Does anyone use powered scope
wildcat junkie replied to Borngeechee's topic in Rifle and Gun Hunting
The large objective lens pulling in more light is a myth. While it may allow more light in, an objective lens that is larger than the power rating by more than a factor of 5 will allow more light in than the pupil of the human eye will admit. The objective lens diameter divided by power is called exit pupil & an exit pupil of over 5mm is wasted. A 20mm objective lens @ 4 power will admit all of the light that the human eye can admit. (20/4 = 5) -

I had a 1-4X20 Leupold on an 870 for turkey & deer. It was so fast to acquire, that I tried shooting trap with it & actually did quite well. I think I broke 21/25. Mount it as low as possible & it will serve you well for a brush gun. -
More likely black color phase grey squirrels.

We should see to it that there is room for all of God's creatures. Right next to the mashed potatoes & gravy.

Wifey found these on May 18th.

I've changed a bunch of Mauser triggers & a few Remintgtom M700 triggers to Timneys. Not considered top of the line, but they are as good a triggers as most anyone will ever need. Adjustable for weight, sear engagement & over-travel. Capable of (safe) 2 1/2# pull.

I can tell you from personal experience that isn't true. We had both where I lived in Pennsylvania as a boy.

Reloader 17 works well in the 7mm-08 W/the 140gr BT when you work up to lightly compressed loads. I've been able to get right at 2900fps in a 22" barrel. Vv N550 is another good "high energy" powder, but it is hard to come by. The two will achieve nearly identical pressure/Mv in medium capacity cases. They both also work well in 30/40 Krag W/160gr FTXs (2500fps) & 8x57IS W/200gr spritzers. (2700fps)

I've heard that a high fox population indicates a low coyote population.

NY's Future Under A Fracking Ban

Seems like the religious REICH are the ones that want to regulate abortions. Seems that they want them right back into the back alleys.Waiting periods, counseling, shorter & shorter legal time limits, requiring clinics to have admittance privileges, etc, etc, etc. Answer this. If gun control laws won't prevent violence with guns, what makes you think abortions bans will prevent abortions? -
Well I can see why they ban rifles. It would be dangerous in foliage W/ hunters in full camo. In an open field where Mr Butterball like to strut it would be no more dangerous than shooting Grounhogs. I agree on the neck/shoulder shot being a much better option. The little 33gr .204 Hornady V-Max still groups well @ 200 yds & has as much retained energy @ 185 yds. as the 17 HMR has @ the muzzle.

NY's Future Under A Fracking Ban

How about Reagan when he quit enforcing the Sherman Anti-Trust act? That's what brought us Wallmart & consolidated banking into just a few entities that are "too big to fail".There's an example of lax regulation favoring large corporations. -

The light went on for me by the middle of Reagan's 2nd term. Unlike many working class folks that still worship him & his voodoo economics, it didn't take me too long to catch on the the world's most accomplished BS artist. I have to give him credit though, he had me fooled for a while. Quite the con man he was. -

And Mr VJP goes farther & farther into "another dimension". -
The turkeys put on quite a show for about an hour just after sun-up yesterday. Unfortunately, I set-up about 100 yds too far to the east. I set up just in from the edge of the neighbor's field to the south. 2 hens came across the field @ I think they went on the nest where I flushed them early the evening before. The 2 Jakes & Mr Butterball followed, but It appeared that the hens wern't interested. The little bachelor group soon went back across the field W/the Jakes sparring in circles around the boss gobbler. They were soon joined by another Jake. Since it seems that the hens are nesting, the Toms are really strutting around trying to attract some romance. I have a pretty good idea of where to set up in the morning to intercept Mr Butterball after he flies down. I'm going to try just a few soft tree yelps when he 1st sounds off, them clam up. He seems to be call shy & he hangs up about 100 yds out. If my 5mm Remington CF conversion was legal I'd settle his $hit in short order. I think I could do a head shot @ 100yds consistently. Here's a 5 shot 100 yd group. That was W/the 8# factory trigger. I now have breaking @ just under 3#.

When I hunted turkeys in the hills of southern Indiana, a sure fire way to locate gobblers was to owl hoot from a ridge top. Toms would sound off immediately, sometimes so far away one could barely hear them.I have yet to have a gobbler respond to my owl hoots on my place in the St Lawrence valley. Yesterday morning, as I was walking across a hay field, I had a Barred Owl hooting near my set-up location, but not an single shock gobble. 15 minutes later, as the sky lightened up, a gobbler started sounding off less than 100 yds from where the owl was hooting. Not having much luck W/a crow call either. Fortunately, I'm learning the preferred roost locations & travel patterns. In the Morgan Monroe Stare Forest near Martinsville, IN, I once called a pair of Barred Owls in so close I could see them. They went back & forth for quite some time. I was treated to quite the variety of Barred Owl vocalizations including hoots, cackles & trills.

So by your own words, it sounds like we need more stringent enforcement of existing regulations, not less regulation. -
If we are not going to regulate corporate thieves & rapists, then shouldn't we stop regulating persons that are thieves & rapists too? They can just turn themselves in & determine their own sentences. Just think how much tax $$$$ we will save by doing away with all those expensive court systems & police departments bogged down by excessive regulation.
