  1. I was talking about Putnam County. Nobody is hunting 5,000 private acres. Even public is only like 400acres in most cases. I hunt 8 acres of private land. Some guys hunt areas that are less than 5 acres.
  2. Not 2 days later when they are that butcher and you just killed your deer an hour ago. They want to see the trail you dragged your deer that has all the hair and blood on it. Nobody is using 4-wheelers to drag deer out of the woods around here.
  3. I dont' care man. I am just telling you what happens. Most people who bait around here aren't throwing handfuls of corn down. They are using Texas-style professional feeders, which arent very easily hidden on small acres of property when DEC patrols it.
  4. Yes, I am serious. DEC was at the butcher again this year on Opening Day. If they have any suspicions based on the teeth, they ask the hunter to show them the kill spot. If you take them to the wrong spot, where is the gut pile? There are also areas around here where you cannot shoot any bucks on the first 2 days of the season. Those people risk getting caught as well.
  5. "I have no idea what his username is. I never asked but if he would like to be named he may feel free to chime in. Btw 100% success this fall so far on 30"+ rams!!!!" For some reason, I really doubt any members of this forum went and hunted with you. Of course, its 100% success rates. They are FENCED IN!
  6. Nice. If this buck was in Putnam County somebody who shoot him as soon as he ventured 500+ ft away from any houses. Some guy hunts behind my parents house with a bow. He stands in his back yard and is 500-550 ft away from the 5-6 surround houses. Everytime he shoots a deer it runs onto somebody's lawn or the street and he has to go knocking on doors asking for permission to track the deer.
  7. Never used, and probably never will. Maybe my thoughts would be different if I hunted a different part of NY State. However, where I hunt, the deer are not very aggresive at all, and I feel any scent could do more harm than good. Just my opinion. I just go un-scented. All my clothes are washed non-scented, I shower non-scented, brush my teeth non-scented, etc. I have had deer eating the bushes I am sitting in on the ground many times. Could have reached out and poked them.
  8. Yea it just happens to be a year with several hunting trips. Of course, I have to mount my first Antelope, Mule Deer, and Lion, especially since they are all trophies in my opinion. After 2 trips, 11days of crayz hunting, I will probably never go for a lion again. I won't be going for a Mule Deer/Antelope trip anytime soon either. My dad's room is made up of over 40+ years of hunting.
  9. Anybody ever shoot 2 deer with 1 shot by accident? If so, what do you do? No, this did not happen to me. I am just curious if it ever happened to anybody. Or if somebody ever killed 2 separate deer thinking it was the same one. I don't shoot does, but I could see somebody shooting a doe that runs away and dies and then a different doe running in front of the hunter, who shoots that doe thinking it is the same one he just shot at. Intsead, he actually killed 2 does by accident. Just curious of the laws/regulations on this type of incident? Can't see it happening with 2 bucks unless they were both very similar in points or standing right behind one another. I assume you call the DEC and they would come confiscate the 2nd animal shot or maybe even both? and write you a ticket for your violation?
  10. +1, and put your time in. You can't shoot a deer sitting at home or in your car. The best times of course are daylight and sunset but many people leave the woods in the middle of the day and they shouldn't. Once again, you cant shoot a deer eating lunch in your car or at home. Bring your lunch and eat in the woods. The other big thing is movement. Move as little as possible. When you do move, move very slowly. Even when raising the binocs, I do it at a super slow motion pace. When turning your head from side to side, do it slowly. I think a lot of guys get spotted by deer and the deer spook away without the hunter even knowing.
  11. Cool, who from this forum went? I haven't seen a report yet.
  12. Sweet Baby Jesus. Where's Groveland, Ohio?
  13. I agree. I love looking at the stuff I have mounted. All I have right now is a coyote, 2 whitetail deer and a porcupine. I always save all the antlers of all the whitetails I have shot.
  14. Yesterday (Opening Day), 750am. Hunted 8 acres in Putnam County - 3N. Passed up a spike and 3pt, then shot this 4pt. My 5th buck in the last 6 years.
  15. In years past if the DEC finds corn in the teeth of the deer, they make the hunter take them to the kill spot. Illegal baiters are then issued fines and pay the consequences.
  16. I assume these are jokes? No, he wont be mounted. I only have 1 whitetail from NY mounted. An 8 pointer I got in 2007. I think the cam might catch some predators. There are red fox, coyote, and bobcat in the area. The entire gut pile was gone by this morning my Dad said. I will check pics on Thursday.
  17. Thanks all. My Dad is hunting the same area. I told him to pull the camera when the bait pile is gone. I'm sure he'll give me the camera on Thanksgiving.
  18. DEC was at the butcher where I dropped my deer off. Checking teeth of deer for age and for corn!
  19. How about I saw a flashlight moving through the woods, hundreds of yards away, and it was close to 7am lol. 2 years in a row I saw this. Guess whoever it is, is afraid of the dark lol.
  20. I was in the woods in Carmel, NY. Watching an open area next to heavy pines. I could see through my scope out to 40-50yards well before 630am. With the naked eye I could see the 40-50yards just after 6am.
  21. First shot I heard today was 627am. I could see fine at 610am.
  22. Haha, actually the pics from Wyoming and Arizona are the only hunting pics I have like that. The only 2 times I ever hunted in such warm weather lol.
