cleaning your release

In another esite they were talking of having there release not work well due to being gumed up from string wax. They cleaned it with white gas and then blew the release dry....they said it then worked just like new. I have been using the same release for years and never did anything except use silcon oil on it to make sure no rust from snow or rain if I was out hunting...do you clean or take special care to keep your release as new ?????

Just lube it with a little gun oil once a while. Now you have me wondering if I put enough wax on? Never get wax on the release. Would never ever use white gas to clean anything, safety issue. Gasoline can ignite just for spite.

I don't clean the metal parts as long as they are functioning, but think of the odor that might be comming from the wrist band especially if you do alot of shooting in the summer. I'm sure the scent control freaks have thought of that as well.

Never cleaned mine or lubed it. IIRC is is 13 years old and still running strong EXCEPT the fact that I have had to sew on new velcro a couple times. No problem.......although it looks like Helen Keller did the job. <grin>

I do have a back up release, same kind of "release", just a different strap set up. It has more of a glove than just a simple back of the hand deal. Hey Larry, WHO CARES? Sorry for the babble.......

I lube mine with Scorpion Venom Cam lube once a year. I dont have issues with string wax, as it never touches my release. I use a D loop.

I have 2 of the exact same releases. One for practice, the other for hunting. I know of other guys that do the same thing.

I just switched to the D-loop this year and have a new release. My old string release for the MQ1 is still working great after 12 years, never oiled it... Always dried it off after rain or humid day... I use to hit my arm a lot and only waxed the string one or two times a year due to replacing it every year. I wonder if the wax on the release is what made it work for so long as I have never oiled it...

I have used the same release for 10 years and have never had to clean it. I might have put a drop of oil into it once or twice but thats about it.

I've never cleaned or oiled my release (never even thought about it). Now after reading these posts paranoia has got the best of me and says.... 'Clean It'.
