I've used one for years and like it. It helps me stay in the stand longer and makes for a more comfortable sit. Plus, I like to keep my gun and scope out of the rain too.

yeah, i know their nice, thats why I want to replace mine. Looking for a recommendation. What brand is yours? any idea??

Thats a good idea about using a step. Taht is what happened to mine. It just got bent to shit and then broke. The umbrella itself is actually in good shape. it is vented so it withstands a ton of wind. A lot I looked at online are not. They will get ripped off the tree by me the first day its windy.

Owned a Hunter Speciality 52 " umbrella for many years. Thought it was a good idea to lube the piviot points with guns oil every so often. It is of vented type, which I believe is extending it's life. Have used it on those nasty wet days, but doesn't keep u completely dry. The size does extend past your knees, but will dampen your spirits in breezy, windy conditions. The plastic mount has not failed, but I do lube the screw in tree mount with beeswax. It also help with a, non squeek removal sound. To look at it, one would think it a piece of junk, but has stood the test of time and use. Should have purchased several for 8 bucks, but u know how that goes.

Edit: Also should note that the mounting location, above u, makes a huge difference on dryness.

Paula: I own several of those units. They work great, if u modify the center with an extra cross brace. They do tend to hold water, if not. Got my 1st one, maybe 5 years ago.

I often wondered....do they go out past your knees when sitting?...I think it would drive me crazy having the water dripping down on my knees and boots...like sitting under a tree branch in a rain.......They just don't look that wide...

Yes, mine did. I had mine for 7 or 8 years until a 60 mph wind came through last season and broke it. It almost even survived that. I had no issues with staying dry. They are a lifesaver. Agreed that if it is windy, nothing will stop you from getting wet.

I have this one, works well, hugs the tree. Little flimsy but used it for 2 seasons so far.

ya it does the job, gotta be gentle with it though, this is my second one all together, the first one i tore up during archery in south florida swamps during wicked rain storms that pass through quite often, couldn't get it down in time.. oh well, im stoked about actually being dry while hunting and not sweating my a$$ off during archery this year! got some nice bucks on cam, so im lookin to top my biggest buck to date this year! good luck ya'll
