According to DEC , you’re not supposed to leave a stand up on state land after the seasons over so you could turn him in if he’s leaving it there year round .

Same here , although I’d like to start paying attention more to the wind , just don’t have the time and luxury currently , to make it a priority . Eventually , I would like to set stands in multiple places providing choice based on wind directions for during that particular hunt

Hey Guys, So I just started messin around w/ my new Summit Viper Climber ; got it all put together, received a quick climbing lesson from a guy in my club, but, I just realized a potential problem: how do you carry your rifle (or, bow, for that matter if bow hunting) when humping in your treestand? I saw that he doesnt use a backpack due to the climber on his back, so , goes in light but I never asked him that!! Do you have to just walk in carrying your rifle in one hand, or, maybe at port arms all the time? Seems like you cant use the sling while packing it in, correct?

In the fall , it’s always a good bet to tie on a streamer ; better yet , use a double streamer Setup

I truly hope that his case is mild and that He recovers quickly and completely very soon . This is crazy

Just saw your post and, ironically , I was just at Sterling yesterday to get my hunting tag and scope out the area cuz I’ve never hunted there before . Looked to me like there was good access to get into a lot of the areas that allowed hunting from 17A and 84 and also , from trails . So You can’t drive there , maybe From a seasonal access road , and park to get in ?

You think they Would they be effective while still hunting ? Sounds like not due to the amplification and lack of directional hearing

I bought a pair of Lacrosse last year and love them but they’re definitely not meant for long distance hikes . For warmth , I usually only double my wool socks , finding triple- layer actually seems to make my feet colder !!

I see ALOT of black walnuts in and around Orange County but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a deer eating black walnuts . Did a search on Google and came up with conflicting answers so I thought I’d post it here . So, Do you know if Deer will eat Black Walnuts ?

I dont know what theyre called but several yrs ago, I got one of those sound magnifiers for hunting, you know, the ones that look like an ear piece you see commentators use on TV. Basically, I was looking to up the odds in my favor , especially in think cover of filling my tag by increasing my ability to "hear" Deer in my immediate vicinty that I might not otherwise see. Again, this device would only be useful in thick cover situations; in open field , you range of vision is generally good so why use it? What I found though was that it was a PITA to keep seated in my ear and occasionally, when first putting it in once a I arrived at my hunting location, I would accidentally turn it on full blast and this huge distortion noise would erupt. Other than that, though, it seemed kinda cool. Anyone ever use such a device before? -Im thinking of buying another one. And, if so, did it work for you?

I agree; I think they are able, somehow , to differentiate noises associated with common human activities and classify as either “dangerous” or “not dangerous” in their brains. So, running a chain saw or plowing a field is a “ not dangerous “ activity because humans never try to interfere w them while engaging in them. A fellow hunter / friend of mine told me years ago that it was actually better to crash through the woods sort of wantonly and with abandon rather than creep quietly because the quiet creeping spooks the deer more . According to him, the sneaking form of motion is associated w danger as opposed to people just walking through the woods , say, on a hike and don’t care if they’re being quiet . I don’t know if this is true but I believe there may be something to it .

So I’m thinking of going with the Summit Viper for this year . Summits have the highest rating overall as compared to other brands and , after reading numerous customer reviews , Appears they’re very highly regarded .

You mentioned you like the hang on one and find them as easy and maneuverable as climbers ; do you feel safe in it? I’m not crazy about the straps on those things but it was yrs ago last time I tried one . Also , aren’t they a PITA also to hang solo? I’m sure they’re not as bad as ladders but still tough to deal with, and noisy too when hanging , right ?
