  1. Gonna hang Christmas lights for wife this am then got rest of day. Meeting up with my dad and gonna push the brush for him. We usually get some deer when we get together and do that. Dust of snow on the ground so that should help visibility. Good luck all today
  2. I had new roof with all new gutters put on this spring. I had them put nice 2 step type gutter guard on too. Wasn't cheap but was told won't have to worry about cleaning them out. I never seen the stuff they used before but all my gutters are clean this year.
  3. Wish birthday boy the best and hopefully the young man going to Paris island gets one too. Best of luck to you all. Smaller drives like that are my favorite however large drives with lots of people gets the blood flowing especially when the shooting starts. Love all types of hunting including alone.
  4. Muzzleloader season is great. Do a lot of still hunting and usually have snow. So far no snow in 8y and 7r where I hunt Hopefully that changes by next week. I got 3 days for muzzleloader hunting this year.
  5. How does everyone dispose of their deer carcass. I take mine to the landfill. I do not put it out on land I hunt cause it doesn't belong to me nor do I want to encourage predators to be there. Curious how others do it.

  7. I lost hunting land in a similar situation. Farmers son moved back home. Granddaughter and her husband did also. And a grandson too. Built 2 new houses, brought their friends and family. All with brown it's down mentality. They had success first couple years. I kept moving and giving up spots I was hunting as they discovered them. Hunting got slower and their success declined. I continued to get a deer or 2 and with that started the jealousy. I am no longer allowed on the land. It sucked at first since I had hunted there for over ten years however it made me pursue different avenues. I sent out letters to land owners for permission, had coworkers with land allow me to hunt, found a hunting buddy with same mind set, got family members who got old and no longer hunt but allow me to. Looking back made me better at the game cause now have different situations to hunt and find deer. Alot of people will give permission to hunt their land for a little of your time if asked. Good luck and hope it works out for you
  8. My father got me with that last year. He had a large set of horns he had dance in front of mine. He and our buddy had a good laugh at my expense. It was pretty funny
  9. Wolc123 said he has a muzzle/bow either sex tag left. Didn't that get used on buck with crossbow? Also said reg. Season buck tag can be used as either tag during muzzle/bow? Did I misunderstand that?
  10. I think your right. Love hunting. Try to get along with everyone and once in awhile get to meet a cool old dude like that. Prior to today I been hunting 17 acres there on that hill. Now wow. I am am gonna take some meat to him with a Christmas card to say thanks. All my hunting opportunities come from situations like that. You never know who the guy on the side of the road with a flat tire you stop to help maybe for example. I have over a thousand acres of private land with access to because of situations like this. Hunting season is all year long and in my opinion access is key.
  11. Seen nothing this am while hunting, however ran into neighbor who owns land I was on. 87 year old man hunting alone and he gave me permission to hunt his 300t acres. As far as I know he is the only one who hunts. That was awesome.
  12. Easy morning for sitting. No cover noise for still hunting. Squirrels are busy this am. Sitting in 8y. Got a doe tag given to me. Seen nothing yet. First shot heard. 9 22
  13. I use jerkey gun and food dehydrator. Awesome and easy. I get the cracked pepper mix from bass pro shop.
  14. I Think we are responsible for this nonsense cause we sit hear reading and responding. I need a life cause this is what I am doing while my wife cooks dinner. I guess I should get something done too. Thanks for the laughs folks( was gonna say guys but that's not politically correct).
  15. Less hunting pressure over the last week. Not many people will be out this weekend. Most have either got one or gave up however warmer weather does get a few more people out in the woods. I find late season better cause more natural deer movement however warm weather won't help. If your cam is near your stand they got you patterned. Move a little closer to bedding area and you will get one. Based on your times I would not hunt till evening. The deer are there if your getting pics. Hang in there.
  16. 1rst was 2010. Second was 2012. 11 point was my son's first time out with me shot on 28 acres my dad owns. 2nd was shot on my grandmother's land while I was still hunting. About 10 miles apart both chemung county
  17. All camo with bow.break out woolrich checkered jacket during gun. Boy that is heavy when wet. Have matching pants too but doesn't feel right hunting with them. Feel like wearing sweatpants and look like elmer fudd.
  18. Best day was 11 17. My dad and brothers birthday was 11 18. Me them and a good friend turn my father's house into hunting camp the night before opening day of gun. We have a few drinks and tell stories that always get better every year. Memories that never will be forgotten. My worst would be the last Sunday of bow. Wounded the largest buck I would have ever gotten and never found him.My largest to date would be 142 and 3/8 taken 7 years ago with my son with me. Anticipated arrow drop which didn't happen, and over estimated distance. Caught him in a golden rod field which I jumped him in the week before but he seen me first then. I came in another way the next time and he was there. I aggressively grunted at him and he came in looking for a fight. I hit him high he ran about a hundred yards then stopped and starred at me still looking for the other buck. When I started to reload the crossbow he walked away. Found 4 inches of fetching where he stood looking and that was it. Shot was maybe 35 yards but I overestimated distance where he was. About 4 hours later with help from friend and daughter we jumped him out of a bed and watched him runaway strong. We found little blood in bed and after another 3 hours called it off. Replayed that hunt all night long and got very little sleep
  19. I do not use any deer urine scents come gun season. I play wind and go deeper into the woods come gun season. Bow season for me is more observations and locating the deer. I do not like to jump deer with bow and watch them go to land I do not have access too. By the time gun season comes I tend to have deer movement pattern down pretty good which makes gun season successful for me. If people get them moving deer still use routes they feel safe on.
  20. After seeing others on this sight recommending sawyers I bought some cause the first month I was always getting ticks when hunting. Treated my clothing and no issues since
  21. While hunting today I came across fresh scrapes and a rub. Rub still had shavings from tree on ground
  22. I go off the stand. If it bothers them or not I don't know but I do know if they are downwind regardless of what we do they will scent us and be alert or simply stay away.
  23. In a stand in 7r I haven't sat in all year. Leaves off beech brows so can see now.
