Camp is a forgotten thing since sat opener came into effect. Fortunately i have a retired friend who basically moves in for 3 months. Stories, Laughter, camp cooking .. so many will never get to experiance it..glad your giving it a go! Camp is always better with friends!

Brassica will burn out soil recommendations do not plant 2 years in a row in same spot. You were lucky you got good growth there.. nutrients are used up and not to mention the build up of plant destroying fungus and plant diseases.. rotate with a grain / clover cover " green manure " crop.

I try not to use a light at all . A shine is a shine doesnt matter what color . Clear my trail to stand and walk in the dark your etes adjust.. i feel bad for those that live inder street lights you lose your night vision living like that. Though it seems the current trend is brighter more intense lights on cars streetlights emergency vehicles.. all of which i find blinding.. tracking i prefer a good Colman lantern or good handheld light.

And the youth that got the big 8 last year took another good one today.!

When you get called to work for 6 pm and miss being in your stand where bear have been active only to return the next morning to find your target was there the evening before at 605pm... guessing it around 300 lb. Has broken limbs off fenced apple trees for last 3 weeks... grrr..

I will have 5 kids this year here most on sat then it drops off as some have other commitments as well as youth phesant hunt on sat and sunday over dogs at local sportsman club.. should be a busy weekend hopefully with lot of smiles amd laughter.

So i got home from work at 130 am was gorgeous out stars calm and spotty frost . Got to bed at 2 . Woke up 530. Perfect out hiked back over county line about a mile amd was in stand at 630.. at 7 there was movement behind me..its very thick and i could only see flashes of deer. At 715 i heard an appe being crunched in front o stand ..there it was 15 yard walking away. Dropped it with shot at base of neck between shoulder blades.. nice simple retrieve when i walked back to get tractor and my knife... i never take a knife.. superstitious. Plus i habe to get vehicle to retrieve it so i just get one then.. have 4 weeks off end of month and beginning of nov.. guess camp cook and turkey / bear hunting will be my niche...

Yes many times. Wind was wrong last weekend. Got home 130 am up at 530 in stand at 630 shot at 715... hanging in barn ..going back to bed.

Beautiful morning .birds are active hope the deer are as well
