chasing this morning

This morning at about 8 i had a doe come through...two minutes later a small 4 came in her footsteps grunting non stop. About 3 minutes later a big 8 came busting through the exact same trail grunting as well. The crazy thing is the doe went into a field, did two weird circles with like a five foot radius and trotted off. These bucks did the exact same thing.

 

When people say bucks follow does footstep for footstep, im a believer now.

 

And i have no idea why i didnt shoo the big 8 so dont ask me im still trying to figure it out myself lol

I had a young buck grunting up a storm and running does for about 20 minutes while I was walking out from my stand. heard the higher pitch grunt and was waiting for the big boy to step in.

Late?  Its the prerut looks like deer are starting to get in the mood and you might find a doe or 2 in heat already, But just like every year for the last ten, My vaca is scheduled so i can have the 5th thru the 12th off,  Best time to be in the woods to watch big bucks, IMHO

that's interesting. I have been hunting my butt off all bow season with very little movement.  Its amazing how the rut brings deer out.  I remember how crazy it was last year during opening day rifle and how much it has changed.  I look forward to Rifle and I am in the process of purchasing a muzzleloader as well to extend the season.

what's his prediction this year?

The calendar says minor rutting activity starting around "15 October" to the first weekend of November followed by major rutting activity from "10 November" to end of November.  I love how he puts the day in front of the month when talking about it.  

I've seen a lot of people on here don't go by his predictions (and I guess I don't either as I hunt when I can), but he does put together a nice calendar.

Saturday I had a similar situation. Heard crashing and what not. 4-5 does come running through. Kept looking behind them. They take off finally. 15 seconds later I hear grunting coming and here comes an 8 point right after them. No shot as they were running and behind a lot of branches but it's still good to see.
