  1. Yeah i hear stories about that all the time its sad really that a deer could ruin a friendship. Had a frind get a pope n young 10pt off my land a few years back when we went to a club meeting and he was showing the pictures off i had several club members pull me aside and say guess you won't be letting him hut your place anymore and they were serious! I told them i didn't invite himup to hunt with me not to shoot a deer, and i hope he shoots the next world record off my place! I am fortunate to own my own land and get a few good bucks off it myself. Had my uncle who doesn't hunt with me tell me i should put in ar's so i could get a big one every year! I like the guys i hunt with and even had one of them tell me i should put ar's in place to get big ones all the time, i told him i could do that and get one every year but he,his brother, and father, not to mention 3 or 4 other friends would probably not be allowed to hunt there as less pressure would lead to better hunting....seemed to stop the ar talk... I let the people i hunt with decide what they want to shoot, i do send them pics of the better bucks i have on trail cam so if they decide they want to hold out for a better buck they know what is out there. Seems to work for us and everone remains happy and friends.
  2. We hunt 274 acres, the neighbor to the north only hunts 5 days a year and he has 254 acres usually never shoots doe, no permission to hunt there. The neighbor to the south has 150 acres and hunts by himself usually getting 2 doe and a buck. I have the only food plots/ ag fields for about 2 miles. If my neighbors would start to take more deer i would cut back on what we take, but i don't see it happening any time soon. Since we started hunting doe hard we see more and larger buck...why i'm not sure i think the doe are fewer and the bucks have to travel to find one thats ready to breed? My neighbor to the south sees less deer than 20years ago when he tells me herds of 40 plus doe would run by and he would have to find the spike running with them to get his buck, but bigger bucks and took his best this year in over 45+ years of hunting, he also allows me to plant some of his fields into food plots/hay mixes which he benifits from selling the hay, and i feel benifit the deer herd. There are times when the dec releases the total take town by town that my group has taken a full 1% of the reported take in my town... i really don't think that many people report their kill, and the numbers are way off. So i just try to control the deer in my neck of the woods, and have seen forest regrowth that use to be severly stunted when i bought back in 93' and best of all a good group of guys i hunt with having fun and still getting "their deer" with out ar's or anything more than the state mandates.
  3. It's great your willing to keep an eye on the camera in the water like that! Mine would wash away.... Great pics!!
  4. I hope that big one didn't cast his horns and die.. Found a few skeletons thru the years with no headgear and huge pedicals.. i guess just they died from natural causes.. Cause he'd be sure fun to see in the flesh!!
  5. Looks like different day for last pic by the sky in the background..
  6. Arrow, a well though out concise way to express your belief! I personally agree with you i would prefer to see a seperate season for them before or after regular bow doesn't bother me. For the others you just don't want more hunters in the woods feeling that they would all be slobs.. that is just plain ignorant, a slob hunter will not put in the time and effort to get into effective range with a crossbow, i'm not saying they won't buy one, but either they will need to become better hunters, or they will give up and there will be lots of used x-bows for sale!
  7. I believe it is an old very pregnant doe..
  8. Lol!! Hey you never know ....Best thing about trail cam photos's they're like a box of chocolate you never know what your going to get!
  9. Laws were changed to make compounds legal! And for a challange that is your opinion as well they aren't legal now so I know for a fact u have no experiance in harvesting game with one... so let the individual decide on what would be a challange to them. Not tell them what is or isn't a challange in your opinion.
  10. Can't wait to see the mount!! lol.. I hope it makes the record book!!!
  11. I agree doc and antler, i should of stated it was the lawmakers not the dec that would waste our money... Most of the dec workers i have met and delt with are stand up people with their hands tied by albany!
  12. [*]Why do i need a new weapon to hunt deer with? The same reason i use a single shot blackpowder pistol, a challange! While you have your principled reason for keeping xbows out of bow season because you dont hold the weight and can have it pre-drawn. Remember Traditional archers hold the true weight of the draw! Compounds are up to 85 or 90% let off? I remember when that was cheating!!! And remember when to make pope and young record book the bow couldn't have more than 50%let off?? What about the release i'm sure 90% of archers use.. looks like a trigger is adjustable.. Cheating!!!Fiber optic and lighted sights.. Cheating!!! For those of you that think your going to take a deer at 100 yards with a xbow.. your dilusional. Shoot one they drop like a stone! same as my arrow does now! The bow hunters of this state are trying to move bow season to start oct 1st. Is it fair to the gun hunters? that we deserve a longer season because a bow is so much harder? The inclusion of the crossbow into archery season is coming as sure as our deer population is expanding! The name calling just makes more "fence sitters" who really don't care go to one side or another not because they are given informed facts and a rational discussion so they can support as an informed individual, but because they are sick of having a personal opinion jammed down their gullet! The same as Ar's and Qdm. If the majority want it do it! The vocal whining minority can still use there morals and make their own rules for their own property!
  13. All they need to do is change the metal used to make pennys... obvious.. but it has to be voted on and our representatives are to busy trying to get reelected to do anything useful....... how would that be for a re-election campain an easy way to save the taxpayer millions!!

  18. Wow, must be so upset they forgot to mention you pat! lol ;D
  19. Shooting a mature buck is a kick but that is trophy deer management, now if you told me you shot 2 mature doe, passed a few yearlings, saw a good buck but to far away, and it was awesome, i would say your practicing qdm! The thing i got from the article is that qdm is now known as trophy deer management. And because of the horn size craze what should be a fun/enjoyable time hunting has turned into stressful work trying to measure up to what you feel meets the standards. So in that sence i do not like ar's and feel that everyone should only compete with the game they are after. And like doc infers if your looking for big bucks find where they are and hunt them there! don't try to make an area a trophy area by forcing rules/ regs on others.
