  1. Actually I just did some research and I found an old thread from this forum from 2011 where the guys were saying it is perfectly legal to establish and hunt over a public land foodplot .
  2. Yes , that sounds right Storm, I guess best way to find out is do some research and make a phone call to the regional office
  3. Ok thanks, I wonder about the 300 model that you hang next to your stand? It’s supposed to block your scent and give you that edge; since ozone is denser than air , I imagine you hang it high and let it drift down to you , any one ever use that model?
  4. Ok that’s a good price compared to those ones you take out into the field. Might be worth it to try one out
  5. Love squirrel hunting just don’t have the time to do everything I love , maybe this season I can squeeze in a hunt or 2
  6. Cool how much was the throw n go if you don’t mind and how does it work basically?
  7. Yes I agree , IF I did it, I would find a spot deep in to reduce the likelihood of that occurring although there would never be any guarantee that I would have it all to myself for sure
  8. Yes, you’re right, you can’t till it! Just an idea but probably would be too much work anyway , never hunted Stewart, may have to check it out
  9. Have you ever used those ozone control devices I’ve been reading about in the hunting mags? Are they worth it to purchase ? Considering getting one for next season to hang next to my stand and was looking for opinions / feedback. Thanks so much
  10. Hey guys, I have NEVER planted a food plot in my life, let alone hunted over one but I was thinking about planting one sometime. My question is: can you plant a food plot on state land? Thanks Northcountryman
  11. For squirrels, you really don’t need to go out too far and deep to have success I’ve found so even is it’s very cold out, an hour or two out can usually yield decent results. Having said that, anything under 5 below maybe I’d stay home
  12. Well I definitely wasted a lot of time this year, got up late, didn’t go out if it was too cold, etc. and consequently got skunked. I will pay for it now having to wait another full year till I can do this again . Don’t waste time!!
  13. Nice thanks for the info, very helpful and informative
  14. Hey Guys, anyone ever hunt sterling forest in Orange County? Looks like a decent sized tract, wouldn’t mind checking it out if it has promise Hope everyone’s season has gone well
  15. Not having good season this year, still got the skunk on and it seems like I’ve been lazier and less focused than in years past . I have a new girlfriend I’ve been seeing that’s a major distraction but in a good way . Consequently, I’ve been sleeping in and showing up to my spots late, game planning is off or non existent etc. I really feel that when I’ve been successful in years past, I REALLY felt ready and super focused at the start of the season because I am NEVER lucky lol. Can you relate ?
  16. They can hear you if the snows crunchy unfortunately
  17. Yup I agree and she’s still there. I’m wondering if it’s all relative anyway. So, when temps have been consistently in the 50s and then drop to the mid 30s or so does that trigger increased movement? I’ll bet it does and that’s normally why normal wisdom dictates the sudden drop in temp and greater deer activity maxim. But when it’s this cold? Nope, I think they huddle up and wait for the sun to warm things up a bit before they move
  18. I agree but I think they delay breakfast when it’s real cold out, at least that’s what I’m seeing right now
  19. Guys; inbagged hunting yesterday am cuz of the temps planning on going today w a friend. Right now it’s -1 out and the Doe we always see at my girlfriends house is still bedded down. It’s 7:08 right now when is usually magic time on a normal day. Noticed the same behavior yesterday when it was equally cold. Then they started coming out well after 8 when the sun was out and was starting to warm up. Peak activity seemed to be around 1:30. I thought common wisdom is they have to move more when it’s cold to stay warm yet that is opposite of what I’m saying here . What do you think?
  20. Hands down I had the worst opening day of my life this past Saturday, check it out: So I got up early , was the first one out of camp, had all my gear , everything seemed good. I drive out to my spot , hike in , find my stand , get settled and check the time. Cell phone read 5:59 am and still pitch black so I was good. Then I settle in and wait for magic time. One thing I noticed on my stand though was a note wrapped in plastic and affixed with plastic pull ties, it said: This is an active blind area , please move your stand immediately, thanks! Im like, screw that! I put this up in August , been checking trail cams every 2 weeks and never saw any other activity or stand , not moving! So, about 6:30 2 dudes show up, one of them says “Yo” I’ve been huntin this spot for 37 years , you need to leave, didn’t you read the note?” I said “ yeah, but i never saw anything here and I’ve been here sine August and it’s public land anyway “ after that, he started cursing and yelling which angered me and I replied in kind and we were both really loud and I’m sure scared anything within a mile for hours . All he kept saying to me was “ you should have seen the blind, you need to have good hunting etiquette tonwhicj I replied “ I didn’t see anything here so I thought no one was using it! “ Anyway, I finally left cuz I figured it wasn’t worth it anyway Did I do anything wrong? Thanks
  21. Shit , I figured, I’ll be up tonite
  22. Gettin ready myself; went to the range Saturday to sight in my 30-30 was 3 inches off to the left till I adjusted. How does that happen in between seasons I always wonder
  23. So if you could control the weather, what would be ideal for you in a couple of weeks? This is me: Temp: around 35-40 Wind: None to slight Slight snowfall the day or two previously
  24. You’re right , wouldn’t work at all for now cuz no room to draw in there. I only hunt with a rifle right now but maybe someday will pick up a bow
