Swamp_bucks

Looks like I might have snow for some tracking. If i do I'll give up a couple hours of sleep thursday morning and i will be going into where those big rubs are to see if i can get on him. Will do the same friday afternoon if the snow is still around.

Trying to get my group together for saturday drives. 50 degrees chance of rain. All have buck tags and doe tags so if we can get on them they will be in trouble.

Personally I would of shot him. But if you think hes got a good chance at living it would be nice to see what he would be with both sides.

I've seen it before during early november. Just never witnessed it be that intense this late or realize it gets that way this time of year. I realize they continue to cycle a couple times so they will still look for them. Theres not a ton of bucks in my area so not used to seeing it like that. Either way it was a cool encounter.

So last night when I went to start my truck for work. I walked into a full blown rut craze. At one point had 2 8s run a doe right down my driveway 10yards from me. I watched those 3 stop and over the hill in my woods(only an acre) i could here even more running around. The 2 8s I saw were grunting and atleast 1 more over the hill. I've never seen rutting this hard this late. So for you seasoned hunters on here. Can the second big rut wave be more intense than the first? Is there a better chance to draw in more big bucks because the little ones are worn out by now? I ask because my opening day spot from my door is maybe 400 -500 yards away. So those deer can very easily reach it. This is the closest I can get to hunting this area. Granted I cant get out till this weekend but I wonder if I should try one more time there. Thoughts?

I prefer the real trees but my daughter's allergies say otherwise so we bought a nice fake one a couple years ago. Fake snow and all. I'll take a picture tomorrow. My wife gets me scented pine candles and scentsy stuff so I get the pine smell.

Damn deer. Step outside to start my truck theres 2 8s running a doe in my driveway and a bunch more running in my woods. They were grunting up a storm like it was November 1st.

Welcome

Well I saw a deer, actually a spike/small basket maybe. Definitely had antlers. I jumped it out of its bed. I had one hole and let her rip swing and a miss. However does anyone have a recipe for sapling? It didn't go anywhere. Rather have a clean miss then a bad hit. Did get bad news the property I hunted today I've had sole permission to hunt and run the property. Today I found out the last 2 years they've been letting everyone and there brother hunt it. Its only 20 acres of wood 15 meadow so it doesn't take much to get over hunted. One hit an 8 and lost it last week and another shot one out of there truck. So after this year I wont be hunting it anymore. It's a 45 minute drive. Not worth it if it's getting hunted that hard. It explains why I haven't seen a deer since october there. I get it it's there property but a heads up would of been nice. They are family friends so I'll just go visit them and not worry about hunting it.

Up I have to be out the door by 5-510 this morning. 45mins drive really hoping to see one today.

My wife likes getting our oldest daughter snowglobes every year. I asked her if they made a one with a dumpster fire for in it for her 2020 one.

Christmas shopping is all done, I'll bring down the tree and decorate tomorrow after I get out of the woods. Then mama gave me full permission to hunt as hard as I need want to fi ish out the season. I'll have 4 tags available at the spot I'm going tomorrow so anything minus a fawn should be worried

Be out tomorrow morning hoping to catch something coming off the agg fields. Haven't hunted my private piece much waiting for late season. I can also take does there.

Very very quite this morning

Made it to the stand undetected I think. First time all year I didnt get turned around on the hill. Sitting until 1030 then mama wants to head to Binghamton to do some Christmas shopping. So hopefully deer down by 730 since it takes 3 hrs to get them out. She gave me until 1 at the latest to leave from home since she knows if I get one at 10 I won't be out by 1030.

Up nice to see no rain in the forecast. I'll be sitting in my opener spot. Will probably be my last sit there for the year. Not being picky first legal bucks in trouble. Goodluck to those going out today.

I second the hang on and sticks. Yes you cant go as high depending on sticks but can be up 12 feet in any tree in minutes. I keep the stand on my back walk up the tree putting sticks on as I go. Leave the sticks hooked to me so they are easy to get to. Then just pull the stand off my back set it up get into the stand and pull up my gear that's attached to a rope that's tied to my harness. My hang on is just a cheap stick and stand I altered and lightened up. I would love to have the newer lone wolf assault. I may be wrong on title but the sticks connect directly to the stand and have a very low profile. They are very expensive. Just takes some practice. Climbers are good I've used them alot and my vote for a climber would be the summit.

Going in the morning to my opening day spot. I know theres a couple bucks left in that chunk of woods. From here on out any legal bucks in trouble. Don and tree guy congrats on some great deer.

Deer are teasing me now. Just got home from work and theres fresh deer tracks in my lawn. One has a decent track. Wife said I cant go through the neighborhood tracking them so off to bed I go.

Wish I was out good luck to those going. Hoping to be out saturday and sunday morning.

I guess it could work. Deer like to circle back most of the time. So I could see this working.
