I started waging war on the ones around my garden after they ate 17 of the 18 tomato plants we set outb last week. The one that was left had the main stem nipped off so it was a loss too. Shot one 3 evenings ago just 30yds from the kitchen sliding door & missed one down by the garden (about 70yds) the next day trying a shot W/O a rest. Here is my 200yd rig. A 5rmm RF Magnum converted to CF using a Shroeder bolt head & cases. Shoots 33gr V-Max bullets @ 2450 fps. Sighted in 2 1/2" high @ 100yds, it is zeroed @ 185yds & about 1 1/4" low @ 200yds. 1/2" 5-shot groups @ 100yds Groups open up to just over 1" @ 200yds Same energy @ 185yds as a 17 HMR has @ the muzzle & costs me about $15 to load 100rds. I use 6.8gr of Alliant 2400 so I get 1000 loads from a pound of powder. Cartridges are loaded to .015 off the lands so the 33gr V-Max bullets won't function through the magazine, but Shroeder 40gr FMJ RN bullets will feed 3 rounds through the detachable box magazine.

I form 8X57 from once fired Lake City GI 30-06 all the time. I do trim about 3/16" off the end before I run it through the die. After that, a few turns on the LEE Zip Trim & I have nice 8X57 cases. I wonder if the OAL is just too long?

They start popping here around mid May. Here are some from last year. The one above is in the picture below just below center along the right edge. -
There are a couple of spots on the north end of one of my hay fields where they perennially do that.

"Dawn" dish washing detergent & hot water has always worked well for me.

I took mine apart this winter due to a loose connection. The "vibrator" is a chunk of steel that must weigh several ounces mounted way off center that creates quite a shaking affect.

I don't even think they are available anymore. I had some issues W/mine, but a little "tuning" resolved the issues & it has worked flawlessly for years. the thing works like a recoil on a lawnmower engine. I had to add shims or something inside the mechanism, I don't remember exactly. All that being said, it's a quick set up, just insert the case head & bottom it in the shell holder. Turn the holder down 1/4 turn or so to tighten & it's ready. Insert the tool, give it about 1-3 pulls W/the trimmer, (you will see when it quits cutting) 1 more pull W/the inside chamfer tool, 1 for the outside & the case is finished. Turn the shell holder 1/4 turn or so & the case slips out. It's a lot handier that using a drill. IMO. Aside from the stud, it uses the same components as the drill set-up. I just checked & MIDWAY still sells them. I bought mine when they 1st came out 15 or so years ago so I'm sure the minor little issues I had are probably dealt with by now.

You can see how I set mine up just to the left of the press. That's the tub of Mica behind the powder dispenser, Left to right: Frankford Arsenal Vibratory case tumbler (STILL SOLD BY HARBOR FREIGHT) Wood jaw Vise Lee "Zip Trim Gem Pro 250 electronic scale Frankford Arseneal battery powered powder trickler Frankford Arsenal "Perfect Powder Dispenser" Franford Arsenal Mica Case Neck Lube Station. Frankford Arsenal "O" press I bought a $250 "package" from Midway USA back in 2000 that came W/most of the items listed & some others that are not. It was quite a deal at the time. Right next to the Nosler manuals on the 1st shelf you can see the green plastic sponge tray sticking out at an angle.(right above/behind the trickler) Just above that is the end of my powder funnel that comes W/various caliber specific ends for the case mouth that are housed in the light gray case. On the right are my wooden loading trays. The wood trays were discontinued right after I bought them. I have trays for case head sizes from 22 Hornet to 45/70. To the left of the funnel are my dial calipers (I like dial better than digital, no batteries to fail) in the red case sitting on top of my. RCBS hand priming tool. Various die sets fill the shelves to the left. I made my loading bench from a cheap computer desk that is reinforced W/2x6s under the vise & press as well as a 2x6 running along the back that is anchored into the wall studs.I added a drawer kit. (under the vise) The bulletin board & center (black) shelving was part of the desk & I added some more (pale green) 1x6 cubby holes & shelves that are also anchored to the wall studs. I filled the whole wall surrounding the center section W/6" track shelving.

I use spray lube W/a sponge pad applicator on the outside & MICA W/caliber specific brushes on the inside. Inside neck lube minimizes case neck stretching. I doubt that a case would get stuck on the expander ball.

I did a moderate pressure model & MRP wasn't far off the pace W/RL-17 & fared better than Norma 204 or Norma 203B The pressure W/MRP was very mild compared to the others. The case was filled to about maximum though & would probably require a drop tube & would result in significantly compressed loads. The 7X57 case capacity isn't big enough in relation to the bore to get the most out of MRP. RL-17 will be more efficient in the 7X57 just like the 7mm-08 & 8X57IS. 6.5 X 55 on the other hand as well as the 8mm-06 Ackley have the case capacity/bore ratio to utilize MRP. The same seems to be true of .243 Win & 6mm Rem RL-17 was designed for short magnums while MRP is more for the standard magnums W/larger case capacity. They both bridge any gaps in performance. I'm going to try magnum primers W/the RL-17 to see if it brings actual Mv up to predictions. W/standard primers I have to go 2-3 grains heavier to reach predicted Mv/pressure. I already use magnum primers W/MRP

You should try ML skeet. The doubles on stations 1 & 7 come out of the cloud of smoke & they are right on top of you before you can see them..

The surgery seemed to go quite well. It was less complicated than the Dr thought. I'm sitting on the living room couch as I type. Thanks for all the get well wishes, but this thread is not about my recovery. It is about being able to make progress during said recovery. Looks like I should be able to get back to getting some work done in a few days. For now, I have gotten to the point that there is no need to go out to the garage to make progress, plenty of "sit down work" to do.

Well sometime during a busy afternoon, I managed to take a sabre saw to the stub @ the butt & an angle grinder to to what was left. I use a flat flap disc W/inletting black to incrementaly rough bed the Neidner Buttplate. After about 30-40 minutes of work I had a pretty consistent black line around the perimeter of the buttplate. I was trying to use natural light coming over my shoulder through the window. Unfortunately, the light refracted off the fine lines left by the flap wheel & distorted this picture. Even W/the poor picture quality, you can see that I am getting a pretty consistent, nearly constant line along the perimeter. It is now time for some chisel work. I have everything laid out & there is a stone under the bench to hone these babies razor sharp. If you look closely you can see the little tub of inetting black on the anvil end of my wood jawed vise @ the bottom left. I'm going under the knife for some pretty extensive foot surgery in the morning so it might be a week or more before I get back to this. All I have to do is get my a$$ the the bench & everything is just about within arm's reach. Stay tuned as this will be my 4th "widow's peak" style buttplate, my 2nd Neidner style. it is pretty tricky, having to go both in & down as you go. I've gotten to the point where I get pretty good results, but if anyone can give me any tips to speed up this process, I'm all ears.

W/140gr bullets in 280 Rem you can't get enough of it into the case to get much above 60K. I used a drop tube & ran compressed loads @ 7mm Mag factory Mv & sub 1/2" groups @ 100yds. . In addition to the 8mm-06 Ackley, it should work extremely well in 6.5X55 & 8X68S. W/RL-17 & MRP, I can cover everything from the Krag @ 45K to the big 8s @ 63K. In the big 8s MRP will get into high pressure, but not W/O compressed loads.

I got the work bench squared away. I'm going out to the garage this afternoon to cut the stub off the butt & shape the end W/a grinder to prep for inletting the Neidner Buttplate. The toe is the most fragile part of the stock, especially when a crescent shape is present. I want the butplate installed to protect the toe while the stock is being worked on.

Note the application. It works very well in medium capaity cases W/medium for caliber bullets. I use it in 30/40 Krag, 7mm-08, 8X57IS & plan to use it in 7X57. It will attain about 100fps average Mv @ similar chamber rpessure to the old stand-bys. The Norma MRP has shown astounding results at moderate chamber pressure in 280 Rem W/140gr bullets & I am planning on using it in my 8-mm-06 Ackley.

I'd rather shoot 6 Ma-Deuces mounted in the wings of an F-4U, but unless I win a couple of hundred million in the Lotto, that ain't gonna happen!.
