  1. the picture of the illegal broadhead "remaing barbed" is a rage 3 blade, doesn't say it but thats what it is...
  2. I have found a few buck skeletons with huge pedicals no horns attached that i assume died of old age /stress through the winter. The problem with trying to get bucks to an old age is the the properties in ny are small and even though a buck may be 4 or older a 2year old that is extremely agressive my in fact be the dominate buck. I remember an article by charlie alsheimer saying something like that 300 acres may only hold 1 mature buck in a home range others may roam thru but not stay. And a drury video saying that a mature buck they were waiting to harvest at 6.5 left their farm where it had lived for the last 4 years, and was taken 5 miles away haven been run out by a more agressive buck.(due to wounds on the harvested animal). with the small size of properties and large number of hunters in nys, i don't see it reallying working at all here.
  3. Without it in front of me I believe the page was in the beginning under legal impliments questions. Yeah that's the only thing about the rage craze on tv seem to make you believe a 2in hole will make up for a bad hit.. . Same as muzzy trys to make u think it will go right thru bone and still be effective . Accuracy is it no matter what head you use...
  4. Nice! To bad he didn't start hunting earlier .....well at least now he knows what he's been missing!
  5. Actually in the hunting regs book they show a rage 2 blade as being legal and next to it the rage 3 head as illegal ....pretty cut and dry there! As for the 2 blade they work fine if you hit the deer where you should(vitials) I wouldn't count on a miracle blade saving a bad shot!
  6. Depends on what I get mounted deer I use bill mansell in lancaster(semi retired) for small game I used bob thuman lancaster(now dicesed). And ken mc murry in lyndon, for sm game and fish. Everyone has a speciality fish, birds, deer,sm game. The quality will show in what each does best. I had a friend who had a mount that he loved 9pt that I thought was junk looked good to him. Her then got a big 10 so he asked who I used. When he got his 10pt back and put it on the wall with his 9 he immeadiatly saw what I had told him was wrong. He now keeps the mounts in seperate rooms so the can't be seen together.. quality and a fair price will keep people comming.

    Leeks!

catskilled, joes pic is of wild leeks in full leaf, if yours look like a green onion you have wild onion or someone use to have commercial leeks growing there.
  13. now there is something you don't see everyday!
  14. Quick walk today yeilded 2 a dead spike from hunting season and a 3 that looks like it was tore out if its head!
  15. Doc, As the saying goes... You hit the nail on the head!
  16. Sounds like a good place! nothing around here shop wise. Do have a great neighbor who seems to have every reloading supply and is usually willing to part with what i need. I'll have to ask where he gets his stuff, i think mostly mail order.
  17. Do it every summer on the paleotology dig i go on. after a while it becomes like home. but i must admit after a few days a trip into town to the local y for a 2$ shower is a vice i refuse to give up! Even if it is 50 miles....
  18. Ah the beauty is even if the majority want it, baiting, jacklighting, ect and get legalized you still have the option to do what you feel is right. you don't need to do it just because its legal.
  19. Yes that is the problem, at least you understand it. there are many out there who will blame the dec for lack of deer,ect.. But do not understand surrounding land use, maturing woodlands, development, let alone their own intrusion into the woods effects their hunting experiance. I have a lot of small camps to the north of me that show up a week or two before the season hop on their 4 wheelers/side by sides and buzz around their woods hanging stands, scouting, just being invasive. Then then wonder where all the deer have gone? I can tell you into hiding!! A few days previous you could drive by and see deer standing on their lawns ...now tough to even see one at night. I especially like the argument that i've hunted the same place for 20 years!! There just are no deer anymore!! Well the brushy draw they use to hunt is now a mature woodland and the deer are now crossing 100 yrds or more further away since the cover the brush use to provide is gone.. I really don't see how the dec is supose to make a plan when they are trying to cover such a large area..
  20. I still find it amusing that people think they are going to take long shots with a xbow off a rest or otherwise... A twig will deflect a bolt same as an arrow... The lack of education of what a xbow can or can't do is astounding!
  21. I can't plant soybeans for the same reason. not big enough plot.
  22. Haven't found a tiller that can handle rocks yet, friend bought one for back of his tractor 5' wide told him we had to many rocks, broke 4 teeth first pass. My recomendation try to find a model that has automatic shutdown when it binds(strikes a rock) save you a lot of repairs. Maybe try renting one to see if it will work for you. If you have an atv or tractor maybe look at a field cultivator work great and tines are on springs either pluck rock to the top or will skip overthem, and are usually a lot wider 3' or more.
  23. I started another post in the qdm section to answer that..going to have to do a camera survey. I know that we don't seem to make adent in the population we've taken 281 deer since 93 of which 79 have been antlered bucks. Our 2 best years were 2000 21 total deer taken 8 were buck. And last year 21 total 11 antlerd buck.this is total for bow and gun and muzzleloader. This is with an average of 10 hunters. At least from my own property I do not see how the dec management areas can be properly managed they are way to big! I will also say my land is under extreme habitat management, making cover, foodplots, ect. You cannot see further than 75 yards through out most of my woods and can bowhunt within 50 yards of another person and never see or hear the deer they just shot. We do not drive deer and hate to tell you the number of deer passed up every year while bow and gun hunting. I have a friend who lives down the street who hunts at my place,he has 85 acres of his neighbors land to hunt but hunts with us because he can see more deer in a day than he will see on the 85 acres all season.
  24. I personal would like to see a earn a buck program, 1st it would create mandotory deer checks to have your doe tagged to get a buck tag maybe allowing the dec to get its hands on some real numbers to work with. 2nd There are a lot more deer out there than people think and it would allow everyone to get their meat for the freezer. No more paying extra for a chance a doe tag... 3rd , after the new numbers are accessed giving out a buck tag by lottery (like a dmp now) would create more revenue than dmp tags. or when you by your licence give random tags out for either sex. There are a lot of people out there who still get doe tags and never use them..
