  1. They were out feeding on my way to my sons daycare and it's been snowing here for a couple hours already.
  2. If you get snow do some still hunting. Take your time keep your head up and be ready to shoot quick. Nice thing with the snow they stick out so you have a great chance of seeing them before they see you. If there not hitting the fields until after dark set off the field more or you need to go after them.
  3. With the cold and this snow they will start to get up earlier to feed during the warmer parts of the day. Weather it's natural browse or ag food plot. They will need to start packing on the fat especially the bucks. They wont bed far from the food either.
  4. Yea i keep hearing 8-12 in Norwich area. Get what we we get.
  5. Nice looking gun. Love lever actions. How much does she weigh? Hopefully next fall you can pose with that and a huge bear.
  6. Hoping for some snow this week and going with the ml. I have a couple pieces of stateland that have corn next to it. So my hope is the deer have calmed enough they might be willing to get up and feed during daylight a little bit.
  7. Well my 2020 gun season is done. I'll be back out for next weekends ml. Walked about 25miles this gun season 10 yesterday alone. I missed a small buck on the run last weekend. Only laid eyes on 6 deer all gun. 2 running, 3 at last light and one on the walk out. Not my best gun season at all but not my worst. 2015 I saw 1 deer on the last drive of the year. The older I get the more and more I enjoy gun less. I realized this year I am a bow hunter at heart. Deer are still in my spots they just out got the better of me. Found a spike horn buck that was gut shot. No longer have my private spot to myself like I thought. So I'll be knocking on some doors this spring and winter to see if i can get bow hunting access. Going to see what I can do. Ide like a spot I can put a food plot in for gun season to help my odds a little and just use my bow. Some highlights as I'm writing this my group took 4does no bucks. The best was my nephew took his first deer on his first opening day of gun. So everyone now between gun and bow has meat in the freezer which is very important for them and myself. Some pictures from my 2020 gun season.
  8. I forgot to mention I will be using my uncle's 16gauge pump. It was handed down to my dad and now me. Little heavy but it shoots great. I'm hoping in the spring to pick up a springer spaniel and figure out a way to train it to hunt. Then get a 12 or 20 over under.
  9. I will be out big time this year also. One thing I did find out this year during gun was a very healthy flock of grouse on a piece of stateland. I usually only go once it snows I have a hard time leading them with the gun without the snow in the background.
  10. Well not a good day. 10miles hiked jumped 1 deer no idea what it was. Saw 2 squirrels and 2 grouse. 2 guys bailed on us just no calls or nothing. Not a good day at all. Tired sore going to bed soon might be up early and go hunting tomorrow morning. Not to motivated after today. No one saw a deer until we pulled in my driveway and there was a doe.
  11. Whatever it is it doesn't seem to care that the dogs that close.
  12. Up and ready waiting on the guys to show up so we can put some miles on. Goodluck to those still holding tags Anything legal is in trouble have a bunch of tags one guys never killed one so we are trying.
  13. Yep when I started it was one big unit. Doesn't make sense to me. I can get at least 1 dmp for 7m every year and I haven't got a 7p in 3 or 4 years.
  14. I'll second that. Theres alot of nice deer taken out of the county. Just remember if you do chenango theres 2 regions split by the chenango river. 7p,7m and there is a big difference in how doe tags are given out.
  15. Yep, if as long as it isn't little tiny tiny fawn I'm shooting it.
  16. I saw that to should be good for ml. I usually dont hunt ml but when I have tags left its time for me to keep going. Doing drives tomorrow, sitting sunday morning and a forum members coming down for ml next saturday.
  17. Just got off the phone. We got a small crew but it's a crew hoping to get something moving tomorrow
  18. Well no buck. Coyotes beat me to his bed and not by much. Maybe an 1hr at most. Ended up walking 2miles took a little bit to find the track. Maybe 3 fingers wide I've seen bigger. He was with a fawn and doe based on the other tracks. I found 3 beds on a ridge but I didn't jump them. I could see where they got up and were feeding away. Well that buck took me right back to the same spot as the last time. I hung put for a couple minutes did a couple soft grunts and scrapes the ground. Then I went in after him. Slowly made my way to a spot I could cut him off if he was in there and wanted to escape leaving his track in the process. Well when i got to my spot i noticed running tracks a couple yards away. So I went to look and it was what I believed to be his track. So I followed it to the open woods where I just came from and thats when I noticed 4 different sets of coyote tracks running behind him. I called the track there. As long as the coyotes dont get him I know where to find him next year. 1st picture is his second bed I back tracked his running tracks to make sure he was bedded in there. The last photo the white pine in the back is right where his bed is. Other picture is of a stream on my walk out and a screen shot of my walk. Hes bedding in the little clearing by the pond on the bottom left
  19. My areas have been like a ghost town but that's not uncommon for me after opening week.
  20. This day needs to get over with. Snows soft and I'm itching to do some tracking this morning. I really want to say I would pass up a smaller buck because I know a big one is in the area I'm going. However any legal buck I can get on from here on out I'm shooting at if possible. Good luck to all those still grinding it out. Still 2 weeks left to get it done.
  21. I've got snow. Gear is ready for the morning. I'll be out of work by 630am and in the woods by 7 trying to find the buck I've named cedar. Same wind as when I jumped him 2 weeks ago plus there is standing corn 300-400 yards from that bed so I may catch him getting to bed. The name cedar is because all his big rubs are on cedar trees.
