  1. Sounds like a crabapple to me.. but if they were from seed they could be a cross of a few different types. Crabapples are about the sise of a quarter with a long attached stem that may or may not be slightly flattened usually the fruit has a waxy covering, true apples .have a short stem and are usually larger in the size of the fruit. the only way to get the same apple or crabapple tree is to graft, the seeds are the result of polination and who knows where the pollen came from? An example would be the granny smith apple it is a cross of R.I. greenings and yellow delicious. btu in the wild pollon can come from a number of distant sources(as far as a bee want s to fly) plat your trees within 50yards or so of each other or close to other apples/crabapples to ensure polination.
  2. I rember going to highschool inthe 80's and most guys had a sheath knife on their belt, use to take our bow and 22 to school to go hunting behind school at the end of the day not to mention rifle club in the basement ...not sure what happened between then and now... but i think that society is on a downward spiral.....
  3. Can skin a fresh kill in about 15 min..double or triple that if caping or if frozen....
  4. Tried to get out yesterday for a bit..snow still 12 - 18 in woods, fields are melting though..looks like a minor set back this morning but it was nice to get out of the house!
  5. This country is just to big for mass transportation, trains, ect. The oil company's act as a monopoly even though they are seperate. the gov should step in to break up price setting. there is no mobil gas in the northeast but there are mobil stations. they make an agrement with another company like bp to provide gas to their stations here and provide gas for bp in another part of the country....so stopping buying gas from one compant does nothing...the price is set by speculators and ceo's.
  6. too bad there wasn't a pack to off these idiots....
  7. asat reminds me of early skyline camo. If i didn't have skyline i would use asat. i don't care for mossy oak or realtree to dark up close. Asat or skyline are needed here inthe north!!
  8. some nice ones there! snow was melting off nice now getting hit again...4-6in tonight
  9. got these wild game cams for 40$ apiece outdated model, not the greatest ir flash but they work..should be good over scrapes, i'll keep the cuddiebacks on foodplots and trails they have a lot stronger flash.
  10. I roost birds about 90% of the time. use a can owl hooter, if that doesn't work this will sound crazy but i blow an elk bugle! extreemly loud causes a shock gobble almost everytime you just have to really listen as the will gobble about 1/2 way through the call, if i think i heard one ill call again but cut it short. It helps a lot to have another person about 50-100 yards away to listen even using an owl call as they will cut into that call as well. or maybe my ears are just getting wore out and cant't quite hear as well as i use to.
  11. picked up these cams dirt cheap, have to check the cuddiebacks tommorow..
  12. You say clear land mowed field or goldenrod?, if its really close to a bedding area they might be using it for cover as well(especially if its goldenrod). Check with your local feed mill/farm supply store mine does soil test for free on set days. you can always do your own as well kits are not expensive. I agree with split g2 clover would be good, after soil test just need to know if it will be dry or damp, and how much light it will recieve. you might want to mix in some alfalfa,or chickory depending on conditions as clover will shut down growing when hot and dry.
  13. i've planted it great for dry areas has a deep taproot. I prefer just a white clover/alfalfa plot myself especially if it gets enough moisture. Have moved away from a brassica mix and just go with appin or purple top turnips as the deer hit them during the season, i have standing corn to help through the winter.
  14. this weekend erie county fairgrounds march 11, 12, 13th
  15. still to much snow in the cornfield, south facing slopes melting fast....hope the weatherman is wrong and it keeps melting sick of snow..
  16. Get a 9mm if its going to be a gun your just going to shoot yourself, most law enforcement will issue you a pistol. The also get a good deal to buy a pistol that is the same as the one they were issued. For your price range and the fact that you want to shoot a lot a 9mm will do. Get the job then get another gun!
  17. My family use to own a farm in lancaster,ny got so built up around it that my parents sold the farm in 93'. I started buying land in the cuba are in 93' and have added to it several times. Decided to build a house in 2006 on the land i already owned, rather than buy a lot in lancaster for 40,000. Now i am in the woods 365 days a year!!
  18. funny you should say that i've seen a lot of bucks that look like that by the tracks in ashtabula ohio.
  19. I use my fathers old case sheath knife ever since he passed only on my bucks,I left it in the woods once took 2 days to find in in the snow. my other knife is a remington folding with a bonesaw and gut hook.
  20. tought to tell from a pic with their hair fluffed up trying to stay warm...i bet there is no fat left on anyof them....
  21. just an observation...democats put all these programs in place to help the people(never seems to work) get voted out.. republicans get voted in and see all the programs without funding and have to raise taxes to pay for them. so who is really raising the taxes?? jmo
