Pure Rediculousness

I wish it was illegal. Pretty much all of Texas is high-fence these days. More states to comes.

Not really. Most of Texas is low fence. Alot of what you see on TV of Texas is high fence. Then again, alot of what you see on TV in any state is high fence.

I dont see why anyone would be surprised at a show sponsored by SCI is shot in a fenced preserve. Thats what SCI does, they keep a record book for preserve animals.

I disagree. It's like hunting with a friend who knows the land. Unless you could take a year off from work and go and scout land and the animals you plan to hunt in another state, you need to hire a guide. I don't own a quad, I dont own a truck, etc. I need all that stuff to hunt certain terrain in other states.

Correct, some places like British Columbia, you have to be with the guide at all times.

If hunting with a guide is not "real hunting" than hunting over food plots can definitely not be called "real hunting". With a guide I hunt natural land, not artificial supplements to draw animals in. Same goes with calling, etc.

To me, without a "high-fence", its most likely "real hunting"

So because you lack the knowledge and skills required to hunt "certain terrain in other states", you pay someone to make up for what you lack.

Many of the people that pay to hunt a high fence operation are in a similar boat, just they lack more than what you do, so they pay for it.

What Im getting at here, is that it may not be something for you, but that doesnt make it necessarily wrong. These people are just killing farm animals with a gun or bow rather than in a slaughter house. Thats what it is to me at least. I just dont call it hunting, and dont worry about it.

If theres anyone to speak out against, it would be the networks and companies that put that type of thing out there and call it hunting.

Right, I dont call it hunting either. It only bothers me when people consider it hunting.

As far as paying for skills/knowledge, not at all. Majority of the time I paying for equipment, gas, and land-access. Very rarely does a guide wow me with their knowledge and/or skills. Most of the time I am spotting the animals before the guide anyway, and making shot the guide(s) say they couldn't have made.

What about people who say, "Food plots and treestands are for people who cant kill deer on their own. So they pay for what they lack in skill".

Point is, everybody has their own opinions. B&C is never going to decide to not allow entries from people who hunted with a guide.

Honest question here:

You wouldn't go on a fair-chase (no fence) hunt that is guided?

I'm not trying to argue. I understand your point about guides, and you understand my point about food plots.

Back to the topic, my closing statement is that fenced in hunting is not really hunting and shouldnt be considered it.

Same goes with fishing. If I bring home a bass and throw him in a private pond and feed him like crazy, then catch him when he's over 6lbs, is it really a trophy? not in my opinion.

Regardless of how many acres you still not only have the game in but predators/poachers out as well as any outside factors like develpoing areas etc...

If there was no advantage people wouldn't put up hgih fences

Trust me.. In Africa... South Africa that is.. Without those high fences... You would not have game animals.. Theyt would be shot, trapped etc till there were none left..

To each there own.. but in terms of South Africa or exotics here.. I'm for high fence... I don't want exotics running around here and in Africa, it's better they have animals to hunt over barren landscape..

Also goes back to, if you don't like it, don't do it or watch it...

We've covered this all before. Same old thing. ....Take a different look at it....How much is big enough to consider it a hunt? There has to be a number. What if NY was ringed in a fence? How about Kodiak Island? How about a mile square? 100 acres? where is it before it is considerd a hunt?

When in Arizona hunting mt lions, many times we chased for 10-15 miles on foot in a day and came up empty handed. Not sure how many acres that equates to, but if there was a fence we would have surely caught that lion at some point.

12000 Acres is equal to about 19 square miles. Also, these fences have to be insanely high to keep a mountain lion in, since i'm pretty sure they climb trees lol.

If i was rich i would buy 10,000 acres and fence it all in .Then i would SHOOT what ever i wanted.I would even get my self some mountain lions and some moose.and some antilope and maybe a tiger or two. Then i could hunt (i mean shoot)whatever i wanted. My own little world.Oh if i was only rich.

Fist off I would love to shoot a crazy antlered deer, could not do it like that, but the reality is those places may be the only place to do that. I don't care what others decide to do who am I to judge another's CHOICE. Those places pay BIG money to get the genetics into their herds, sperm, stud fees, studs, and like any other business they have to protect their investments, how else would I do it without a fence. It may not be the HUNTING most of us think about, some people must enjoy it or they wouldn't be in business. I love how people think if u don't hunt like them then it is not hunting, lol

How did they survive before the days of fences?

I don't watch it, but that doesn't mean I like the image it gives to people outside the sport or new to the sport. My buddy hasn't gotten anything in 5 years just sits waiting for something and then calls my buck a "cull" deer because of all he has learned from Larry Weishun and QDMA

Take your highly unwelcome response somewhere else. It's not hunting, plain and simple. Sitting in a log cabin shooting house, in reclining roller chairs, in your plain clothes, with several bucks over 190" out in front of you is not hunting by any stretch of the imagination.

Its not just against that don't consider it hunting. The record books as well as the DEC don't conisder it hunting. Hunting requires fair chase and a hunting license.
