Yeah, and where would you set up to hunt them?  On the roof of someone's garage?  When you shoot one it would fall over and die next to some kids swing set in someone elses backyard.  You'll have to knock on their door and ask them for permission to drag your deer out and down their paved driveway.  I can see the horror on their faces over the blood stains you left behind already.  I don't care how big the bucks are, I would not want to hunt in a scenario like that.

Believe it or not there are a few tracts of land with enough space that could be safely hunted. Staten Island has alot of wooded acreage and state and city parks that is continous 50+ wooded acres and even tracts over 100+ acres. I am on the fence about whether or not I would give out tags to hunt in staten island only because of some irresponsible person that will not be able to get the job done properly but there is definitely land that could be hunted without disturbing the community.

I'm sure there are some spots, but people have to realize that Staten Island is within NYC limits, and holding any sort of hunt would be a CIRCUS of the greatest magnitude.  Any hunter who would want to subject himself to the media scrutiny along with everyone else eyeballing them is plum crazy in my opinion.  You'd have some irate city people wanting to kill the hunters and drag them down the street.  The media would make these people out to be heroes and saviors of the wild kingdom.  If you guys want something like that, knock yourselves out!  I won't be joining you.

Si definitely has some spots to hunt, but the people suck for the most part and that's in general like others said forget about taking a deer in sight of anyone, it would be a complete shyt show. Grew up on si,26 years couldn't wait to leave lol

Btw what happened to all the pheasant, growing up I would see pheasant and rabbits all over Richmond ave around the mall on the side of the dump, haven't seen a pheasant in 15 years over there but now deer are everywhere.

Take it easy there. I actually like where I live and most peopIe I know and come across in Staten Island are good people so you may not want to go down that road. As for the wildlife, The pheasant are gone but I see tons of wildlife near my house all the time. I live right near Gateway park and I have seen dolphins, seals, turtles, salamanders, snakes, deer, rabbits, skunks, hawks and eagles. Thats right I said eagles. Bald Eagles have been spotted numerous times in multiple areas on a regular basis.

I agree I think it would not probably turn out too good however it is not because there are not places to hunt but more because of the one or more idiots that may ruin it by doing something stupid whether it be an anti or a hunter.

The only thing I am concerned about is that the city or state is going to eradicate the herd on its own just like they are trying to do with the turkeys.

Honestly would that be a bad thing??  The environment is very unnatural for both the turkey and deer, so I don't think it would be a bad thing if they did.

I moved to Staten Island when I was a kid and for the first time I saw kids playing in the street lol. I had alot of great memories then my family moved to brooklyn. Once I got married and saved up some money I came right back to Staten Island and bought a house. Within the first week all my neighbors introduced themselves and we were on a first name basis. I lived in brooklyn for most of my life and never knew 3/4 of my neighbors besides the fact that most of them didnt speak english lol and thats not a knock on brooklyn cause I love it there for other reasons. Gateway is open and they have made it really nice. Great trails and beautiful beach and marina. Wolfes Pond park is under major renovations and should be something really nice when they are done.

I am assuming you have never been to staten island. Staten Island is heavily wooded with alot of big acre parks and has areas that any wildlife could make a sanctuary without human disturbance. It is a perfectly natural environment. As a matter of fact most of Staten Island didnt start to develop until the mid-late 1970s and prior to that was all farm and woodlands. The wildlife in staten island is what sets it apart from the other boroughs and I for one would like to see it stay that way. Staten Island actually doesnt even resemble any of the other boroughs and I will take you areas of staten island that would make you think you are in dutchess county!

I've been to Staten Island and it may be a bit more rural looking than the other boroughs, but in my mind its FAR from the ideal natural setting for animals like deer and turkey.  Maybe birdlife, raccoons, skunks can blend in there, but deer and turkey are another matter.  That's my view anyway.

Its alot more rural than all the boroughs. Dont get me wrong you definitely have your conjested areas and its no catskill mountains but you need to explore staten island a little more to really know and you will definetly see it can support more than you think. There are two very different sides of staten island.

Believe it or not they still play street hockey all the time on my block. Its still alive lol. Basketball too and wiffle ball too. Wolfes pond did get nailed bad but fortunately they are rebuilding it better than it was. I was fortunate enough to see the plans and it should be real nice.
