I don't know of any places that are large enough to do a long hike and camp kinda hunt

CuseHunter
Anyone have recommendations for a public area good for a three day hunt? I heard of a place in Geneseo Called letchworth state park, but fear it is too small to make a trip out of due to the fact they only allow you small sections to hunt from. yet it seems attracting due to the limit on hunting pressure. chiefbkt
If you do the ADKS, go when there is snow. Easier to track the few deer that are there.
CuseHunter
I just don't want to go up north there because I've heard the hunting isn't great, the deer are far more scarce than they are in the west or south west. That may be my ignorance due to the tales and stories I hear from the old timers that I'm around.

Doc
There is an awful lot of public land that doesn't allow camping, or only allows camping in designated areas (often not suitable for hunting). Be sure to check that out before you get too far along with your plans.

Danny
I think Moose River Plains would be a great place for you to try out, yes deer populations are lower than in the southern tier but if your willing to put in a lot of effort it can pay off big time with a true northern buck Some great features of MSP rec area 50,000 acres (huge property people get lost and die) you drive in and park at a designated campsite, when i went i drove in from the gate for over an hour to our campsite, and that was about 1/2 thru the property you could use the campsite as your (base camp) you can then flashlight your way up the to the mountain tops in the dark and work your way down in the morning (bucks are working there way back up) you could back country camp on the mountain and then head back to your base camp to re-supply you may see moose think about it, it really is some gorgeous country
mmkay
I used to hunt Peakamoose Mountain years ago. Its part of the Slide Mountain wilderness area. You might want to check this place out. I think you'll see more bear then large deer http://www.dec.ny.gov/lands/9150.html

I'll make it a trip for the gun season instead of the archery. I appreciate the recommendation.

This is a good point, I'm glad you brought it up and will look into it before deciding on a location
