Help!!! New hunter this season -- haven't seen a deer yet
Robhuntandfish replied to Hank's topic in Deer Hunting
Patience my friend. I have 50 hunts in and haven't gotten a deer. Now I have seen deer and passed on deer but have had several days of 3+ strings of no deer. It's a learning process. -

Hunt #49. 6S big buck stand. Light -10:15. Had a doe come in from cowfield behind me 2 minutes after I sat down. She walked right under stand and jumped a little from my pack. Let her walk out 6 yards in field put cross hairs on her and ....click...wtf.... So cycle a shell and she takes off. Tried to stop her with a bleat. She slowed down at 100 but no shot in brush. Found shell below me and it was dented....stopped at range on way home and shot two all was fine. Bad shell misfire. Grrrrr.....this is like the sum of my season this year. Hunt #50 7F lease 12:30-dark pine tree stand. Nothing. -

Hunt #1048 - all but an hour in the woods of daylight. Sat at opener in the am til 10:15. Saw nothing. Noticed one of the screws on my scope mount was not tight . Switched to 06- 11:30 - went back in and as usual right by where we park a tail and a big body off into woods. Sat at a nearby stand for an hour. Then went way to other end of lease in point stand. Lots of sign but no deer. Decided I would walk out early and slow as the snow is gone and it was nice and quiet. As usual deer by the parking area as I walk out. Doe. In laneway facing me. Take a shot it had to be about 90 yards. Think I got sapling. She def wasn't hit looked around to see what happen and trotted into brush. I of course check area and nothing. Will cai saplings tomorrow. Tough tough season. Bit of a tough shot off hand at 90 but done it before. -

I have shot a doe with them. Seemed to work fine. That was at 40 yards though. Lol. She went about 40 yards and piled up . Yup use the hornadys. Gun seems to like them. -
Headed out to lease in about 1/2 hr. Hoping for some "live action". Toting the 30/30 for some good luck.

Got this when I was 16. Dad went in for half to match me for my first hunting rifle. Hoping it brings me some luck . Good luck tomorrow. -
Big deer take increase this year?
Robhuntandfish replied to Steuben Jerry's topic in General Chit Chat
i am trying my best to keep the law of averages in place as I havent shot a damn thing yet! I may have to give back some of my venison from last year though just to keep up with everyone getting deer. lol. First time in many years i dont have one down by now. Glad it was a good year for walleye! -
also have heard good things about Nowers in Hamilton - I think they still do deer. Havent been there in a few years but remember lots of raves about their sausage . https://www.facebook.com/pages/Nowers-Custom-Slaughtering/897476390322674

Going with the 94 Winchester tomorrow and Thursday. Hopefully will bring me some extra luck. -
its for so many reasons but mostly its just who i am . I also have to add in fishing as they are basically one and the same for me. I hunt/fish because of the connection to my Dad that showed me how and spent so many days in the field and on the water with and it still gives me a connection to him. And a connection to my hunting and fishing buddies and you folks here as well. But it also disconnects me from the everyday troubles of life - of crazy politics and crazy people doing crazy things that just make no sense in this world. And all the issues that people have that in the end dont even matter for a minute. I concentrate on the task at hand that i enjoy and the rest has been blocked away. It is a challenge, yet relaxing, even if i come home tired and sore. Its what i would do everyday if I could in one form or another. I enjoy it from the prep to hunt/fish all the way to the table for the game i have taken. I enjoy the puzzle of trying to figure it all out and then learn when I dont and enjoy when i do. And i realize i am lucky enough to be able to do these things.
