Comparing archery tackle to bullet terminal ballistics isn't really a good comparison. Arrows kill by hemorrhage, bullet also impart shock. Archers also are more particular (rightfully so) about range, shot placement & shot angle. Also, kinetic energy of an arrow has far less to do W/leathality than it does W/bullets for that same reason. A test was done on water buffalo carcasses years ago on arrow penetration. the water buffalo was used as it has overlapping ribs that would yield a more consistent result. All sorts of bow & arrow combos were tested from longbows W/very heavy arrow traveling at very modest velocity to tricked out compound bows shooting lightweight arrows at the highest industry velocities. The longbow/heavy arrow proved to be the best at bone penetration.

I think the question is one of; What is the worst thing that could happen? A 22rf will kill the biggest buck alive, given proper bullet placement. Some indigenous Alaskan people use the 22rf for moose as the moose doesn't usually run off when hit as there is no shock. It just stands there, oblivious until it bleeds out & falls over. It all boils down to what type of shot angle presents itself. Does the bullet have enough mass to penetrate dense bone to travel through the vitals on a bad hit or a less than optimum shoot angle? A 270 W/a 130gr rapidly expanding/explosive bullet would be marginal. The same cartridge W/a 140 or 150gr bonded bullet would not be.

Why do we "take" a crap when we actually leave one?

Most double rifles have low temp soldered barrels allowing the re-soldering of the barrels during the regulating process to get both barrels to shoot to the same POI. Hot tank bluing will dissolve the solder bond thus rust bluing is usually employed. Rust bluing is a very expensive process given the time involved. Most high end custom guns are rust blued regardless of configuration given the beautiful soft dark charcoal grey/black results. Here is my 1st attempt at rust bluing. Although my results don't compare to the perfection of the Merkel, note the similar soft, satiny dark gray/black hue of the Merkel & my Mauser rather than the blue/black of hot tank bluing. It took 9 cycles of rusting, boiling & carding to achieve that hue. That probably took more than 40 hours to do all of the parts/pieces. How much do you think a custom gun maker would charge for that? Especially given the much higher labor rates in Europe compared to the USA.. Compare that to a hot-tank blued weapon.

Gorgeous Rust Blueing! Holland & Holland also makes a .700 Nitro Express. Ammo is $100 a pop, but after spending $30,000 on the rifle, $100 for a cartridge is relatively inexpensive. One doesn't burn through a lot of it anyway.

Lets see, 8000 ft #s of Me, 10# rifle? Sounds like a recipe for detached retinas to me.

Since my wife is the primary policy beneficiary it's not "me" paying for it. She has a family history of breast cancer, I appreciate your hard earned dollars paying for my freeloading wife's health care. -

Yes, true, but it appears to be "male menopause" so the "gynecological" coverage is moot isn't it? -

Funny, my rates haven't changed a bit. Can you cite anyone that had adequate health insurance W/O lifetime coverage limits that had their rates go up in NY state. Not talking about "junk" policies here. I'm talking about policies that where equal to the mandated minimums of the ACA. You know, policies that covered Doctor visits W/affordable co-pays, no yearly or lifetime coverage limits that kick you to the curb when you get cancer, etc. Coverage like I already had before the ACA. (modeled BTW after "Romneycare" in Massachusetts when he was Governor) -
I used to use a shooting tab for my recurve bow. One day I got up a tree in my climber & tried to find my tab. After a fruitless search through about 12 pockets, I looked down to see my tab laying on the ground at the base of the tree. I cut a piece of leather from my belt to use as a makeshift tab. Shooting bare fingers really throws off POI on a heavy draw weight traditional bow. My makeshift tab wasn't that much better. Thankfully, I didn't encounter a shot opportunity that evening. I switched to a 3-finger glove after that. I could leave it dangle from my wrist as I set up the climber thus preventing leaving it behind after set-up.

True, but the Republicans have no shame. The corporate campaign contributions aren't even close to being evenly split. The REICH accuses the Dems of taking $$ from unions, but that is putting more $$$ into the working man's pockets & that $$ is spent in the local economy. That creates jobs. The UAW took 2 hours pay a month for dues. $60 a month is what I paid for a job that paid about $70K a year for a 40 hour work week W/good benefits. Pretty good ROE if you ask me. The people that the Repugs want to funnel tax cuts to, take that $$$ to HBSC to hide it, along with most of profits they make..What they don't hide, they use for stock buy back schemes that don't put anyone to work other than a small handful of hedge fund managers.. Henry Ford was a job creator, Henry paid 2X the usual wage at the time because he realized that it would expand his market. The Mitt Romneys & their ilk destroyed good paying jobs & replaced them W/a smaller number of low paying jobs. -

Gotta give the man credit. He's not a flip-flopper like Romney. -

Hey, stop that!. Anything other than a conservative view isn't "politically correct" here is it? -

It seems that the tipping point was Comcast putting the squeeze on Net-Flix to pay higher rates or they wouldn't carry them. Net-Flix caved & paid the ransom, but since they had a large user base, it got public attention. Guess who would pay the added cost? -

What do you mean? Just look how the heath care insurance corporations took care of us. As long as you didn't get so sick that it cut into their profits. Life time coverage limits ya know. Oh yeah & if you were already sick & lost your insurance, they couldn't be expected to cut into those profits to pick up the expense of providing life saving care. "Pre-existing conditions are bad for the bottom line. But hey there was always the emergency rooms for the dead beats that just didn't want to pay for health care insurance. Why should they when us that have insurance will just be charged more to cover their bills. The REICH wing health insurance industry lobby propaganda machine is working perfectly. Now, Comcast's stooge Ted Cruz is leading the Lemmings to the cliff. Joseph Goebbels would be so proud! -
I saw 4 deer yesterday from my kitchen/deck sliding doors. 3 were across the river around 1:00 PM coming to one of the only open water areas. They looked like a doe & yearlings. My daughter saw the other just before sundown. I had to step through the door to see down the river. It was a little over 1/3 of a mile down stream, probably seeking open water too. It was very LARGE, most likely a buck given its size & solitary nature.

I've read that the most beneficial way to "cut browse" is to only cut through a sapling far enough to bend it over. Leaving a "hinge" keeps the tree alive & it can regenerate in the spring providing easy to reach browse over several years.

The obviously misused homonyms as bait is a silly attempt to get a rise out of phade. This inane ploy apparently has failed..
