about six months to really add value to the soil. Fertilizer would be really important this year. Lowe's had 40 lbs ag lime for $3 a month ago. 20 bags of that should effect soil a half to full ph point according to my soil sample.
  10. We are on the same pace, this is eight days after as well. Clover and chicory already coming up. Same process scratched the surface dragged it under and had a good amount of rain the day after. So far so good
  11. I bought a threepack of p-14 last black Friday for $150. Most reliable camera out out of the five models I have. Simple not fancy at all but clear pictures cheap and reliable. I just bought a new Bushnell trophy cam E3. Like death from above said so far the big plus is camera and time lapse pictures at the same time.
  12. Thanks. Any thoughts on chicory? Nobody has touched on that.
  13. Those are some cool pictures. Great placement of your camera.
  14. Couldn't agree more and my cast iron is what I cook on everyday of the week. Simmer water with course sea salt
  15. Field and Stream and sportsmens guide have the best deals that I can find for most hunting stuff. Having an account for sportsmen guide saved me about $500 last year .
  16. Yeah I drive three hours one way most of the time by myself and only stay one or two nights. Still plenty worth it for me. My cameras are out and I have found deer trails from an area where I never realized they were cutting through. The briars get so tall now is a good time to scout for me.
  17. Is that a road near the top? How close, would or have you setup a stand?
  18. Tons of great ideas, posts, and experience but what would help me is understanding why people setup there hunting areas certain ways. A lot of great outdoorsman can provide awesome new ideas that only the internet can blossom. 32 acres clear cut 4 years ago. I own plot 1,2,3 in the picture below. 2 miles down a dirt road so plenty secluded low hunting pressure. I planted a perrinal in plot3 to draw the deer to the front of the property. Plot1 is an annual high growing as it doesn't have a ton of cover and I figure close to my cabin it would be great for bow season. Plot two I haven't decided what to do with so some Sunn hemp Sun flowers are my thought adding nitrogen setting up next year for corn. I'm 31 and have been hunting for 26 years from Alaska Texas NY Pa South Carolina but never an advanced hunter so reading all the input of fellow hunters has been humbling. Hope to learn a lot from this thread.
  19. I have all day brother. To me this is my vacation, I have been focused on my business for a bit and have rediscovered my love of being outside. You are right it's just a little bigger then 1/2 acre. Also thanks for the advice.
  20. Thanks guys. I think it's one of you two but what is the benefit of creating large brush piles around your plot besides marking your land? I say this because I have plenty of tops and would rather create bedding using these. I think stacking tops in thick briars would be better then just putting them around the food plot what are your tboughts?
