I introduced a friend in S Indiana to deer hunting in 1982. Before he died he was stalking & killing bucks from the ground with self bows as well as arrows he made himself. I remember him telling me about a buck that got up out his bed so close to him he said, "I could see the fear in his eyes before he turned & ran".

A little off subject, but I would like to have one nice bearskin rug. I wouldn't shoot a small bear, but after taking one nice one I would quit. As for deer, I've taken a few nice bucks for my area & was losing interest. I took an average one this year with an iron sighted Krag that belonged to my Dad. That has piqued my interest & now I want to hunt with it rather than my scope sighted tack drivers. If you kill a really big buck with a CF rifle & begin to lose interest. Build or buy yourself a nice flintlock rifle, learn how to load & shoot round balls accurately & ad some challenge. They're still legal during the regular season!

Federal prosecutors generally must seek approval from "main Justice" — the Department of Justice in Washington D.C. — before appealing a ruling. That's so the feds don't make what they see as "bad law" by appealing "bad cases," and so the feds' legal stance remains relatively consistent across circuits. The Hammonds COULD have been sentenced 5 years for each offense served consecutively. Hmmmm maybe they knew they didn't have a leg to stand on & didn't want to risk a longer sentence. They were also threatened with a "less desirable" place of incarceration. The "state" has the option of choosing the place of incarceration I believe. These guys are criminals. Their own blood incriminated them and they endangered hunters & guides that were on the land.

Since it's a Federal matter, no. Ruby Ridge has given the feds some reason to proceed with caution, rightfully so. As far as the botched siege at WACO I think they know that when dealing with someone that is delusional it is not a good ideal to fulfill any martyr syndrome if present.. If it had been under the jurisdiction of some local governments with criminals & thugs in a "militarized" police department, yes, the outcome would have been swift & bloody.

It amazes me how modern day hunters are brainwashed by the right, primarily the carbon fuel industry, to act against their own best interests. We should be working WITH conservationists & environmentalists toward a common goal that benefits us all.
