Talk About Butt Covering

Quote me where someone is defending NAMBLA, I can't find it.

I think what you fail to realize is that just because a group is made up of homosexuals, it doesn't make it a "homosexual group". Kind of like how the KKK is a group made up of Caucasian people, but.....(see where I'm going with this).

You are saying just what NY was tryign to illustrate in his first reference of that group.

Thanks Ants. Some folks just seem to be a few sandwiches short of a picnic. Racism is wrong. Homophobia (not my word, I think someone can disagree or find homosexuality distasteful without being homophobic. But I mean legitimate hate of people for simply being homosexual) is wrong. For some reason though, hating religion, especially Christianity, seems to be perfectly acceptable. It's horsepuckey. Like I said, I don't believe, but I'm not gonna start screaming about how religion is pure evil. Don't preach or try to convert me, and I won't denigrate your faith. Plain as that. Instead let's talk about.....hey, see that buck?

Not really a good analogy... KKK is made up of white supremacists ... Caucasion is a race... homosexuality is not.. NAMBLA actually has caucasians as well.. that doesn't define its membership... and I think Culver gets it.. I'm not bashing homosexuals here.. I'm making a point about lumping a whole group with the sad actions of a few members of that group... NAMBLA's sad actions should not reflect on all homosexuals.. just like a Catholic priests actions should not reflect on Catholisim as a whole.

I just want churches to pay taxes.

The churches money comes primarily from fundraisers and donations from the community... taxing them would only be taxing the community again... much of the money raised is used to fund programs to help the needy and the community.. so you would also be taking money away from those programs... If you are going to tax the churches.. you should also tax not for profit organizations as well... any money that goes to employees of the church or not for profit org. is taxed anyway as income withholdings for that individual... so by taxing the church you would only be taxing the money earmarked for programs designed to help those in need.

Bingo!! I will say one thing though. I think they do need to look at the how assets are classified and owned. Their are churches that own everything. the members own nothing. th ehomes the members live in are church owned. the fields. the personal property is all church owned. that make all than non taxable. What NY described was teh intention of the tax emempt status but I believe that is being abused....real shocker ...huh?

I agree.. there are churches popping up all over just to avoid taxes and make the pastor rich.. I think we are talking here though about tradional churches that have been in existence for 1000's of years.... the ones where the pastors don't drive a Mercedes...lol

I agree with churches paying taxes. Many of them rake in profits. In the town I am moving to, there is a fairly large church, which also has a college. First off, the college has misc chunks of property for its regular dorms, plus apartments, plus the church its self, then they buy up every house in the town that they can get for cheap. Over the years, they now own a substantial amount of land in the town. What has that done? Shrunk the taxable properties, and in turn caused the taxes for every business and resident in the town to go up. In turn, that has driven many of the businesses out.

We just need to fix the loopholes and end the abuse. At the risk of being called a racist the Oneidas (Oneida Indian Nation) have done the same thing in Madison and Oneida counties and caused a significant increase in tax's due to the shrinking amount of "taxable" property.
