45 degrees & rain OR 15 degrees wind & snow
Bigfoot 327 replied to nybuckboy's topic in Deer Hunting
I'll take either one! This 80+ degrees and bugs here in Florida just kills my desire to hunt. -
Was it an accident? LOL

Many years ago I remember seeing 23 piebald deer in a winter wheat field. This was in Newfield, NY (near Shelter Valley Rd). This was in mid March and the snow was just leaving the hills. I remember the time of year because I was there to check on the rainbow trout run in Cayuga Inlet. Anyway, there were also 100+ hungry brown whitetails in the same field, but they did NOT associate with the piebald deer. I watched them for over 30 minutes and the two groups avoided each other. I imagine that's not the case during the rut!

Ammo Shipments On-line halted

Isn't this restraint of interstate commerce? -
I did before I posted! Did you?

The regulation you quote applies to areas where centerfire rifles are not legal during the deer season. Does not apply to most areas of NYS.
-
Perfectly legal to blast coyotes before legal shooting time for deer.

DeSantis has my vote. He has promised to sign constitutional carry if it reaches his desk.

This is all pending appeal. Blocked the requirement to turn over social media accounts. Did away with requirement to turn over data on everyone living with you. Eliminated the face to face interview requirement. Says that private businesses and residences are not sensitive places. OK's carry on public transport such as subways. OK's carry in Times Square. Allows carry in entertainment venues and bars! Probably several other things I'm forgetting. Undoubtedly this will be tied up in the courts for a long time.

Same study showed that black "children" were 4X more likely to die in firearms related incidents than white "children". Firearms are not the leading cause of death for white children. When my first child was born in 1973 my wife was 20 years old- the state of Hawaii considered that a "teen age pregnancy". WTF

When you realize that 20 million people in Florida have normal electrical service this meme loses much of it's intended meaning. Our utility here in central Fl is reporting zero outages- 2 days after Ian visited here as a Cat 1. -
Not just a background check to purchase ammo. Your info will go into a database maintained by NYS Police to track what you bought (caliber and # of rounds), where you bought it and of course YOU.

There is a FaceBook group called Steuben County Bear Sightings. It has 5,000 members. Pics and videos of local bears are posted almost daily. Robust population in the Corning area (including in town). I am surprised at how many of them are cinnamon color phase. Door bells cams pick up a large number of bears that would otherwise pass undetected.

I drive Finger Lakes to Florida several times a year. Avoid 95 in northern Virginia during daylight hours at all costs. It once took us 2 hours to go 30 miles. DC area dead of night is usually OK. I usually take the I295 bypass around Richmond. Don't recommend exceeding the speed limit there, area is often heavily patrolled with little speed tolerance (3 over can be a problem). Green Top is worth a stop (think ammo). I recommend Waze, good to know where the hazards and smokies are at. Happy trails!

For the record it's Treman (named for the donor of the land) State Park, not "treeman. Also, there is Treman Marine Park in Ithaca in addition to the SP.

I have a Leupold VX-3i 3.5x10x40 on my 25.06. Works great at the distances I shoot, but then I don't really do much shooting at ranges over 200 yards.

Trespassing and Camera Stealing Stories and Solutions
Bigfoot 327 replied to Five Seasons's topic in General Hunting
Years ago while scouting some state forest I ran into some posted signs that flat out got my attention. The signs said something like "Game Preserve", Posted and Patrolled, daily hunting rates are $300/day. If caught trespassing you will be charged with both trespassing and theft of services, in addition to being sued in small claims for the daily fee and damages. The property line was posted every 50ft or so and each tree with a posted/warning sign had a blaze orange ring painted on it. I wish I had a picture of the signs, they certainly got my attention. -
Probably not as big a "Yikes" as you might imagine. Totally legal to buy (for a resident) or possess a handgun without a permit in Florida. Handguns can even be transported without a permit, but the rules must be followed. Problems would arise if your NY friend "carried" in Fl. Totally, not allowed without a proper CCW. NY does not honor Fl CCW's, so Fl does not honor NY's. Open carry is forbidden in Fl unless hunting or fishing. Florida is a shall issue state and as long as the minimum qualifications are met, the CCW must be issued within a couple months.

That's it. I am using a slightly different product that also feeds the tree. Thanks!
-
The instructions on the BioAdvanced 12 month protect and feed call for an application rate of one ounce per circumference inch, except that if the tree is greater than 50 circumference inches than use 2 gallons! To treat one 20 inch diameter ash tree (works out to about 63 circumference inches) requires 2 gallons or $150 for one tree! No where close to $10 per tree. Am I missing something?
-
1) I bought last year's treatment at a Home Depot in Erie, PA. 2) $75 per gallon here in Florida, haven't figured out to do $10/ tree 3) May is the best time to apply as it kills the ash borer larvae when they are easiest to destroy. 4) chemical is deadly to bees. OK to carefully use on ash, but if you drench near a flowering bush (think rose) the chemical will end up in the flowers. If one bee is exposed to the chemical it can take it back to the hive and potentially destroy the entire hive!
