I had a skunk frequenting my backyard last summer.. Never saw the varmint, but he left his calling card, which I smelled on several occasions.

I set the Havahart and tried to trap/ transfer him to no avail, and eventually he moved on.. I don't want to set a conibear or foothold for fear of catching the neighbor's cat, PLUS the fact that if I got him in a convential trap, he'd most likely UNLOAD....

This morning I went out behind my utility shed to put out some table scraps for my pet crows. And there was a fresh skunk track going in and out under my shed... He's back..

No big surprise, since skunks mate in February...

I guess he's not doing any harm...He's only a skunk...Could be worse..I could have a DEMOCRAT living in my back yard.

Skunks pulling the pin around a house can obviously be brutal. My yellow lab got blasted in the front yard 20 years ago and it was horrific! Fortunately I'm in the cleaning business and had an ozone machine working on the interior right away. The dog was another matter........

I cleaned all the carpets & furniture the next morning and within a few days all was pretty good.

I've had the little bastids on my front lawn at 3am digging grubs or whatever they eat and had the .22 out the window and chickened out. ILLEGAL as can be in my neighborhood! One of my better decisions in life.......

Good luck with the little trouble maker Dan. I know they can be trapped easy enough (!!) with a short squatly live trap so they can't lift their tail and spray.

I hate 'em!!

If it is a female could be looking fora place to have those baby's in the spring. I had one a few years ago that made a home under the concrete around my pool. Trapped her and brought her down to the state land and let her go. Didn't realize she had 5 little ones in there with her. All but 1 ended up in the pool. I would try to trap her now before the family comes along. Good luck

About 25 years ago My room mate got into a war with one and thinks he won. The thing was living under a concrete slab near the front door of the house. We would see it once and in a while but he really didn't bother me all that much. On night I was at work and got a call from my room mate (look up city boy in the dictionary...thats his photo) he was freaking out because the skunk was out digging in the lawn, right by the front door. I told him to ignore it.

As I was driving down my street, on the way home that night, it smelled like there was a dead skunk laying on my dash board. When I got out of my truck, in the driveway I almost gagged from the skunk smell. There were 2 burnt flares and a shovel laying near the skunks hole, in front of the house. I walked inside to see my bow and several loose arrows laying on the sofa and a bunch of .22 rounds spilled all over the floor. The house reeked! My room mate was gone and I found a note, with an empty .22 shell on top of it. The note said "me and the skunk went at it. I won." I wrote "the hell you did" Then I drove to my parents house to escape the smell and sleep.

Yeah...First he tried to burn it out of its hole by throwing the flares in. Then he was worried that the house would catch fire, so he poured a bucket of water into the hole to put the flares out, but they kept burning. Then he digs the flares out with the shovel and goes back into the house. A little while later the skunk is back, by the front door. He trys to shoot it with my bow, but can't draw it back. Finally he grabs the.22 and shoots it. I remember saying to him " I f-ing hope you were drunk"
