If Hobby Lobby can discriminate due to their "deeply held religious beliefs" why not an individual? In both cases it is BS, but that's what happens when government gets involved in religion.

Does that include those that are "offended" by "political correctness"?

We're taking our grandchildren to the pancake breakfast in Croghan on Sunday. After the breakfast we go to a sugar bush that is way down in a bottom. No electricity & horse drawn sleds.

As far as I kniw there's no law against making them. Possessing lead sinkers (while fishing) under 1/2oz is illegal I think.

That just because you want it caliber

8X68S built on a K98 action W/ a 26" barrel. 200gr .323 bullets @ 3000fps. -
Are Magnum rifle really unnecessary
wildcat junkie replied to Borngeechee's topic in Guns and Rifles and Discussions
I think the 2nd shot was "insurance" & they were both made at the same location. As for firearms, I wouldn't want to face a large bear W/anything that couldn't push a 200gr bullet at least 2900fps. That leaves out the 30-06. Something on the order of 325 WSM, 8 X 68S or 338 Win Mag would be minimum. The thing about Alaska is, you never know when you might face a large carnivore looking to do you serious bodily harm. -

I saw a video of the guy that backed him up W/a rifle shooting clay pigeons off the back of the boat W/a 458 Win Mag. Fred wasn't a fool. -
Here is a picture taken on 3/11/15 at 5:00 PM. Slushy area is expanding & water is now standing . Same scene taken on 3/12/15 at 5:00 PM. Nearlly the entire surface is now ether slushy or has water standing. There is now a substantial flow of water close to the near shore.

Have they repealed all of the sodomy laws in NY State? -

Dogs have owners, cats have staff. -
I fished the trout opener back around '74 in a tributary of the Allegheny about 20 miles North of Pittsburgh. They had a game warden on the bridge to blow the whistle @ 8:00 AM or whatever the official opening time was. I had gotten there early & was standing on the corner of a concrete abutment under the bridge so I wasn't getting tangled up. (much) It was quite a circus.

The trout don't wake up on our tundra rivers until the middle of April anyway. I check the temperature of the St Regis River in my back yard. It runs about 4° warmer than the trout water sections upstream. When it approaches 50° here it is time to start hitting the pocket water from St Regis Falls down to Ft Jackson. The Salmon River below Malone is 4° colder than the trout water in the St Regis in the summer so it stays productive longer.

Thanks Elm. I was googling individual pages last night & the site went offline. I'll get some PIX downloaded for some of the nominations. Although I liked the movie immensely, I don't think Jeremiah Johnson qualifies as the calibers are totally incorrect for what was actually used on the plains. A .50 was small caliber. .54 was the average. I believe Kit Carson carried a .62. .30 caliber would be useless for anything larger than small game. "The Ghost & the Darkness" has some very interesting weapons as does "The Unforgiven", "Silverado & "The Wild Bunch" The gunfight from "Open Range" would definitely get my vote for the best gunfight, which sounds like another interesting thread topic. -
Best "Gun" Movie (Not a War Movie)

Mmmmm not really historically correct. Though the movie had Johnson carrying a Hawken gun, the actual gun carried in the movie little resembles a gun after the true Jacob and Samuel Hawken style. Jeremiah Johnson (Robert Redford) carries both a .30 and .50 caliber Hawken rifle. Jeremiah fires the .50 caliberHawken rifle for the first time. -
Best "Gun" Movie (Not a War Movie)

I never knew the exact time period, but judging from the weaponry I always assumed 1930s. Krags we're going for $7.95 in 1927, so there were probably plenty of them about in 1931. SMLE & the trench gun would have been WW I surplus. There was also a Vickers machine gun on the biplane so that would be period correct too I would think. -

The following guns were used in this movie. 1. William Munny used a 1859 Starr revolver double action, a Smith and Wesson Schofield revolver, a 12-gauge double barreled coach shotgun, and later a Spencer rifle. The database where I got the PIX for "Death Hunt" also have "The Wild Bunch" & "The Unforgiven" listed but they are offline right now. I'll check them out tomorrow. -
Feral Cats and Dogs: would you cull them?
wildcat junkie replied to thunnus's topic in General Hunting
Yeah I wish I could take credit for a brilliantly concocted plan, but I was a surprised as anyone when all those feral chickens disappeared. I didn't even notice it for almost a week. I doubt that the neighbor ever made the connection. -
You'd be surprised what pedaling almost 4000 miles in 6 month will do for your ability to climb moderate inclines W/O working up a sweat. If you have the leg power to stay in higher gear you are up the grade before the get sweaty or winded. The steep stuff I get off & push right away. Coming back from Sheep Meadows I could peddle up out of Hays Brook & the Osgood River. Not the case going in. Both inclines going North are STEEP. The one going North out of Hay Brook is almost too steep to come down mounted. It would be if you had any load on. I'm traveling light. The Mauser in the PIX slung across my back, a small folding chair & a fanny pack. Early bear season didn't require much clothing that year.
