ApexerER
I have seen very few deer this hunting season although I was able to take a small buck with the rifle. I have never hunted the late Archery season and I was wondering how those that have, how they have made out.
MACHINIST
My brother in laws first does with a bow was in the late season. It can be done but it is tough.I say go for it,what else do you have to do??
dbHunterNY
I hunt down wind of bedding areas but mainly fields they're feeding at. bucks are on the move back to where they'll hunker down and feed to prep for winter. the occational one you might spot but chances are he's just passing through. don't keep hunting that one spot waiting for him to show, unless you've got cam pics saying he is frequenting that spot or there's does feeding there on a regular basis. does are cautious but if you play the wind right you'll be fine. in late season when the deer are out feeding in fields many times they'll look up a lot more, from the stress of being hunted all season. if they stare at you don't right it off as being busted. don't move and wait them or it out. I had 7 doe staring at me just sunday night within 40 yards, some within 20. after a little while they went back to eating. shoot your bow before you go out in the afternoon with all your gear on and wear an arm sleeve or guard. you'll be bundled up much more making handling your bow a little more cumbersome. I like and hate the late season. I like it because everybody's out of the woods but hate that it's so dang cold.
dbHunterNY
past few years I've ended up going into the late season with an empty freezer and then filling tags. in the same boat this year.

azhuntress
I shot my first deer with a bow 18 years ago in the PA late season. It was Jan 6 and only 17 degrees that morning. Brrrrr! I love the late season because usually there is snow and the woods is usually a lot quieter since either hunters have filled their tags or have just plain given up. I was out tonight (12/11) and saw 8 doe and 1 buck. I didn't get a shot because I climbed the wrong tree and they were too far away. I'll just have to try again tomorrow. NFA-ADK
Successful yes, harvest, no. I have not hunted that many days with the bow 7 or so late season. Last Friday I saw 12 deer and had an easy shot on 2 doe. Passed a 4 point on Tuesday before that. Late season is great if you are dressed properly. This is the second rut! Just wish I could hunt this week instead of the weekend only!
