    3N

get a full body coyote mount.
  2. Glad I didnt come across any bears while walking through the heavy woods in the dark with a crossbow or while hunting from the ground for 6 days in Clearfield County.
  3. Every single year I get 2DMP tags for 3N and never use them. I will give both of them up to you, if you or someone else explains the legal process. I can use my ML either sex tag for the crossbow.
  4. I couldnt disagree more. Based on your pics, a deer could spot your movement probably over 100 yards away. I hunt open valley between thick pines. By the time a deer can see me, he's only 50 or less yards away. Many times I have had deer eating the bushes I am sitting against. While be limited in a tree stand with a gun? I have seen deer out of range or in a spot that didnt present a spot, so being im on the ground already I can sneak to a better spot and make the shot.
  5. very white antlers....nice buck.
  6. If you need meat, I have an extra DMP tag for 3N (Putnam County). I never shoot does.
  7. Is that Elmer Fudd's shotgun? lol. Never participated in a deer drive and never would.

    The Drag

agreed! Thats why I enjoy hunting nyc watershed property. No vehicles or atv's allowed. So if you go far enough in there aren't many hunters since they cant make it in and out. NYC reservoirs in westchester, putnam, and the catskills dont allow motors on the row boats and its great, it limits the pressure of fishing on these great fisheries. If you cant walk through the woods to your boat, and then row a few miles, you cant catch fish the big trout!

    The Drag

Never seen a quad or cart used in my life. If you're old just take your time. You already got the nice buck, no reason to kill yourself dragging. Just grab the antlers and drag 10-15 feet and stop. Walk ahead 10-20 yards, put your gun down, jacket, etc. walk back and drag your deer and repeat over and over again for a mile or however far you have. Who cares if it takes you 5 hours to get the deer out. My Dad is 58 now, and is 5'6" 145lbs, hes dragged close to 30 whitetail bucks out of the woods by the antlers, some over mile drag. he has bad hips and lower back. If you take your time it can be done. I heard the drag rope for $15 is pretty good.
  10. right, because westchester archery is still open, and the tag says bow/ML........but a bow/ML tag cant be used in putnam right now because neither season is open.
  11. Just bought a place too. Have enough hunting/fishing stuff. Will be asking for a bunch of housewarming gifts.
  12. Pretty simple. Regular season tag during regular season. ML tag during the ML season.

  15. Thursday (Thanksgiving) - 11/24/11 Thanksgiving morning, hunted the same private 8 acres in Carmel with my Dad. Got to my spot at 6am, sat about 20 yards from my Dad so he could overlook another valley for me. Beautiful cool morning, low wind, but didnt see anything by 9am. Walked over to my Dad and he said at 8am he saw 2 full size deer far away and couldnt see what they were. Knowing I could only hunt till about 1030am or so, I told my Dad I was going to take a slow walk down a trail and see if I could catch a deer bedded down. I was waking 2-3 steps then stopping/looking, continuing this pace till 925am when I saw a deer running above me near the top of a hill. As the deer ran across the hill, he had no idea I was there, something else must have spooked him. I realized he was a small buck and about to be out sight, I let out a grunt and it slowed him down almost to a complete stop. I took the shot off-hand, about 40 yards. He shook and trotted away with his tail down, so I knew I hit him good. I then heard crashing down the cliff, and hoped it was him falling down the cliff and then the sound came to a stop. I called my Dad on the cell and he met me at the spot I shot from him. He then stayed there and I walked to where I thought I shot at the buck and saw some blood and looked down the cliff and saw a 3pointer dead against a tree. It is my 6th whitetail buck in my career and my 5th from NY. He will be good eating. So far a great year, as my Dad's 7 pointer was his 28th whitetail buck of all time and 25th in NY. I know there is 1 more buck in this area that I saw opening day, hopefully I'll get him with the crossbow during the late ML season. Heart-shot.
  16. Always hunt thanksgiving morning till 11am-12pm.
  17. Under 30 degrees and dry tomorrow in Putnam County....hopefully tomorrow morning will be the day!
  18. I'll be hunting Putnam tomorrow morning, tell that buck to wander over the border. Thanks lol.
  19. first getting out of truck not until 8am?
  20. He did not weight it, but my Dad who has killed 30+ whitetails in his life says he feels it was approx. 180 before being gutted out. I am closing on my place today and have to work tomorrow.....be back in the woods Thursday morning.
  21. heavy woods with lots of pine trees. we hunt behind houses, you can only shoot 1 way. across a stream is a hunting club that owns probably 100+ acres. I think they spook some deer towards us. I saw a flashlight from the gun club guys at 620am opening morning lol....not sure why anyone would get into the woods so late or why you even need a flashlight at 620am! haha
  22. any guess as to the age of this deer? just curious....
  23. My Dad took this big 7 last night > http://huntingny.com/forums/topic/7274-biz-r-oworld-2011-ny-deer-journal/page__pid__91811#entry91811
