Help with deer tracking!

My buddy shot at a deer last night wasn't sure of the shot so we went out this morning looking. Found white hair only with some blood on it and the arrow with little blood on it. Followed the tracks and found no blood. Could he have just grazed the belly?

It was a light rain last night so you can't really see the blood on arrow. But when you touch it you can tell there's blood on it

No didn't smell at all but like I said it was a light rain last night would that wash the smell away?

I double lunged one last night and the blood was a thin coat. barley any on it at all. Was he in a stand and how far away was the shot?

We went back and looked again just white hair with little blood followed the tracks through the field a good 300 yards no blood or hair. 25 yard shot from the stand

Deer Search will most likely not take this track. Only white hair and no foul smell leads me to believe that the deer is fine.

 

Additionally, you searched 300yds looking for sign. This means any blood there was, could have been stepped in by you and him. This mucks up the track and the Deer Search tracking dogs start tracking where you walked. Seen this happen a lot.

If you don't want to try DS or they won't take it. Try finding an old time liquid gas Coleman lantern. You know, the ones with the white fragile wick globes?    Go out at night. They make the blood show up like it's under a black light.    Worth a shot.
