We Need To Ban Doctors!!!! They are a higher cause of death than guns!!!!

doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN,

BUT ...Almost everyone has at least one doctor.

This means you are over 9,000 times more likely to be killed by a doctor as by a gun owner!!!

Please alert your friends to this alarming threat.

We must ban doctors before this gets completely out of hand!!!!!

I understand your frustration and attempt to compare an icon of health and safety against now what is considered an icon of "a scourge on society" and I do get humor and think it is kind of funny. I get it is a joke aimed to portray your frustration, however, the doctor and terrible epidemiologist in me feel that I must point out some terrible errors in your logic and statistical analysis....oh I wish my epi/statistician professor or anyone else who likes that boring crap would comment.

Not sure where to begin. First, when quoting stats, you must include your specific source by citation, otherwise 97% of stats are BS. Secondly, you are comparing dependent variables that are not controlled for or defined in any way. You are making assumptions without appropriate context or relationship. Without even touching the T-square analysis, confidence intervals, causal vs association arguments, null hypothesis, etc, etc. you are comparing doctors to accidental deaths as quantal, i.e. yes or no. It should be accidental death per doctor, but more so accidental death per doctor visit or even more appropriately, accidental death per doctor-pt interaction. A gun can only cause death when it is being used in one way or another and most of the time they are unloaded sitting in a safe. Whereas everytime a doctor orders a test, a lab, a medication, the patient is at risk for an adverse effect that could potentially lead to their death. On some days, I may see 3-20 patients depending on my responsibilities for that day. If any of those patients die, by your logic I am the one doctor that caused one death and therefor there is a significant association of death related to Dr. mistakes. But if you look at how many doctors saw that patient that day or just everytime I did anything that could lead to that patient's demise, it could well be up to over a 1000 interactions in one day. Therefore, if one of my interactions caused an "accidental death" you would then say 1:1000. So in very very simplified terms, your number of accidental deaths per physician is grossly overstated. I'm tired, this is really a pointless exercise.

Imagine how many more people would die from GSWs if there weren't any doctors? That's what is called a confounding variable. Ban people, not guns.

Doctors are professionals but they're not God. They still make mistakes and our technology still has limits. Michael Jordan is the greatest player in the history of basketball but even he misses a shot here and there. But when your life in on the line, who would you pick to take the shot?

Just like doctors, guns are also capable of saving lives, many many lives. The best gun is one that doesn't need to be fired at another human being.

Strip guns from the people, and see how fast crime rates jump and how fast governments abuse the people.

It's just unreal how many here point fingers at cars, doctors, baseball bats, video games, etc. etc., for deaths or violence, yet for the life of them can't admit that the many, many guns out there might play a part in it all too. I figure these are the same type that will never admit that the 4 packs of cigarettes a day might have had something to do with their emphysema or lung cancer. The analogies I see here are as LAME as LAME can be. You guys are doing everything you possibly can to divert the attention away from guns, but I can assure you NO one is buying it right now. Guns are surely NOT the only issue, but they damn well can't be excluded either. Sorry you fellas can't figure it out.

Maybe those wanting assault weapons banned don't have much of a leg to stand on with these statistics, but firearms in total are nonetheless WAY ahead of any other implement. Those claiming that knives, baseball bats, etc, would be used if somehow guns were banned are full of it also since it is still way easier to buy a baseball bat or knife, yet the weapon of choice for murder is still a gun.

killing someone with a gun gives the killer distance from the victim, and makes the killing somewhat less personal..........the person who can shoot someone from a distance may not have what it takes to slit someone's throat with a knife or bash their skull in with a hammer.

If a bat or knife was used in a violent crime and did not result in death it is not included in the overall count as far as murder goes ...So any of those that overlook this are in fact only fooling themselves ... I can see from your attitude that no amount of conversation or facts would ever get you on a pro gun side you speak out of both sides of your mouth. On one hand you say you are pro gun ,but then you argue with anyone that posts a pro gun view that they are wrong and you are right ! Sorry to say this is what the anti gun advocates want a divided stance by gun owners ...I'lll just say this pick your side of the fence and stay on it. More gun bans and laws are ineffective the way to reduce crime is to put crimnals away that use guns during the commission of a crime . 10 years mandatory, possession during a crime 25 years mandatory using a firearm during commission of a crime and NO PLEA BARGINING..
