Still get the rush. Buck fever not really i can get the shakes during bow season if a bucks coming in. Not really on does. That little bit of rush is what does it for me. Maybe its because i havent taken alot of deer or many big deer. But that rush is what i live for. On a side note most buck fever i have gotten in a long time was actually last year when me and my nephew had a spike come in thinking he could get a shot off on his first deer. Didnt happen becausr he was shaking so much his arrow was rattling.

I layed it out for him this morning at work. Told him i didnt mind helping if it was needed and not because he feels like being lazy like he has been or even some advice but he had to do some research of his own. But made it very clear he was out of line on the things he keeps saying and i wasnt hunting with him anymore we could shoot bows but the hunting side is done. And explained again that last year was to get him into it and not to hold his hand every year. I gave him some things to look into for info like youtube, forums like this, joining gun clubs, outdoor shows, ect. Tried getting it across as nice as possible that it was time to man up and figure it out. We will see if it sunk in. He didnt say much just sorry for how he acted a couple times.

Ive told him before i started getting ready this year last year was just to get him into it. But figured it wouldnt hurt to have him shoot and introduce him into more people that hunt. And once that started hes stuck his hand out expecting a free ride. I do feel bad for him didnt have an easy life and no one to show him really anything. Ill be reminding him in the morning how this is going to work.

This is what almost happend today. Im trying to help him get into it but its quickly coming to an end.

Strike 1) Well today as i left work a guy i took out last year for his first season made a rookie mistake among me and my friends. He looked at me and said i needed to get him a stand or give him one of mine(didnt miss hear him he sakd it twice). As you can guess that was responded with a quick no and that my hard earned money wasnt for his hobbies. 2) told me he was just going to show up to my lease whenever he wanted. 3) told me i was going to let him use my guns if he cant find a scope for his. 4) i have to drive him to scout his pieces Now i try to be a patient man and ive warned him about what comes out of his mouth may cost him. Just not sure if i can give out anymore breaks. What would you do?

Thats where im at just tell him if hes not used to this area that norwich is split in half for units. One half is 7m with 2 doe tag chances the other is 7p with a medium and only 1 chance. River is the line.

I have a CVA Wolf which is on the lower end but it shoots great and can get one for under 300 with a scope. Mine was 150 without scope picked it up last year for my first one and i love it. I know cva has alot of higher end ones also.

I have 1 ladder stand i use would like 1 more, ground blinds mostly during gun. But will be using a hangon and sticks this year to be more mobile. Have a nice climber but brother wants it so selling it to him he feels safer in them than hangon. Just a cheap hangon this year. If i end up staying with the hang and hunt ill upgrade stand next year.

Conesus teen wins archery IBO world championship

Thats great good for that girl raised right to be that humble after winning something that big. -
Got some shots in. Sitting on the hangon. Had better groups sitting then standing out of it. Deer is 30, pulled the first shot to the right, turkey 20 ,pig 15. Adjusted sight since i kept hitting to the right. But all those shots are using 30yrd pin. Without much change in point of aim. And thats what i was hoping for.

I dont have a rut stand. However if its a cool morning and theres an east wind. I will be at my lease in madison county(33acres). Put those 2 things together that first week of november and they are in there all day. Ive seen chasing, sparing, grunting, ect. Its so fast paced cant ever get one to stop.

Not good at the age thing. But i would shoot them if i could get over the fact i was looking at deer that size. Good luck that 8 is a stud.

I no my biggest tactic for atleast opening day of gun is escape routes. I will hunt wind i might not normally hunt because ive seen deer run with the wind at their backs just to get to the private land or thick cover. One good thing ive learned is most hunters are within 200-300 yards from parking or just off nice easy logging roads plus people are very predictable. Only time i catch people a long ways out is when they start doing drives then its just a matter of being on the escape routes. And like most of you said with stateland you always need a back up plan deer move fron year to year and so can hunting pressure. My number one goal this year is to try to atleast see a wall hanger on stateland this year. But learning how the bigger bucks bed is whats going to help me the most i think.

My friend that i was talking about this with loves 20ft plus. But hes lost atleast 3 deer at under 15yards because of that angle. Was it bad placement? Possibly but i think at that angle it doesnt help. If they were out at 25-35 angles are alot better for that height. But i agree it depends on person, cover, experiance, ect. Ill stick with my 8-12ft always worked for me i just try to pick something with alot of cover.

Trying to put more work into getting nice deer/more on stateland. It will be a long time until i get my own land. So trying to gey better. Ive mainly hunted stateland since i was 18, so 14 years now and i have taken 8 bucks granted small(minus my 8pt) off 6 different pieces that have heavy pressure. But my questions are if you strictly hunt stateland. How many different pieces do you hunt? How many spots per piece do you have? Does hunting pressure help decide your spots? Main type of stands do you use? I have 7 pieces usually averaging upwards of 5 spots per piece and dont really worry about pressure until crossbow. My main source of scouting is done on the Huntstand app on my phone befote i put boots on the ground. And my main stands are ground blinds and was climber but will be adding a hangon with sticks to be my main stand. I like to be .5 miles plus in but have some spots i could spit on the road.

Cant wait to follow this again. Hope everyone enjoys themselves. -
Only have a little left to watch. Thanks for posting hope to be able to put some of the info to work. Especially the little detail stuff he talked about

We have a chunk of stateland that has a ravine thats really deep so it forces them at the top where it starts to get shallow and they get pinched between the ravine and thick pines.
-
Ide say same thing looks like a ditch or something is right in that area.

The Hunting public has a couple really good videos on this. Show step by step how they scout and set points of interest before they go on foot.

Found another spot scouting on huntstand. I no theres good bucks in that area. Also alot more aggiculture. Going to knock on doors to see if i can get in from private. 2 spots looking at would be less then 100yrd walk on private. If not ide be looking at a 2 mile hike to get into that spot. Find out this weekend.

Yea i was thinking that after i posted it. Think im just going with the 3 for now and putting money towards a linemans rope to be safe while setting the steps.
