  1. I would love to get my son some more woods experience this fall. He'll be 8 in October and is starting to get amped for hunting with me. I built those blinds big enough for the both of us with the idea that he'd be tagging along. After that, and in roughly this order: Make an effort to spend time hunting pheasant / rabbit with my father in law. This may be his last year so I want to make it count. (He's not dying. He's moving back to Sicily) Try to be patient and wait for the right deer rather than shooting the first deer within range. Take a deer with with my bow this year. Take the new .350L with me in the woods. If time allows, get after some goose this year..
  2. I'd be thrilled to shoot any one of those bucks. Knowing how many are in the area, are you planning to target specific bucks, or just wait until the first shooter comes along?
  3. Good call. Thanks for the reminder Chef.
  4. Glad to see it.. not surprised that it's not getting more press.. And ultimately and unfortunately, not sure if this is going to change a whole lot..
  5. Putting this one to rest. The electrician should be here in about an hour. I replaced the GFI, but that didn't solve the issue. Still no power to that outlet, and no power to the dishwasher, garbage disposal, or garage. I bought another tester and pulled the front off the panel box in the garage. I was trying to determine if there was current going into, or out of, the breaker. I wasn't able to get a confident answer though. I was prepared to dick around with it more, but the dishwasher backfilled and leaked all over the floor. Just what I need. So I called a plumber buddy who said that he's 98% sure that the plumbing issue ties back to an "air dam" and that it should resolve itself once I run the disposal. The lack of a dishwasher or a usable kitchen sink forced my hand though, and I had to call in a pro. Here's the other tester I picked up: https://www.lowes.com/pd/Kobalt-Electrical-Tester/5001424391
  6. Beautiful gun and a caliber that you won't be disappointed with. I run the 180gr Power Points and so far I love 'em. As far as an optic, I'm partial to Nikon, but with them not in the game anymore I worry about customer service / warranty issues. Also, the .350 is only good to about 200 yds or so, so there's no need to go overkill on a big scope.
  7. ^^ agreed to both. I bought the plug in type of tester. I'm headed back to Lowe's today (luckily not too far from the house) to pick up either a multi meter or something like what @sbuff suggested. I've been putting it off because I rarely ever tinker with electrical, but for the safe of just a few bucks it's worth grabbing one. I need to pick up a new gfi outlet anyway while I'm there, so I'll just grab both.
  8. Quick update - I picked up one of those receptacle tester meters yesterday. I tested it on a working socket, then on the socket in question. The gadget lit up on the working socket, but no lights on the bad socket. Per the instructions, that means no current is registering. I flipped the switch off in the breaker box, then pulled the outlet to reset the connections. I was thinking maybe i had a loose power wire. Anyway, I put it back together, turned the power back on, and retested the outlet with the same result, no power. Next step is replacing the outlet.
  9. It all depends on your budget and what you're looking for. As others have said, there are plenty of good bows that are very adjustable, plenty accurate, and won't break the bank. A Diamond or Bear will kill a deer just as dead as a Matthews for a fraction of the price.
  10. Tried this first. The results were shocking, hence the need for forum input!
  11. This is why I asked. I knew the forum would have some good ideas! I haven't had a chance to pull the plug yet to look at the connections. I'll take a break from work shortly and check that out.
  12. I don't have a ton of experience, but will try anything. I'll admit when I'm in over my head.
  13. House was built in '86, so not terribly old. As far as i can tell, the wiring is all original. The whole garage is without power.. outlets, lights, opener.
  14. Figured I'd ask the forum before calling in a professional. Sunday we lost power locally. Roughly 200 houses were out from approximately 12-11p. Prior to that, everything in the house worked properly. After the power came back on, the garage and the dishwasher are both still without power. These are both in the same switch in the panel box so I checked that, but that breaker did not appear to be tripped. I flipped it off and back on, but no luck. I know the upstairs bathroom has a gfi plug that's part of the circuit. In the past when the garage and dishwasher have done this, resetting that gfi plug in the upstairs bathroom has worked. I tried it this time, but doing so did not restore power. I then reset every gfi plug in the house, but that didn't help. I double checked the panel box again but everything in there still looked good. I thought there might be some forum members with more experience than me with stuff. What else should I check before calling in some help?
  15. I'm surprised, but not really all that surprised, to hear about Saratoga. I've spent lots of time at the track and on Broadway over the years. I'm glad you were able to get your daughter out unscathed. Most of my family lives in that area.. Saratoga, Balston Spa, Malta, Schenectady, Scotia, Burnt Hills, Herkimer, Rotterdam, etc... and for the most part they seem like sleepy little towns. Quick Shout Out for Iron Roost! Best waffle joint I've been to, and I love me some waffles!
  16. Hell yeah man, nice job! If I catch anything worth mounting, I'm still looking to send it your way for "training material".. don't hold your breath though. I've been trying to catch something worth mounting for 20+ years...
  17. I shot Victory micro diameters and loved how they flew. I was touching arrows at 25 yds enough that I had to stop aiming at the same spot on the target. I changed to the Victory Decimators this past year because I wanted to move to a heavier/stiffer setup. I'm still shooting under a 2" group at 15, 25, and 35. Arrows are around 525gr total weight (60lb dw, 29.5 dl). I can usually find them available in the fall for less than $30 for 6. I didn't but them because their cheap... but they fly great from my setup, and it doesn't hurt that they don't break the bank.
  18. I've always liked the Mini's from Ruger and this one looks great. Good luck with the sale!
  19. I was at my son's baseball game last week and we were talking real estate and this house came up. It sounded like the owner's son installed and maintains the course. It's cool, but what a pain to maintain for the new owner.
  20. I recall you sharing pics of this one over the years. Another great looking mount!
  21. Looks like a beast in the pic!
  22. I meant to post this a week or so ago but forgot to. I was in the DSG in Greece the other day and they had more ammo on the shelf than I've seen recently. I took a pic but it's not loading. They had 9mm, .38, .45, .30-06, .308, .17, 6.8. 6.5, etc.. and they were stocked deep in those calibers along with some shotgun target / small game loads. Between that and what others are posting on here, maybe the worst is behind us.
  23. I'm amazed at how curious deer can be in the off season. It's not always the case, but there have been plenty of times where they'll be in close proximity to me without getting alarmed. In your case, once 10/1 rolls around, is she a pet, or a target?
